SC/FE CIGAR
Setup: mtl STNG 0.7 Ohm 2.0 ID 28/40 clapton 28.5W
nose: strong chocolate note, no leaf or wrapper or bacco
2% - I been vaping this one on and off for about a month trying to come up with something to say about it. It's got absolutely zero offensiveness to it. It is, however, completely forgettable. Smooth, hints of chocolate, all around darkness just no real tobacco leaf, ash, wrapper, musk or anything I'd associate with a cigar. I'd label this the perfect RY 3. I could see using this as a 'build your own' RY4 flavor, just add your own... well, whatever you want to taste, really.
Suggested percent: Solo I'd say not less than 2% and I'd go at least 3 next time to see if I can push some more distinct notes out of it.
Pairing ideas: I could see pairing this with bakeries in the same way that RY4 is used with cookies and things, like a molasses type flavor. I wouldn't really use this in a straight tobacco blend unless I wanted some less sweet darkness to add to something sharp to soften edges. I might consider a simple mix of, say:
- 2% Cured / 2% SC Cigar
- 2% FLV Virginia / 1.5% SC Cigar
and see if inspiration strikes. Or just use it like an RY4ish note:
- 8% TPA Banana Nut Bread / 1% SC Cigar / 1.5% FA Meringue
and go on about my life.
Second Opinions: Noted Review. Clearly, u/ChemicalBurnVictim saw this as a two flavor banger with TPA RY4x2 around the same percents I was thinking. I would want more tobacco, personally. Which is why this looks like a good use for it: Acid Blondie. Or this one: Alcide's Cigar but I'd up the %'s by about 10-30%
Final Thoughts
It was interesting to try to figure out how to make this work and then dive into what other people said about it. Kinda neat to see that I wasn't off from two mixers I respect. There's potential here to use this flavor in the same way that RY4 is sometimes used as a blank canvas to paint flavors on.
The rest of this is kind of meta all about the SC line in general: In all, the SC flavors haven't really come across as distinctly tobacco-y and I seem to always want to pair them with something bacco forward to add those notes. I keep falling back on the FLV baccos for this for ideas. I've heard that the SC flavors need longer steep times but I think they are quite robust at ~2% after about a week. I think these would do just find with FLV and were I to try them with some of the INW flavors, there would probably be some work to do around the steeping times and the percents using the SC flavors to try to balance them out a bit. My samples that have lasted over a month haven't tasted so significantly stronger for me to rethink that 1% accent/2-2.5 solo ratio wouldn't still work as well after a 21-28 day steep.
Idk they're all kind of blending together now and I'm having a hard time really seeing the differences in them, overall. They're not really very different, maybe more like noticeable differences that may make one more useful than another in some kinds of applications and none of them really standing out so much that they just screamed "use me" in the same way that the FLV line or the INW line has. Not bad at all, just not wildly exciting either. I've finished every single 30mL sample i have mixed (sometimes even 60 plus mixes) except for that havana dry (ick) so they are actually decent, even as a stand alone, so don't take that as a ding on the line. I think they have potential to be used to bend your more familiar (and more tobacco-y flavors) into something refreshingly new if you've found yourself mixing the same old mixes the same old way. Plus, still on clearance on bcf at the time of posting if you want to hit that free ship mark ;)
I've honestly been really surprised to hear about how similar a lot of the SC/ FE tobaccos are! I do actually enjoy a bit of chocolate in my baccos sometimes, but that seems to be a clear, overarching theme with most of these. A bit disappointing, but like you said, these seem like they could be good alongside other baccos for a refresh. Thanks for all the time you put into doing these!
To be fair, they’re actually tasty. I feel like my disappointment over the lack of ‘real’ tobacco taste is making them sound less good than they are. I literally just finished off the last of my Virginia flue cured tester and it was pretty good solo. Cigar is not well named. I think it would be a better ‘me’ version of what I’d typically want out of an ry4 a sweet and complex tobacco base. Which really just isn’t what ry4 is. So I kinda like these, despite me appearing to be smearing them.
