As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses.

####Q: How do flavors get put on the schedule?
####A: Requests and suggestions from people like YOU!
If there's something you'd like to see, just post a request in this thread. You can request both a specific flavor profile and where it lands on the calendar.
You know, malted & salted caramel might be something to play around with. Never thought of it until just now. Could be good. Looking forward to the malt discussions. New to mixing since my go-to e liquid place went belly up. Still making messy mixes and figuring out what flavors play nice together. Absolutely loving this sub and learning so much from you all.
Isn’t it fun?!
It really is! It's gone straight from "Im gonna make some juice" to rearranging my office to accommodate all the stuff in buying. Things are getting out of hand. Now I'm shopping for malt flavoring....
!!DontPickMe!!
I dream of making a Malta recipe one day. It tastes very much like a sweet Guinness (sorry stout snobs), which I know should be possible, and I think FLV Yakima Hops would work as well as one can hope in a dark fermented beverage, seeing this recipe and DavidN2KL's repeated use of it in his beers. A little bit of root beer or caramel would probably be needed too.
Unfortunately it's not easy to source NF where I'm from, and I can forget about RF Molasses, but I'm not sure it would be needed.
edit: there is also this one that I'm kinda scared of.
Sadly these are all milkshake type malts and not really beer malts. We do have a beer episode down the pipeline somewhere though that should be really interesting!
Maybe i'm the only one, but splitting these flavors into micro units doesn't really make sense to me. Strawberry Custard + Shisha SB + SB-Banana + SB-Kiwi + SB Ripe, etc + another 18 Strawberry sessions later...
Not sure what the goal of this micro-splitting is (whom does it help/serve) but talking about 4 or 6 flavors per show is surely not so very interesting / fun to watch as a direct comparison of 25 or 30 flavors is.
(noone expects you to SFT them all once again, so there's not that much work now, since 85+% of all flavors were already tested and reviewed and rated in previous sessions and we already know which one are shitty and which one are good; you can just put them on a list / mention them in your bad/average/etc rating system and rather talk more about those 5 new flavors or top 8-10 flavors and it would make sense and give lots of good info to those who watch + we'd get through the list of all flavors every 4 years, not once every 15 years).
!!DontPickMe!!
And something Dave and Emily didn't like could easily be something Lynda and I do like. You're getting fresh perspective vs rehashed Old Noted notes.
We've obviously moved away from talking about a lot of brands. And if we don't have to sft stuff again we don't but. Doing recipes and flavors has always been what we do when there just aren't a lot of flavors for the week, and that's fine? Cuz then you get more discussion about application.
Uh Dave is the only one who wouldn't have to retest stuff lolololol I've tested through a lot but definitely not all my strawberrys and having completely new guests, i really hope things stay the way they are cuz honestly it serves us, the ones who DO have to test all 100 still. Or at least 80 of them..... none of us were on episodes 2 years ago
Sam, i need to say this first - i'm not bashing your work; you're doing a marvelousjob and the recent switch turned out better than i hoped. This is my favorite show and i watched all episodes (more than once). I'm trying to present a huge problem here, that might come up later (soon) and you have to be prepared on it.
What i'm talking about is that all this separation is going too far imho becauseinevitably it will result in every flavor coming back only once every 15 years(and this is not exaggeration)
It took 3 full years in previous format to go through and that was when flavorswere hardly ever split; but now we have 15-20 Strawberry weeks (with up to 5flavors in several of these) and we had one Banana week, while now we'll have 6or more banana weeks: Banana Ripe + Banana Strawberry + Banana & Nuts + Banana Nut Bread + Banana Creams + Banana Milks(hakes) + Banana Custards + Banana Candy + Other Bananas... and each one again has only about 5 flavors again. Etc. Also note that now you have recipe weeks coming up every 4-5 weeks (which means another 20% delay for flavors).
Now, this may not seem a problem at this moment since you will cover them all now. That's great. But flavors change and new flavors are popping up all the time and now imagine what flavors we had just 7 years ago in 2015 and what flavors we have now... and now think how many new flavors will be there in next 7 or 15years... it is too long period of time... way too long.
Solutions?
I don't know what they are. I know what i hope for – add a fresh new weekly show for recipes. This would be amazing and it would have huge audience from day 1. It doesn't have to be necessarily the same group if there is a time issue for some; you can have guests and that would again be appreciated in the community. This would also solve the problem of a missing week every 4-5 weeks due to recipes (meaning they come back 20% more frequently; and 20% in long years is a lot) + allow you to focus solely on flavors not recipes (as Noted was meant at the beginning; i won't even mention that newbies would appreciate to have flavors not split in x shows with 5 flavors in each show). All this will allow you to combine more flavors in one show. Ignoring this problem will just delay the unavoidable later and that would be a shame.
A really really big tou-fuckin-ché buddy! Sorry if I'm came off offended i just know, its a bitch to test all 30-60 flavors in a week. And its hard work to try and even get ahead of things. But you're definitely right on the point you make.
Dang companies gotta stop releasing new flavors. We may just have to commit to a bi weekly show lol
You’re right, and that’s why going forward, if someone requests a profile that there’s 100 flavors for, I’m just going to add it to the schedule - not first try to get them to break it down into something smaller.
I just want to butt in to say we discussed this comment at length last night and its a common point of contention - and has been since the inception of the show. While I agree that the big purges are fun, easy to parse, and entertaining - it is very taxing on the crew. We're definitely trying to find that balance. But we do all agree that some breakdowns maybe are a bit too "micro". Thanks for the input
Thx Wayne. It is a hard work, no question about that, just look all the consequences it had on Dave :))
(anyway, thx again to all the crew, the previous one and the current one and to all those wonderful guests; you all are doing a magnificent job for this community)
This will be an interesting show. Love what the Noted crew is doing for the DIY community. Thank you. What awesome flavorings am I missing? It's getting close to order time.
How many malt flavours can there be?
There's a few . . .
FW Malt
NF Malt
VSO Malt
DF Malted Milk
FW Malted Milk
OOO Malted Milk
TFA Malted Milk
What an odd flavor - used in both milkshakes and booze.
