Heat wave destroyed my mixes?
submitted about 4 years ago by Competitive-Candy-82

Hi, we just went through that massive heat wave in BC, Canada. And all the bottles we had steeping during that time now barely have any flavour when vaping. Strong smell (smells normal), but we tried in 3 different tanks and nothing...our house was 35+C for a week straight (96F) in the rooms that we had struggling to provide AC, even hotter in the other rooms (which unfortunately our vape stuff is in one of those hotter rooms) We have another bunch of bottles steeping now, but nothing that will be ready for a while 😭 Any way to save these? Or did we lose that whole batch (a mix of fruity, candy, and creamy flavours if that helps) these are mixes we have done before with success

I am strongly tempted to say it must be something besides the heat.

I live in Mexico, and have been mixing for 4 years now. The temperatures you described are our usual late spring conditions every year, from early May to mid-June (if there is a heat wave, it raises over 40°, otherwise it stays in the high 30s). My apartment is quite warm and we have no AC.

I haven't seen what you describe this far, and I keep all my juice room temperature. Which is slightly warm tot he touch during the hottest days.

Well idk why you don't have any flavor I keep my juice in my room and we went through a heat wave with no ac and my juices are just fine that's weird tbh but I would say try shaking them up and down and side to side it might be that your flavors have just separated that happens sometimes and usually shaking it helps

Yeah, we've shaken them, tried them over and over in different mods and tanks, etc and all no flavour...grabbed one that I had mixed after, although I should let it steep a bit more, it tastes as it should...several bottles of different mixes that have been done previously with success and all of them tasteless, I can see user error in 1, maybe 2 but all of them?...kinda baffles me as to why, the only difference between that batch and the rest we did was the heat wave so it made me wonder

Nicotine it's not the only compound that's sensitive to heat (also humidity if you had that too like we did here in ON). The chemicals in the vape liquid responsible for the flavours you expect can be and probably are sensitive to degradation by heat/light/humidity, and the heatwave probably accelerated that.

It's best to store all things vape related (as in your mod/batteries/pod vape and your juices) somewhere cool and dark where the temp fluctuation is minimal and It's hopefully not too humid but easier said than done with these fucking heatwaves...

Sorry to hear your dealing with that, they have been pretty brutal in southern Ontario too. Feels like 38-40 or more Celsius (100.5-104 for the Americans) for weeks then drops down to below seasonal for a little, rinse and repeat. It's messed up.

I'd be careful if I were you with the ruined batchs, if it is chemical degradation who knows what chemicals have formed and if they're toxic/safe to vape..

The flavouring could have evaporated - especially seeing as it was still steeping (flavour not evenly mixed in yet)

Heat can also cause your nicotine to oxidize quicker than normal, so if you're going to vape them, vape them now, oxidized nicotine is pretty much unvapable

I have been experimenting with cold steeping, try it with a mix you already know and love. Mix and throw that mix in the fridge and leave it to steep. It will take longer but the flavour will be better. Try it and let me know.

Nothing wrong with anything I've made in the past month or so. Granted my mixing/storage room are in the AC when I am, but they're most definitely not when I'm not at home.

The thing that denatures alotta juice is UV/sunlight from what I understand.

Although not the same, in Indonesia room temperature without an A.C is around 35 degrees. I've never experienced a loss of flavor or degradation etc due to the high room temperature, is it possible that something else has gone wrong?

Try steeping them longer and see. Fingers crossed.
