You may be missing sweetener.

Hi. Judging from the flavor brands you are using, I‘m assuming you chose old recipes (2015-2017) with ratings. And that would be the problem. Those older recipes were fine at the time and worked with the hardware that was available. Today‘s hardware is improved and mods are much more powerful. Older recipes (high flavor percentages) do not translate well to today‘s hardware. They taste muted, caused by overflavoring, which you are most likely experiencing. The easiest way to help you would be for you to join our Discord. I‘m pretty sure that the recipes and flavors you are using (perhaps even hardware) are the issue.

I've been struggling with this for years. Couldn't find an answer. But found that lower flavour percentage is better than higher in most cases

Hi, first of all i wanna ask you. How well do you shake your juice after putting all the flavors nic and pgvg in?

Shaking/mixing is a very important step to diy.

Do you leave enough room to shake? Or do you make liquids till the bottle is full?

Leaving room to shake the liquid makes sure u can shake it well. I use a 120ml unicorn bottle and when i make liquids i only fill 100ml of it. 20ml of room.

How well do you shake it? Shake till you have micro bubbles? Till you cant see through it no more? Or shake till you still have large bubbles?

When shaking liquids i make sure i shake till i cant see through no more. A great workout!

How long do you let it breathe for? The longer you let it breathe the more it will lose flavor.

When i breathe my liquids i shake them very well, and leave the cap off before i head to bed. Ive read online breathing should only be max 12hours.

And for the last part, steeping. Higher vg requires more steeping than pg, since pg carries the flavor better. The kinds of aromas you use will also effect the steeping, creams takes longer than fruits and so does tobacco.

In e-liquid-recipes if you scroll down a little of the recipe you desire to make, often they will put a note in for how long you have to steep it. And the pg/vg ratio they use. Tweaking the pv/vg ratio might require more steeping.

Lets say recipe use 50/50pgvg but you want 30/70pgvg since it has more vg it should require more steeping than the note tells you.

I hope this helps

Good luck!

I found that old recipes are not good for today’s tanks and RDAs. Follow Rugly and you will not regret it

I second the sweetener rec. I use 0.5-1% Cap Super Sweet in virtually all my mixes.

Other causes of muted flavor:

too much flavor concentrate (over 15% total more or less, depends on the conc.) I try to keep it under 12%

too many different flavors in one mix (leave this for the mixing gurus) -6 flavors max for most mixes

Combining flavors that cancel each other out- I can't think of any specifically, but I've noticed certain combos don't play that well together

Flavor muteness- ie: lotsa people can't taste strawberry or taste is very muted -I personally taste dirty socks with many of the custards & creams. Fruits tend to fade. When combined with custards, which generally need a longer steep, the fruit note might recede by the time it's ready
