A bunch of random questions from an mixer stuck in the past…
submitted almost 4 years ago by KILOCHARLIES

I’ve been mixing for over 7 years but don’t keep on top of the latest coming and goings and would be grateful for any advice from knowledgeable folk.

  1. I still mix with freebase 72mg. My supply is running low. Are salts the standard these days? I tried when they were first released, didn’t like the lack of throat hit but a scored a 10ml recently and was shocked how nice the head hit was from it.

  2. I DTL 3mg at night and MTL 15mg in the day. All 70/30. I see most people these days are using far less nic, down to 0.5mg. Why is this please? I started at 36mg so I already thought I was a low nic user.

  3. For flavourings I exclusively use Chefs Flavours in the UK, mainly because the last time I did research years ago, these were widely regarded as the best outfit out there. I adv ry-whore and never bore of it, and then have 30-40 of their other mixes for occasional use, but feel I am missing out with all the different companies that are out there. Is there a substantial upgrade to other companies these days? I buy premixed flavours from them but it works out as £5 per 100ml. Some other brands I’ve looked at are 5x the price. Are they worth it, and are there any other sweet ry4 flavours that are unmissable?

  4. What is the general consensus for vaping old juices? I have unmixed flavours that are 5+ years old and still look as good as new, plus mixed stuff at 3mg that is just as old. Those are very dark now and taste fine but are very different than when mixed fresh. Are they advisable to still vape?

  5. I’ve been pretty much living in a box for the last 5 years. None of my friends vape but I enjoy it very much. Have there been any game changing evolution things in this time period that I am likely unaware of? Years ago I use to wick with an SS mesh and I still remember how smooth and tasty that was, yet everything is cotton these days but I somehow feel I’m way behind current trends.

Thanks for any advice you can provide. I’d love to be active as most of you are but I can’t find the time and feel I am missing out due to it. If you have any further thoughts, please let me know.

Far as freebase vs salt, I think high nic vapers primarily use salts. Tho many of us low nic vapers still use freebase. I don’t think there’s a standard. Some even mix a combo of the two. I’ve done that for ex smokers who need high nic but not all the hit that comes with that. Seems to bode well.

Nic levels, ppl are all over the map with this. Due to the popularity of low wattage pod devices I see ppl using way higher nic than they did when I started. Personally I use 0 nic at night and .5 during the day and vape DTL at like 100+ watts. I could probably just go without it but I like the way it makes juice taste and feel. So 🤷🏻‍♀️ why ppl are using less nic, it could perhaps have to do with how much harder it is to get nic now. In canada we have a 20 mg cap. US has the pact act etc etc. This may have caused some to think about cutting down to preserve supply but just a guess.

There are several newer and notable flavour houses incl chef’s recently released line of concentrates which are really good from the ones I’ve tried! I’d suggest checking out newer episodes of noted for more info there. Can’t advise on bacco flavours tho.

Flavourings if stored properly, should be fine, smell em and do a little tester. With mixed juice, I’d probably toss but that’s just me. I find old juice gets watery. Idk why.

Far as advances in hardware, yah I’d say there’s been quite a bit. Pods mainly (personally not a fan). Smaller RDA’s, more durable mods that don’t cry the first time you drop them lol and mesh-as coils. Not for wicks. (personally I’m a huge fan of ni80 mesh) Important point I guess, newer hardware really packs a punch for flavour which means that older recipes don’t work so well on newer devices.

Edit. Typos.

Nic is a matter of personal preference. Some people vape with the end goal of quiting in mind. Personally I vape to keep off cigarettes.

I had no intentions of quiting those till I started vaping in May and just quit cold turkey in May with 3 and a half cartons still sitting in a drawer.

Now I have no intentions on giving up nic or vaping, but who knows what life has in store.

I actually fluctuate between 7 and 10mg nic salts. I do use a pod device and have, to this point, never used an RDA. That said I have a couple Nano wasps sitting here calling to me lol.

You'll hear a lot of talk of low Nic and no sweetener but vaping is all about personal preference so you do you.

There are lots of recipe sites out there
