Flavor Reviews #3 - Ft. River ( Let's hope it returns to mass public someday! )
submitted about 4 years ago by Ronaldo1024

Morning DIYers! I came in with another decently large review, from River! I intended to drop this one around April-May when you could at least still buy from them on their last day of their liquidation, but mail hell did not helped. I have faith we'll get better times and you can buy it again in a future though!

Still dropping these flavors, because it's the few River Flavors I haven't found any previous review at all. Let's hope it can be handy in a future.

Specs:

Mod: SOB Styled mech mod, 18650 hybrid tube.RTA: Vandy Vape Kylin Mini V2

Coil (Average): SS 316L 26GA, 5 loops, 3.0mm. Aprox. 0.6 ohms. Between 27W and 20W.

All flavors are at a 70% VG 30% PG ratio.

Flavor #10: River Cola Freeze, 8%. Tested at 17W.

Steeped for 11 weeks, it totally lost the flavor. Feels a tiny little bit bitter, but nothing more. No cola, no freeze, just a slight "smoked" like flavor with a very weak Wintergreen-like mint. Almost like a slight burnt coil. Double checked. 0/10 Cola, 0/10 freeze, 3/10 smoked flavor.

Steeped for 1 week (7 days exact), the smoked, burnt flavor is actually River's approach to the carbonated part of the cola. VERY different from the Lemon Lime Soda approach of the, well, soda part which it actually feels like a soda. On the inhale, and slightly on the aftertaste you feel a "fresh" tone, like a little mint easier to feel. It smells, BUT DOES NOT TASTE to a Pepsi, closest Cola I could get it close to. On DL/RTL with lots of air, the minty fresh is more predominant. On MTL, it feels more the Pepsi+Red Cola flavor. 5/10 Cola, 2.5/10 Mint, the "Freeze", 1.5/10 Smoked flavor, the carbonated part.

Flavor #11: River Blackberry, 8%. Tested around 16W.

Steeped for 11 weeks... there is a really faint and little blackberry you really need to take a big effort on tasting it. Theres a long aftertaste though, half natural, half artificial candy. 2/10 Blackberry, 1/10 Candy.

Steeped for 1 week (7 days exact), the blackberry is still really and quiet but easier to notice. It's a tiny bit less natural and feels more like a candy as well. Interestingly, the sweet part clings more on the throat than on the tongue. Not exactly a throat hit, but it's a unique touch. 4.5/10 Blackberry, 2/10 artificial Candy.

Flavor #11: River Marshmallow Crisp, 8%. Tested at 15W.

Steeped for 11 weeks, really good taste to cereal. Specifically Frosted Flakes, with maybe not too much sugar, but it's easily felt. Plenty of milk taste too. 3/10 Corn Flakes, 2/10 Frosted Flakes, 5/10 Milk, 0.5/10 Butter

Steeped for 8 days, the cereal part its a bit more notorious. Milk is still strong. Both cases the aftertaste is not as long as when steeped for longer. The cereal is a bit higher on DL or high airflow, while the milk gets stronger on MTL.

Flavor #12: River Cookie Snaps, 8%. Tested at 22W.

Steeped for 11 weeks, the flavor is very faint. Closest I could resemble it is to a very slight, slightly overcooked cake. The flavor profile is a bit tricky but after a while, it could also taste to the cake part that got stuck on the oven mold. A bit dry but not exactly crunchy. Flavor at first hit can go from 2.5/10 overcooked cake to 8/10 baked crust stuck on mold, specially on subsequent puffs.

Steeped for 13 days, the flavor is closer to a cookie than a cake, mostly because you can feel the cake ingredients easier by separate, rather than one, homogenous cake flavor with longer steeping. Still a bit overcooked for the crunchy-like flavor. 6/10 cake, 4/10 milk, 1.5/10 butter.

Flavor #13: River Spearmint, 8%. (NOTE! I screwed a bit the 8 days model, it's closer to 60% VG 40% PG)

Steeped for 11 weeks, it's the best Colgate toothpaste flavor you can get. Not too harsh, not too smooth, but still noticeable. Tiny little toothpaste bitterness, and an even smaller, almost non existant throat hit. Doesn't itches like a WS-23 though. 1.5/10 Throat Hit, 0.5/10 bitterness, 5.5/10 mint. 10/10 Whiter Teeth!

Steeped for 8 days (slightly higher PG), there's not a big change, except the mint a bit harder, and a tiny higher throat hit too, that sticks and lingers a bit more on the throat too. Tiny bit more intense flavor but again not a big change. Still no throat hit. Mostly. 6/10 Mint, 0.5/10 bitter, 3/10 throat hit + slight mouth hit. 12/10 whiter teeth with 12 hour protection.

Flavor #14: River Cinnamon Roll, 8%.

Steeped for 11 weeks, you'll definitively feel the cinnamon on the very first hit. It goes more moderate and easier on following hits, and has a pleasant aftertaste that lingers for a few seconds.. Has a side flavor of a nice cake, slightly well done/overcooked (not as cookie snap), but definitively no raw cake. I'll rate the cinnamon around 7.5 - 4 - 6 / 10 (First hit - following hits - aftertaste), along with a 4/10 cake. With traces of semi dry milk.

Steeped for 14 days, the cinnamon feels a tiny bit more, more "wet" smooth, and less cake. Aftertaste is gone in a second or less. Still present but not as long. Cinnamon here goes 8.5 - 5 - 4 / 10 and 3.5/10 on cake.

That's all I got for river for now! Hopefully it'll cover some missing flavors I didn't saw before. And again let's cross fingers htey'll be open to the public again. Stay safe all!

"RS Spearmint = 10/10 whiter teeth!" haha

awesome that you're diving right into note taking! they can be tricky at first but it seems like your notes are improving with each consecutive post :) keep at it!

not that anyone asked, but the only suggestion I have for you would be that it may be beneficial to test your flavors at different intervals than 1 week + 11 weeks. certain flavors (usually common w some fruits) are known to fade as time goes on, as your notes seem to indicate. most of the time when testing new flavors or even recipes, it's common practice to test 2-3+ times during that first week, if you have the time for it, for example: as a SNV (shake n vape) or on Day 1, Day 3 + Day 7; you can also do tests again if you want to around Days 14-28 for long steepers such as bakeries/ custards/ complex flavors/ some tobaccos. Doing it in this manner gives users a great chance to really see how the flavors develop + change over time.

You're doing great + no need to take my advice, everyone does things differently! thank you for taking the time to submit your flavor note contributions!
