Hi, apologies for the long post, skip to the final paragraph for the actual question.
I've realised that there's simply no way I'm ever going to own all the flavors or versions of a flavor to mix some recipes I'd love to. I have over a hundred flavors and additives now, but and I know that pales into significance for a lot of mixers, but I really don't want to be buying a single flavor for a one-off recipe. If flavors were as cheap and as accessible as they seem to be to varying degrees depending on where you live in the US or Canada, it wouldn't be an issue, but it's just not the case here in Galway, Ireland. I won't bitch about Brexit again, but customs and VAT following it have left Nom-Nomz the only specialist flavor vendor available to me. And because An Post (our national postal service) don't seem to understand the difference between a nicotine-free e-liquid flavor (I've had orders returned with no reason given to me or the vendor) you have to order via DHL, which is about $25 for orders under £100 ($135.) Not cheap.
Another problem I've encountered is that a lot of newer flavors, especially from WF (which I own a bunch of) don't have reviews on the master flavor list. And I totally get that, I certainly wouldn't have the time or patience even if I had a discerning enough palette to do a single flavor review. Even if I did, it would be pretty useless, I can't pick out accents, top notes, off notes etc. I'm not even sure whether or not I'm a black pepper taster or not (I think I am after using TPA VBIC, but it's not that pronounced) so any review would be like - "Yeah, I'm kinda digging this one, tastes nice" or "OMG, this is disgusting!" So, not very help
Anyway, finally to my question, how do I know if I can sub, say FW Brown Sugar for TPA's version and countless variations of this dilemma. Trust me, I have created a spreadsheet containing all my flavors, copied flavor notes and links to reviews and done as much searching for answers as I can, but with little luck. Is it considered acceptable to dm a mixer you follow, especially high-profile ones like the amazing u/EdibleMalfunction and u/ID10-T to ask for their opinion or is it just best to post a question about the subbing of various flavors in this sub?
I don't want to annoy anyone either by asking questions that have been asked like a 1000 times, but, as I said, these answers (for certain flavors anyway) have proved to be impossible to find on Reddit. I use ATF and ELR as well, and DiyOrDie. Even Bull City Flavors often has reviews I can't find anywhere else, but when it comes to expert opinion and subbing, that's more of a question for a seasoned mixer. I'm also well aware that two near identical flavor names from different vendors can be worlds apart, thus making or breaking a recipe.
Apologies again for such a long post.
Any suggestions at all would be welcome. Thank you!
Same as u/ID10-T. Though I may not be around as much, I keep an eye out. Send me a DM here and I'll get the notification.
Subbing is a tricky game. Most flavors with the same name are not going to work as a substitute and will change the recipe. There are a handful of exceptions.
My digital door is always open, though it might sometimes take me a bit to get around to answering it
Just getting into this, placed my first order from perfect vape for a 1 gal jug of nicotine that's already been mixed with 30/70 pg/vg. Its strength is 3mg.
Being that it is already mixed, I now just add the flavors right?
I thought I was just getting a nicotine base, and was going to have to mix it myself.
That's what you ideally should have done, that is, ordered a higher strength nicotine base. That premixed will work, you just can't control the nicotine strength or PG and VG ratio.
I figured! Luckily, I'm down to 3mg-0mg regularly. So just adding a bit of flavoring shouldn't offset the ratios too much I suppose?
Not exactley a newbie, been mixing for about 2 years, but i took a break cause i just didnt have the time. But man have things changed. Where do you get tfa, cap and nic now? Nic river out of business? Do i have to go through liquid barn only? Im in the north east so theres pmta and all that mess too.
Most of the same vendors are still available. Bull City, Flavor Jungle (formerly Ecig Express), Diyvs, Wizard Labs. I listed those in order of preference. River Supply switch to B2B only. Nicotine is a complicated matter now. Besides Carolina Xtracts, there are only a handful of lesser known nicotine vendors. Nicotine Giant, Nicbase, Central Vapor are some of the others. PMTA doesn't apply to DIY components.
Anyone know where I can buy FLV Wild Melon and FLV Watermelon right now? I've seen watermelon I think a few places but no wild, and they won't sell to retail on their site.
Anywhere I can still buy nic salts?
Central Vapors, Nicotine Giant, NicBase
Hi,
Okay so in a panic and worried about what's to come with the FDA, I purchased my first ever Nic order, following the excellent guides on the side bar, 100mg in PG, 1 liter. When it arrives, can I put it as is straight into the freezer until I figure out flavors? Or should I break it down first, then freezer? Any suggested recepticles, as I think amber glass is best from what I've read. sorry for all the questions, taking a crash course in all this as vaping helped me kick my PAD 20 year habit.
Thanks so much for the help
Breaking up into smaller amber glass is best for long term storage, yes
