Does anyone put dates on their flavorings bottles?
submitted about 3 years ago by cakeordeath176

and if so how?

I'm going through my flavor stash and for most of them the only purchase dates I have are on my ELR account.

Lately I've been adding little slips of paper with the purchase date to the individual ziploc bags I store each flavor in. I don't want to write on the bottles themselves because my handwriting is nasty and half the time I can't read it after awhile, especially numbers.

I'm wondering if it would be worth it to buy a small date stamp

I don't date my flavours. As long as they are stored out sunlight and not too hot or cold they should be fine. Over a great length of time they may weaken but they don't go bad.

I've got flavorings I bought in 2012. The oldest ones I'm sure of the date on are from 2016.

I have always stored my flavorings in 4ml double ziploc bags stored inside a large, opaque sterilite container.

You DIY and you don't have a label maker? How do you label your mixes?

Painters tape and my god awful handwriting. I don't mix a big variety of recipes so I don't need much in the way of labeling for that. If I had too I can id my mixes just by their smell.

Not on flavourings. But Yes on juice I make, It helps to know how old your mix is 👍 In saying that, old flavourings like 4yrs old have gone dark and flavour has changed quite a bit so I just toss em, and grab some new ones.

How were you storing them? I have a couple bottles I'm mixing from that are that old and they seem fine.

The biggest batch of juice I make is 120 mls. I'm going to vape that long before it's age becomes an issue. More typically I mix 60mls.

I had a few old flavorings that were sweeter bakery flavors that did this over the course of many years. That said, I just finished off a bottle of FA Forest Fruit that must have been pushing 15 years old... Totally fine.

I keep a spreadsheet of flavor purchases that includes the flavor, manufacturer, size, date of purchase, vendor and cost.

When I get an order I started putting the date on the bottle with a sliver of painters tape.

I cook in batches so I setup a folder for my recipes with a date suffix name, then put that on my sticky label. Which has name of recipe, date and pg/vg ratio.

yes I label the flavor and the date, only so I can know when its steeped long enough
