Police and DIY, so misunderstood, but I didn't get arrested.
submitted about 4 years ago by Jessicalynfox

When the cops show up and you're mixing...

So there was a knock on my door. Of course you get panicky when the police are there so I am sure they thought I was acting a but suspicious. They were trying to find my neighbor who has a bench warrant for not showing up for probation. I know why he hadn't shown of course, that pesky drug screen they do. I didn't know where he was so I had nothing to tell them. On the coffee table in my living room I had brown amber glass jars and I bunch of 15ml bottles... oh and I had needles, blunt tip of course. I always add nic with syringes. I had the scale out to cause I was mixing some and adding nic to steeped mixes. They just kept staring behind me then at me. At first I didn't know why they were looking at me funny. I looked behind me thinking oh hell is the neighbor at my house visiting my husband and standing behind me. Then it dawned on me. They thought it was drugs. In the end one of the police men found what I was doing quite interesting, the other I still think has no clue what vaping even is. He was looking it up on his phone. I didn't get arrested on drug charges though so all is good there. They may watch my house a little closer now.

Why did you even let them into your house? When the cops show up at my place, I disarm and go out on the porch to talk.

I had teenagers on a day trip driving to a spot 2.5 hours away.tp hike. Your heart stops when they knock and your kids are out.

Me telling them to be careful and isn't me being overbearing, it's me begging them to be okay.

Yep, or don't even open the door. Unless they have a warrant for you, you don't have to open or even talk to them.

I know it sounds extreme but opening the door, can be an invitation or they pin open your door with their foot any attempts to close they door they can interpret as assault, so your better of talking to them thru the door, asking if they have a warrant for you, and if not, tell them to kick rocks.

This happened to me.... Tampa 2016 the day before I went to Colorado with my dad, my mom drove him to my apt as I was depressed and emotional and the reason to go to Colorado was bc my father is understanding and knows what weed is so we went for us to have a break. I wanted her to come up to my apt and for some reason I wouldn’t go downstairs so I cried and wouldn’t go downstairs the cops came I refused to open the door for crying. Eventually my dad opened the door against my wishes and the cops punched him in the ribs (57 years old) bruised the shit out of him. Cut my foot open with his boot stomping me. Arrested me and took me to the car. On the way to the car realized he cut my foot open and they decided to ror me on the spot to not hear or get shit from their superior. Case was dropped. You may think there were things I left out but I cried they came I ignored told them to leave I was just crying and after ten mins of being persistent my father opened they hit him I went to help him up and they stomped my foot and arrested me. I’d have to look online to see what the charge was. It was not disturbing the peace or noise ordinance or anything . Also this was a luxury apartment building where nfl players for the Bucs lived including Donovan smith and Kwon Alexander and some lesser known players.

You disarm the cops and take them on the porch?

Wait, you walk around your house armed? Why's that? Serious question. From a non-gun worshipping culture guy.

I'm not a gun worshipping guy either. Do you have money? Do you carry it? Does that make you a money worshipper? Of course it doesn't.

Yeah, should have worded that differently. But it's still a serious question.

When I carried concealed there wasn’t anywhere I didn’t wear it because it’s that comfy hell my pants didn’t fit right without it. Fortunately with these gun nuts is we grow out of it. Yes I was beat by cops Snd they were relieved of their jobs afterwords and I was told to get it for my safety. The one time I almost used my gun I would of been really upset when this drunk neighbor broke in my slider bc it was unlocked and I pulled the gun then thought better and I left her in the home and called the police bc she didn’t need to be shot

Who the fuck sits around the house strapped with weapons? Do you really think people are going jump you moving from the toilet to the laundry room or crooks dropping in from the roof to get the jump in you?

Plenty of people do, first of all. But you're also assuming a lot there. I didn't specifically say I'm strapped at home. When there's a knock at my door at night, and I'm not expecting company, I bring something, anything with me that can be used as a weapon. Sometimes it's a Glock, sometimes it's a simple drinking glass. Home invaders aren't going to politely wait for you to retrieve a firearm from your bedroom safe. Home invasions happen in my area, and I have a 22-yr man child nearby who is not only a criminal, prone to violent outbursts, but also has an inflated sense of his own "street cred" and tries to associate with criminals much harder than he. I don't know who the hell is knocking at my door at night looking for me, or looking for him, but I'm not taking any chances with the lives of my family. Now this is gonna blow your mind, too: My security cameras record 24/7. I don't just turn them on when something bad goes down. It's no different. There are layers to security.

Never talk to the police, nothing good can come of it. Their job is to find, or "find" anything they can charge you with, and escalate using the only tool they have (violence) until you submit and obey their often illegal and unconstitutional demands. Just politely decline to answer and questions, or answer factually while providing no value to them. Don't make their ignorance your problem, don't entertain or enable their fishing expeditions, they will always "find" something if they want to.

"I prefer not to answer any questions. Am I being detained or am I free to go?"

"I'm going North. Am I being detained or am I free to go?"

"Why did you stop me? Here are my papers."

This is bad advice in a lot of situations. If the cop feels like it they can just detain you for a set amount of time without filing charges then let you go.

I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone's mom, sister, etc. Think Mayberry only modern. There was no.point to not talk to them.

It’s saved me a few times man not saying you should start off that way but if they start asking dumb questions or being disrespectful I think it’s your best call. Has saved me a few times after telling them I’m going to be silent was let go after about ten minutes both times.

Had a similar situation myself about 5 years ago. Was mixing on my wet bar and my living room sliding door blinds were wide open so I was visible to my backyard and parking lot. Someone walking their dog saw me and called the cops. They knocked, I answered and they said they got a report of me measuring something. First thing I think is a ruler or measuring tape so I was super confused. They asked to come in and I had nothing to hide so I showed them where I was and what I was doing. One of the cops knew what it was and the other didn't. They smelled my juices from the bottles and the knowledgeable one called it ok. A scan around the house and they left. I thought it was funny and an invasion of privacy at the same time by my neighbors snooping. And before anyone says it, I know my rights and been in situations before regarding the 4th amendment and if they can't break something like my center console and I'm not hiding anything it's always been faster and smoother not exercising my rights. The funny thing about it too is that after I finished mixing my first batch I quickly shook it and dripped in my RTA, while taking a huge drag, chest expanding, head rising, I caught a glimpse of the lady walking her dog staring at me. Putting my head down on the table in full satisfaction of my creation and a nice hit with huge clouds prob freaked her out and didn't help my case lol

Ha. I was vaping at a park a few years back and a mom and kid were there. Mom was just all out of sorts because I was smoking my drugs in public. Lol. I wasn't even vaping nic. I was upwind from her child and away from anyone else. I blew a cloud in her face when she confronted me and yelled for my 8 year old to come on so.we could leave. Lol.

Just FYI, blowing smoke (prob. vape) into a person's face intentionally can be construed as battery and you can be charged as such. There is legal precedence on this issue. Obviously, there is a difference between smoking and the person walking into the smoke versus blowing it in their face, but I would caution against doing so in the future in light of camera phones; you could find yourself in a lot of unwanted trouble. I completely understand the frustration regarding all of the misinformation surrounding vaping, but it's better to simply ignore it and walk away than to find yourself at the center of a court case.

If you'd have seen how she was acting you would understand. She practically wanted to fight me over it. I am typically a very respectful person with it. She was screaming at me all the while she was smoking cigarettes at the park not 10 foot from where the kids were playing herself. She thought because I was vaping it had to be marijuana and I had tried to walk away from her for about 2 minutes and had enough because she kept following.

Funny story. I always feel a little like a mad scientist when I am concocting my DIY juices. From now on it will feel a bit illicit, too.

lol
