So I'm entering my second month now of not being able to smile or taste anything. What do you make when this happens to you?

So I'm entering my second month of not being able to smell or taste anything. What do you do when this happens to you?

For clarification, I don't have nor did I ever have Corona so it's an allergy/sinus problem. I'm headed to the doctor today to talk to them about it. I can taste when things are overtly sweet, and I can taste the flavor of bitter things like coffee. Menthol heavy flavors seem to be working but I cannot taste whatever else is in there. I can only feel the menthol clearing the congestion if that makes sense.

Unflavored?

Unflavored juice just seems so sad.

Honestly? You get used to it. Plus, the flavor when you come back is bold. Less decisions. Cotton lasts. Lotta upsides.

If you both are suggesting it, I will give it a shot. I guess it would be nice not to have to worry about steep time. Something with cojones kicking levels of mint might be nice too.

Isn't it all unflavored anyways if you can't taste it?

I get the barest hint of sweetener and I can detect menthol when it's in there. If I use something like ws23 I can still feel the sensation of cold. I went through all the bottles of juice I mixed up that I didn't like already. For example, I never could tolerate anything with AP in it. Now all those juices with AP went from being terrible and disgusting to me to having something of a faint taste like a burnt dry cookie. Still really unappealing but just turned way down.

High VG is Actually kinda sweet once you shake off the taste buds overload.

When I can't smile, a blunt usually helps. For tasting, like others have mentioned, menthol flavors generally work.

I like some cactus when I'm sick

When I Want to Taste has been my sickness cure for the last few weeks. After the first 30ml I traded WS-23 for FW Extreme Ice

I just realized I've been making this by accident ever since I started mixing. All my recipes have ws-23 and cactus in them lol

Red Astaire (or a clone of it) would be ideal for this situation.

>Red Astaire

That looks interesting because of the anise and the cooling. Which clone are you making?

This was absolutely disgusting but pickled Japanese ginger (warning again: it's gross!) like the kind that comes with sushi...

Also brushing/scraping my tongue.. and switching up my juices or using menthol (like I usually do desserts or sweets & my bf does fruits or lemonade, usually I just smoke one of his bottles & then go back to mine).

Also drinking a lot of water!

I love that stuff and so does mygf and her parents, we always have to ask for a couple extra bowls when we go to sushi

I know it's meant as a palette cleanser and you don't have to actually swallow it but we all do hehe

Check your tongue too. Thrush is a thing. Just remove most of the whites yellowish stuff. It's build up.

I had thrush and it muted my ability to take things.

Thankfully it's not thrush. I saw the doctor today. She thinks it's my allergies so we're going to start with changing all my allergy meds and see how that goes. They didn't seem too concerned though so I take that as a good sign.

I'm totally a broken record but Unjuice is great, maybe with a bit of menthol or INW Eucalyptus. Also look into oil pulling, coconut oil is my fave to use. I used to have terrible allergies working at an animal hospital all day & oil pulling daily ended up being like a sinus detox for me. It also helps me prevent vapers tongue/ flavor fatigue (I know that's not your issue but it's definitely worth looking into for the allergies).

I definitely am going to look into oil pulling, I've never heard of this. It looks kinda gross but I'm down to try it because not being able to taste sucks. It can't be any worse than the Meyer lemon I just ate as a snack because I was so happy I could taste it a little bit lol. It did remind me of what FE lemon tastes like.

I like eucalyptus as a tea so I'm going to order that INW eucalyptus today. By unjuice do you mean unflavored juice?

Just think of it as natural mouthwash haha, it's weird at first but you'll get used to it. Hopefully it helps your allergy issue, not being able to taste sounds pretty shitty :(

And yes, the Unjuice recipe on ATF is just an unflavored mix. I vaped it for almost 3 months straight when trying to kick sweetener bc I ended up liking it more than anticipated.

I look to go with something menthol. I find it helps with getting better flavor back but, that’s my opinion

FLV Rich Cinnamon at 1% undiluted.

Through covid and the week after I vaped recipes with eucalyptus. I can smell a bit better but still can't taste much. Lemon and mango flavors I could taste but I got sick of those pretty quick.

If this is because of covid, please take 800 mg ibuprofen 3x a day. The loss of taste is caused by inflammation and if you don't get it under control, it could be permanent. If not, ignore me.

Thankfully it is not because of Covid. The doctor is working on it and as part of the treatment they are giving me 600 mg of ibuprofen twice a day. They think it is related to my sinus and allergies so now I take two different allergy pills a day and a nasal spray. It is getting a tiny bit better. I actually was able to smell a very strong Gain air freshener today when I brought it up to my nose. Tomorrow when I go in they should be giving me a referral to go see an allergist finally. Thank you for your comment though, it's appreciated.

Well, it's likely a very similar reasoning. Is the spray a steroidal one? I was given the ibuprofen, cortisone, and steroidal nasal spray (Flonase). Good luck, if you could start to smell today, you're likely (hopefully) on the path to recovery!

Yes it is the generic Flonase nasal spray. It's funny because they have been prescribing this to me on and off for like 3 years and I hate using it. So I have a few brand new boxes if you need them, just let me know. I did finally start using it it but it just kind of grosses me out to spray something in my nose. I hope it is a good sign because not being able to taste food really sucks.
