I have a bottle of essential depot VG from Amazon laying around, is is safe to vape?
submitted almost 3 years ago by xyz123sike

Hey all, posted this on the vaping Reddit but maybe it’s more suitable here. Just started vaping so still lots to learn. I purchased this bottle of essential depot VG from Amazon a couple years ago to freshen up some dry hookah tobacco, but the bottle is mostly unused. I’m just looking to get huge clouds and read that 100VG is the way to go, I don’t care about flavor and I don’t use nicotine. Can I just vape this stuff straight out of the bottle? It says it is USP grade. Thanks, just want to make sure I don’t try anything dumb. Seen a few posts on here saying the brand is okay but wanted to double check. Can I just top off my tank with it or do I need to rewick before swapping? Currently have some sadboys bakery flavor in my tank.

Here is the bottle https://imgur.com/a/uWDCdj2/

Looking to go down the DIY route and make my own liquids in the future…figured it shouldn’t be too hard since I don’t want any nicotine, but where is a good place to stock up in VG/PG/flavors?

Thanks!

Yes, you can vape VG on its own as long as it is USP grade, which Essential Depot should be.

Check the sidebar for the vendor list, it's hard to recommend specific vendors without knowing where you live.

I mean you can. It's USP so it's safe. However, I believe VG has a shelf life around 3 years.

Also without PG you're going to need to wait for your wicks to suck up the VG

Thank you that’s Good to know…what happens after the shelf like expires…like is it bad to vape it or will it just not produce much vapor? It hasn’t changed color or consistency as far as I can tell, if that makes a difference.

There have been reports of guys that purchased like 5 gallons of VG 4-5 years ago and they say it's still fine.

Keep it in a cool, dark place and try not to contaminate with any bacteria. Smell test is usually a pretty good indicator.

I had a gallon of that exact product and it took me about five years to go through all of it because I got lazy about diy-ing. It was perfectly fine just sitting on a shelf in our hobby room that whole time. You’re good.

Honestly? Probably nothing. There's a chance it could taste off (compared to a brand new bottle) but it's not going to be harmful.

Hey dude just curious on a 80vg 20pg nix - how long would you estimate it takes for the coil to soak up?

I've had old VG taste "soapy" after about a year, but no harm. However it was too unpleasant to vape. I didn't store it well either, so grain of salt.

I specifically bought this brand of VG because it's pharmaceutical grade (USP grade), palm derived, and from sustainable sources.

I vape 99% VG, just adding in 1ml of nicotine to 100ml of VG.

When I rewick, I directly put drops of the VG onto the coil and let it soak through to the middle of the wick until the ends of the wick are soaked, after that the thicker VG has no problems wicking from the tank or atomizer well.

I used to own a vape shop and used this brand for a line of e liquids I had. Good stuff

I just wanted to highlight how shockingly "1998 website design" that bottle label is

Buy and use it all the time, mix it 50/50 with PG.

Essential Depot is good stuff, I use them for all my VG. They often have a special on their website, 2 gallons plus free shipping for just under $80 last time I bought.

I use that brand. Actually had a bottle for 4 years on the shelf and still is fine. Really probably shouldn't have used it, but turned out it was okay. lol
