I am frequently disappointed with the taste of many ejuices bc it doesn't seem to taste as great as how some reviewers may hype it up to be.
Mixing my own liquid has made the experience better but I haven't exactly found recipes I would say blow my mind away. It's often been an "oh yeah this is not too bad. I wouldn't mind vaping it all day so technically ig it's an all day vape" experience.
Because I only vape 0 nic, I sometimes wonder, is it the addition of nicotine that makes liquids taste better then they actually are? Similarly to how black coffee doesn't taste great to a lot of people on their first taste but eventually it kind of transforms as we experience it more and the association with a rush from caffeine gets stronger.
Can anyone share their experiences ?
I don’t care what anyone says, nic makes a difference. If a bad juice has a bit higher nic than usual, I’ll finish it. If a good juice has less, I might not. Same with decaf coffee. I can love the taste of a very good cup of decaf, but I may not finish the cup once the last swigs are cold in the bottom of the mug. I’ve always slugged down the cold last glugs of caffeinated coffee.
That said, it took me a while to find recipes I like. Turned out, I just had different tastes than other people and had to make my own recipes to be happy with what I was vaping. After a good while of my own hits and misses, I got good at picking out recipes to try that I might like. And I always try stuff recommended by certain people whose tastes seem to align with mine. I’ve tried a lot of recipes and a fair number of flavors.
Want the results? Do the work.
I see. Nice comparison
As for recipes, I’ve tried many ‘classics’. Some of them are classics for a reason that is obvious. Some are not as clear. What have you tried? What did you used to vape commercially? Which profiles do you seem to enjoy the most? How long since your last cigarette/smoke?
I tried these three bc it seemed like they would be safe bets and in a way they were.

For vaping commercial e liquids I have used freemax mpro 2 with the rba coil head aspire nautilus gt svoemesto kayfun 2013 version and drop 1.5.
I really enjoy food so can't say that I lean toward one profile over the other. baked goods, fruits , and beverages I like them all.
I'd say it's been 3 months since my last smoke. Still have a couple cigars lying around but haven't had much of an urge yet to pick them back up.
I am 0mg and I can say that not having nic does not affect flavour for me. It is most probably either the recipes or your hardware/setup.
Some of it comes down to trying to find recipes that mesh with your palate.
I don't get on with high sweetener juices. Never enjoyed them in a commercial context and that hasn't changed with DIY.
Your hardware also can, and will, play a role in how things present to you. MTL gear/pod systems seldom present nuance, mesh almost always ruins "heavy" creams and bakery flavors, some tanks have absolute shit flavor and with many rebuildables your coil positioning and coil choices make a ton of difference.
What hardware are you using?
I too don't like a lot of sweetener.
As for hardware digiflavor drop 1.5, freemax mpro 2 with the rba coil, digiflavor siren v4, citadel clone, old kayfun light from 2013, aspire nautilus gt and a lost vape q ultra pod.
A little mtl here and dtl there. Coils are usually fused claptons and i do experiment with coil positioning a lot. The first thing I did was try to nail down wicking and coil placement first before really judging flavor.
Do you tend to run a cooler vape or with a bit more heat? Creams and bakeries tend to present more accurately with a hotter vape.
I'd probably make sure your coil placement is optimal for flavor (I'm away from home else I'd check how I set mine up) and see if you can find some recipes that omit sweetener outright that are well regarded and try one or two of those.
I def go through and spend a good 5-10min just adjusting wattage up to find where flavor is lost from too much heat or just turns into an uncomfortable vape and then start to work down to find the lowest wattage where flavor is not lost.
I would love to see your coil placement later if you have the time. I've been watching videos on youtube of a man simulating how vapor travels in an rda with both a mock rda in a box and a computer simulation. Those helped me a lot.
What recipes have you tried?
The three I have made so far are all from diy or die Blood mango - liked this one the most but the orange flavor reminded me of powdered vitamin c packets King custard - really just tasted like cream of corn to me sometimes with graham crackers Quik - most of the time I felt like I was experiencing the powder/chalk like portion of nesquik strawberry. Most of the creaminess and strawberry was in the background for me.
I wonder if I'm just not that sensitive to taste when it comes to e liquids.
you might be Strawberry Mute, hence the Quik flavor not having much strawberry. I loved commercial strawberry liquids but when I started DIY'ing I discovered I'm actually SB-mute + can't taste SB unless there's loads of sweetener in it, which I don't like using.
If you like peach Slurricane is good. There’s a recipe you can find on Google if you look up slurricane clone ejuice recipe. Add some sweetener to it. Personally I don’t like no nic vape juice. It tastes weird and isn’t super good. So you are probably right about the nic making a difference
Thanks for the insight. I'll definitely try out that recipe. It looks simple and good.
Vape Unjuice for a month or two + once you go back to flavored liquids, everything will taste so much brighter + more saturated. You may need to add some sweetener to juices, some people just don't enjoy juice without at least a little sweetener. Also, troubleshooting your hardware like others have suggested is always the best 1st step.
Are you coming off buying commercial juice? Getting off cigarettes?
It took me some time to find recipes I liked. I had just quit smoking and was at first buying Unicorn Milk. I must have mixed 10 different strawberries and cream recipes trying to find something that scratched the Unicorn Milk itch. I finally gave up! To date I have never found or created a strawberries and cream recipe that I really like.
The first recipe I ever liked was dazcole's Lemon Tart: dinner lady remix. I also found some cinnamon bakeries and lemonades I liked. They got me thru until my palate adjusted to non commercial juice. Now I like a variety of mixes.
I have a number of mixers I follow whose recipes I almost always love and I have gotten good at creating my own as well.
Just keep experimenting until you figure it out! And I thought mixing unflavored for a while was an excellent suggestion. If you aren't addicted to nicotine it may be that vaping just isn't for you. Good luck!
