Would this jar work for long steeping ejuice?
submitted about 3 years ago by that_vapeguy

Hi guys, I want a big steeping Jar to make 1200mL at a time for me, my wife and friends. I want it to steep for long (2 months) it's a rich tobacco recipe that I like to vape after a while and we all love it.

Just saw this jar and they say it's airtight but I don't know if the rubber seal will affect the juice.

Here's a pic

Thanks in advance!

I think that jar would work fine stored in a cool dark place. However it would be a major hassle pouring it without a big funnel. Personally I would use a 64oz amber growler. Much easier to pour from and amber glass keeps out light.

This looks a whole lot better thank you!

All you need really is just a funnel. For each person you’re mixing for leave a little head room in the bottle for the nicotine, shake well

Would store fine just omit the nicotine. I’ve kept mine stored over 1 year no issues and I always store/steep without nic.

This is good advice since he himself, his wife, and friends probably vape different levels of nicotine

Exactly. If he made it 2 mg for example and his friends wanted 6, the nic addition could become complicated. So if he omitted it entirely in favor of adding whatever amount later, he would have unoxidized liquid and complete freedom to add nic or not

Yeah. It’s the same way B&M’s sell their house juice. Before I started mixing only for myself the store would ask me, “how much nic do you want it?”

It varies, 25mg user vs 3mg user. It’s just the best way to accomplish his needs. ~~Personally I’d like to see the recipe~~ oops, he posted the recipe. That looks like a two week steep and done. Two months is excessive

A good friend of mine u/T-a-r-a-x told me he lost a bottle over nine months and vaped it and said it was amazing. I don’t have that kind of patience

I wouldn't use it, the seals are finicky. I tried similar ones for curing something else where humidity matters and they didn't seal well at all. Something about the angle of the lid puts less pressure on one side. You can fiddle with it and make it better but I could never get a good air tight seal.

I don't think the rubber will do any mess. Never tried before.

But can you please share your tobacco recipe? Sound interesting 😀

It's just a simple mix with 10% RY4 Double and 1.5% Butter Pecan FW

I think it would do the job, but there are better options to go for. I personally use jars which offer UV protection, amber/blue Boston or Dropper glass bottles for example. That way the juice, and in particular the nicotine, won't be affected by light. I'm also seeing it perhaps getting a little messy when it comes to transfering the steeped juice to your eventual vape bottle due to this jar not having any type of lip to it.

Do you have an example?

I'm in the UK so only know what's this side of the pond, and go to either ampulla or cwynnejones normally. Both do a variety of different glass wear.

No way would I store anything with nicotine in a wide mouthed jar like that but that's just my opinion.

That looks okay to me but I see several problems getting it out and into your individual juice bottles. Probably the best option I have seen is a Turkey Syringe/butter injector to decant your jar into bottles and add the nic later since you’re mixing for different people including yourself

Hi. Do I see an IKEA Korken? I use them for flour, salt, lentils and everything else in my kitchen. The only problem I see is with pouring because of the attached lid. That could cause problems. Pharmaceutical liquids are usually stored in amber glass bottles, which you can get in various sizes (I‘ve seen them up to 2500 ml in size). I‘d go for something like that in a size that suits your needs. They have airtight caps for them that can withstand chemicals. And like already mentioned by the community, add nic as needed after steeping. It‘s great to hear that you‘ve got your family vaping instead of smoking! Good on you;)).

I could be wrong, but I haven't run across a hermetic/latch lid jar with a rubber seal in a long time, just silicone. I've also seen plenty of folks doing their mixing/steeping in mason jars, which I've personally found to provide a better seal (absent heat to cause the seal to suction the lid in) than generic looks nice on countertop but wasn't functionally meant or sold to seal great hermetic jars. The other amber bottle suggestions are likely much better than both.
