Best Recipe of 2021! Contest w/PRIZES (+ Link to January Monthly Recipe Thread)
submitted over 3 years ago by isuamadogRenaissance Mixer

To steal a line from one of my favorite people, u/mLnikon...

"What's UP, beautiful people?!?"

Last year I said, "2020 fucking sucked." Was 2021 any better? Sure some of us vaxxed up, some doubled down and dug our heels in, and political chess piece maneuvers were never more transparent showing who the pawns in this game of life really are. Leaving all that behind for now, let's take a moment to enjoy our quiet corner of reddit. Speaking for myself, mixing flavors was a way to stay busy, positive, and connected while the rest of the world went up and down and up again in flames. To hell with that!

This thread is for you to nominate and vote on the "Best Recipe of 2021!" Did you try a recipe that was created/released this past year that blew your mind? Did something unique or revolutionary? Turned a flavor on its head and got your flavor juices flowing? Simply had you in awe? New approach on an old profile? Well, here's the bullhorn for you to shout it to the world.

It is always a great honor for me to write this up and present it for you. If you have been lazy af like me on trying some, check out the 2021 Recipe Roundup and mix 'em if you gottem before the month ends.

Please note, that here we do not nominate our own creations. At the end of each year, we celebrate the best recipe by others that:

  • you found on this site (or on our official Discord)
  • are from 2021 only

Possible entries range from what became your latest ADV or something unique/unusual that you think showed real creativity and blew your mind. PLEASE FOLLOW THE SUBMISSION FORMAT to make it easier for others to follow!

Format:

"Recipe Name" by /u/username

Co. | Flavor | %

---|---|---

A1 | A2 | A3

B1 | B2 | B3

Or use This Handy Dandy ATF Chrome Plug-in and make your life easy. Or just switch to Fancy Pants Editor and let the Reddits do the work for you.

Please include:

(1) Your description of why you love this recipe or why you find it worthy of recognition

(2) Any alterations / substitutions you made to the recipe (ideally none, but if you have tried some different versions of it, note that as well).

Normally the winner (the one who created the recipe) gets a special flair, our undying admiration and bragging rights for the next year. This year we have an additional set of flavors donated by Flavorah and u/TeslaDelMar -- 64 for the winner, 32 for the runner up, and 4 flavors per nominator, in order from highest to lowest votes, until the stash runs out. Conditions: US only (sorry, world) OR winner pays shipping.

Contest mode is enabled; top level posts not meeting submission rules will be deleted. Winner will be announced at the end of the month, when the post will be locked from further comment and contest mode disabled.

My favorite recipe of the year has to be Melon Glazed Donut by /u/Steve-TC.
It was such a weird idea to put CAP Cantaloupe in a Donut recipe but it works so fucking well! What I like most about it is that it's not only great on its own – what makes it a "best of 2021" candidate for me is the fact that the donut base, while it might look very common and old school, simply delivers. I know so many people that started mixing in 2021 and used this base to create their own donut recipes. White Choc Banana Donut, Apple Cinnamon Donut, Raspberry Glazed Donut, Blueberry Vanilla Donut and even Steve´s own adaption The Ultimate Strawberry Donut – they all used the MGD base and were happy with the results which really brings joy to my heart! This is what DIY is all about. Simple, inspiring recipes like this one have such a big value in motivating new mixers to finally stay away from commercial e-liquid. I love it! Thank you Steve!

Thank you, Failyx. Yes, Cantaloop was a weird idea, but sometimes I like being weird.;-)

One more for the road, as it also deserves a nomination.

Even Nick Can Make Custard - I know Nick is very new to reddit, so I sadly forgot his username. But it’s most likely u/renickulous

  • VT Banana Custard 1.5%
  • FA Cream Fresh 1%
  • INW Custard 0.75%
  • FA Custard Premium 1.5%
  • CAP Vanilla Custard 1%

I totally agree with the picked name for this recipe. Nick sure as hell can make a custard. And I sure as hell enjoy vaping it too. The banana, the creamy mouthfeel, the eggyness. Everything just fits so perfectly together, that my taste buds just scream for more of this. I did as you did, Nick, and let it steep for just a day. Was I sceptical? Sure! Was my sceptics put to rest? YES! It’s so damn enjoyable after such a short steep, that I can’t contain myself. Good well goddamn done.

I’m gonna nominate Alphonse by u/wolfwheeler because hit every spot for me!

  • FA Butterscotch 1.75%
  • FLV Milk & Honey 0.5%
  • SSA Milk and Caramel Cream 0.75%
  • VT Pudding Base 1.5%
  • FW Sweetener 0.75%
  • FLV Vanilla Pudding 2.5%

This is high quality thick delicious vanilla and caramel pudding. The mouthfeel is spot on and I love how every single component in this recipe works together, as if they were all meant to be. The FA Butterscotch in general really shows how amazing it is and I believe that this recipe is a good showcase of how great FA Butterscotch really is. My mind is definitely being drawn towards a good pudding based commercial juice, but only a fracture of the cost.

I'm going to nominate Hans Hajime by u/SpiderJRusalem because I usually cannot vape anything that isn't candy/fruit but Hans is just too good to avoid.

  • WF Croissant SC - 2%
  • TPA Dx Peanut Butter - 5%
  • FLV Jammy Berry - 0.5%
  • SSA Peanut Butter - 0.5%
  • OOO Powdered Sugar - 1%
  • VT Raspberry Jam - 3%
  • FLV Starch Base - 0.5%
  • FW Sweetener - 0.75%

I have to nominate Cocoliconut Cream Pie by u/SpiderJRusalem! before this recipe, I was just another ignorant asshole dead set on never ever touching a black liquorice vape, as I'm not a fan of it IRL (being tricked into eating the hardcore dutch stuff as a kid a few times traumatized my tastebuds). This recipe singlehandedly opened that door for me + nudged me into buying 30mls of CAP, FA + WF black liquorices. I left an incredibly detailed review on the recipe page, but the main jist is that it's a totally approachable, deliciously creamy + accurate recipe to what it claims to be. I bought large sizes of all the flavors needed to mix this after I tried a sample from the mixer. I'm obsessed.

  • JF Biscuit 0.75%
  • TPA Cheesecake (graham Crust) 1.5%
  • WF Coconut Custard SC 2.5%
  • WF Cookie Butter SC 0.25%
  • VT Dessicated Coconut 1.5%
  • FLV Marshmallow Vanilla 0.5%
  • WF Salmiak Liquorice (Salty) 3%
  • FLV Sweet Coconut 0.75%
  • WF Whipped Cream (Fresh) 1.5%

+1 for this. I never thought I'd enjoy black licorice anything but I've since bought larger bottles of all the flavors for this recipe.

I‘d like to nominate u/wolfwheeler for being the man who finally put the egg yolk back into the custard!

Shunsui Kyōraku

| Co. | Flavor | % |
|-----|---------------------—————-----|-----|
| FA | Bourbon (Vanilla Bourbon) | 1 |
| FA | Custard Premium | 2.5 |
| WF | Egg Yolk SC | 0.3 |
| SSA | Ice Cream Vanilla | 1.5 |
| PUR | Simply Cake | 2 |
| CNV | Vanilla Pudding | 1.5 |

This is it! Imagine a custard like the one that grandma would make on cold winter days. It’s rich and thick, eggy and creamy, simply delicious. Besides this being the custard I have been longing for, I believe that u/wolfwheeler really deserves this „achievement award“ because he has developed a series of wonderful dessert recipes, thinking outside the box and utilizing flavors such as WF Salmiak Liqourice (salty), VT Fig, DV Absinthe and FA Longan Fresh to name a few, stirring away from the mainstream. Not only have his recipes brought joy to my tastebuds during this hard pandemic year we have endured, but also moments of happiness and bliss. To be fair though, his recipes have also put a dent in my wallet because I‘m always missing one flavor. Thank you u/wolfwheeler.

I'll agree with you. I've noticed u/wolfwheeler has a couple recipes I'd love to try but always missing 1 flavor. This sounds like a recipe I'd love. Thankfully I'm placing an order this weekend. I would vote for this and another one, but wouldn't feel right since I have not tried them. I will rate them on ATF though (& yes, I do rate the recipes I try lol) but thank you for creating them!!

Want a little donut with your icing? Mostly a fruity red glaze with a hint of donut hiding underneath, this recipe will satisfy the most stubborn of sweet tooth.

I’ll follow tes with her Fried Donut Base. It’s not a full recipe but it works as an awesome donut base. Put whatever you want in it

Co. | Flavor | %
---|---|---- WF | Angel Cake | 2.5 OOO | Corn Bread | 1 FW | Hazelnut | 1.5 FA | Zeppola | 3

My reasoning for this is I’ve been chasing a donut all year. But I’ll say you can sub WF Angel Cake with WF White Fluffy Cake and the Zeppola with WF Glazed Donut

I'm going to have to go ahead and nominate Satoru Gojo by u/Wolfwheeler.

This is an excellent recipe with some pretty brilliant flavor bending. Not only is it accurate, but how Wolf built this recipe is impressive.

I personally love Tipsy Pear from u/Failyx.

It was developed for MTL but I like it DL as much as I do it MTL. I think the use of the FLV Pearesto with the boozy notes of VT Light Rum and VT Russian Vodka make this recipe unique.

Sorry for the formatting, this is always a challenge for me!

FLV | Pearesto | 2 %

MB | Shape Up Pear | 3.5 %

FA | Jamaica Special (Rhum) | 0.5 %

VT | Light Rum | 3 %

VT | Russian Vodka | 1 %

FLV | Sour Apple | 1 %

Looks like 2021 was the year of the wolf.

I am going to nominate u/wolfwheeler's:

GOURD IS DEAD

The Pumpkin Spiced Old-Fashioned

VT & FLV Bourbon to give the deep, oaky flavors. VT Golden Syrup as the cooked-sugar syrup. FLV Back Bar Bitter & VT Chocolate Mousse to recreate a bitters I use at my bar called Xocolatl Mole Bitters FLV Pumpkin Spice because.

| % | Vendor | Flavor | |---|--------|--------| |0.5|FLV|Back Bar Bitters| |2|VT|Bourbon| |1|FLV|Bourbon| |0.75|VT|Chocolate Mousse| |0.5|VT|Golden Syrup| |1.25|FLV|Pumpkin Spice| |0.5|FW|Sweetener|

This recipe is hands down the best thing I tried in 2021. I am not sure how to describe the experience which is kind of unique. i'll keep it short: The way that the pumpkin spice gave off the pumpkin feeling without the actual pumpkin, the wonderful balance of the boozes, and the chocolate bitters is actually, truly a wonderful sensory experience. I found myself shaking my head after every pull in awe of what I was tasting and how well it all played together, how unique the combination was and how wonderfully the recipe was put together. Also, kinda got some extra points for a great name.

For all the unlucky which can not tolerate PG I tried a surprisingly nice VG only recipe. Using only RF VG flavors.

Raspberry SteveCake by u/cloudJR.

I am not biased by the name😉 , but I was impressed by the fact how much flavor I could taste with VG only.

RF | Cheesecake | 3 %

RF | Cream | 1.5 %

RF | Graham Cracker | 0.5 %

RF | Marshmallow | 0.5 %

RF | Raspberry | 3.5 %

RF | Strawberry | 1.5 %

If there would be a category for best PG free recipe I am sure this would be the winner.

And if he’s winning, I am sure he would be keen on the PG free Flavorah flavors…

Vendor | Flavor | % :-|:-|-: INW | Biscuit | 1 FW | Graham Cracker | 2 FA | Vanilla Cookie | 3

This is just a WOW! simple recipe. It's not my ADV, yet, but I've mixed a few bottles of this now.

I never made any alterations: it's good the way it is. Some people suggest adding 1% FW Sweetener, but I'm not a sweetener kind of guy.

The person who shared this recipe with me and the creator say it is a SNV, but I found it better with a at least a 3 day steep (7 days certainly won't hurt).

Right-o, im not gonna snv this like it’s a fruit mix lol.

Made my own spin alongside this OG, JF biscuit, TFA Graham Cracker Clear and FA Vanilla Cookie (same 123 %)

My house will smell like a bakery soon!
