tried to make a vanilla custard, ended up tasting like froot loops.
submitted almost 3 years ago by fudidle

Picking out notes i enjoyed from recipes ive tried i put together my own recipe for a graham crust vanilla custard pie. Ended up tasting like a low sweetener O-rangz from 12m. Not at all what i was after. Ive been flavour hunting for a rich vanilla caramel/graham custard that has a dark smoky note without having unpleasant off notes above 100 watts and with no sucralose. Closest things ive found are dillinger from villain vapors and vct black from ripevapes, both are decent, vct is a bit too sweet, but they both have off notes at high wattage. Ive tried a few 5 star recipes off ATF but havent been happy with any of the results so i tried taking the notes that i did enjoy from those recipes and compiling them into a simple graham vanilla custard and i ended up with diet froot loops. If anyone has any suggestions for juice or recipes id love to be pointed in the right direction because diy has not yielded any enjoyable results so far.

The recipe i created is: TPA - Cheesecake (graham crust) 4% TPA - Graham Cracker (clear) 1.5% TPA - vanilla bean ice cream 2% CAP - vanilla custard v2 4% CAP - vanilla whipped cream 2%

(Edit) I can get cap Vanilla custard V1 if anyone has better recipes with that instead of v2

How long did you allow this to steep before trying? I’ve noticed before when using vanilla custard cap V2, that it takes a longer time to steep than usual. Last one I made using this flavor took every bit of 30 days to steep. Mix doesn’t look bad at all imo, so I’d try a 30-40 day steep with zero nic (add after steep) and see if the flavors mingle better

Ive steeped it 14 days with nic so far, nic to take out the off notes at high wattage.

This is the Vanilla Custard recipe I used to make all the time. It goes back years and I never converted to a weight based recipe. I had slightly tweaked the recipe over the years. From this post 8 years ago. Original post Not sure if these flavors are still available, it was better with the original Cap Vanilla Custard but this rocked as well.

30 ml recipe, I use 48mg 70/30 nic base, premixed 70/30 VG/PG

3.75 ml Nic, target to 6 mg final.

3.6 ml Cap Vanilla Custard V2

1.5 ml homemade vanilla

.3 ml TFA Bavarian Cream

.15 ml TFA Sweet Cream

.15 ml TFA Malted Milk

.15 TFA Graham Cracker

6 18 gauge syringe drops TFA Cinnamon Sugar Cookie

6 18 gauge syringe drops MTS Vape Wizard

Homemade vanilla?

Im wondering what that means also.

I forgot that was in that version of the recipe, it evolved over time. I had a jar of PG and I scraped and soaked many stalks and seeds of vanilla inside it and stored it in a cabinet for a few months. Not really necessary, just something I was trying at the time.

do you have tpa vanilla swirl? i normally sub cap vcv2 with it. cap vcv2 is funky sometimes. i use very little of that if i use it.

I think it's the cheesecake that's giving you a tad bit too much zest that it ends up as fruit loopy. I'd say:

2.5% Cheesecake, 2% graham cracker, 2% vanilla bean ice cream, 3% vanilla custard, 2% vanilla whipped cream.

I can see how graham crust and graham cracker with whipped cream and vanilla bean ice cream could taste like cereal and milk.

Silky is the custard master, just use this recipe here and sub in Shisha Vanilla for the discontinued Holy Vanilla

When I started DIY 7 or 8 years ago I never could get Holy Vanilla locally.

My flavor notes (from other people's notes) say:

  1. Vanilla Cream Extra SC (WF) is as good or better than DIYFS Holy Vanilla.
  2. Vanilla Overload (Gremlin) is the best vanilla bar none. Though DIYFS Holy Vanilla is very similar.

I really like them both, but when I want something a little less "dark" I reach for my favorite vanilla, Shisha Vanilla.

Sir you know your shit. If you have any other creators you reccomend, point me to them. Silkys custards are now my favourite custards.
