isuamadog, Fieldy & Kitty’s MEGA MONSTER RECIPE REVIEWS of 2021
submitted about 4 years ago by Kittybit8I found my thrill on ID10-T’s hill

It has been little over six months ago since we did the last mega recipe review.

Plan was to do this by end of the year, but with a still on-going pandemic spreading and all the nonsense in US concerning vaping, the mixing community has been more busy than ever.

Whether you've been under tight social restrictions, tossed your hard-earned money on the AMC-stock yelling ooga-booga while doing so, or just decided that you want to mix in a bathtub and call yourself Apex. Then you have been mixing.

So here's a "short" list of mixes that we've tried during 2021 thus far.

Rules still apply from last round: No famous mixers. So you won't find recipes by your ID10-T's, your Wayne's or your 100% loveable huggybear EdibleMalfunction's on this list.

What you will find are recipes made by your every day normal people, with the one goal from us to spread awareness about mixes and mixers, that you might not have stumbled upon otherwise. Who knows, maybe recipe of the year could be hiding here.

Reviews will come in order of 3 reviews per reviewer and links to recipes will be provided in each review and following as such:

Chocolate Cheesecake by Bigbarry (Steeped 3 days)

https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/224335

Review:

After spending a few days with this recipe, I’m happy to say that I only bumped into a couple of minor issues with this recipe.

I’ll be honest with you though. Of the three recipes I decided to review, this was the one I was fearing the most, due to the chocolate.

So let’s get the issues out of the way first.

I absolutely love CAP Sugar Cookie. It’s one of the flavors that I typically buy 100ml of, because I have a lot of use for it. However, it doesn’t quite fit into this recipe.

After just 4 days, the Sugar Cookie has taken over most of the recipe, leaving the solid cheesecake trinity to be something I wish for. I get hints of the cheese cake, but it’s not really there.

When you add CAP Super Sweet into the mix, it strengthens the sugar cookie, leaving the whole recipe more of an overly sugared up sugar cookie and not a cheesecake as intended.

Next minor issue is the chocolate. VT Chocolate Mousse is not the worst chocolate on the market. It’s pretty forgiven, but it can never work on its own either. That is also the sad fate of this recipe. You kinda get a hint of chocolate, but it’s sort of flat and faded.

If I had to redo this recipe, I would probably have taken the sugar cookie out completely and introduce something that could help that chocolate mousse. Such as a drop of FLV Milk Chocolate, just to make a nice finish to the chocolate and let the cheesecake trinity do its magic.

But overall in the current state, this isn’t a bad recipe at all concerning the few bumps. It has enough going on for me to enjoy it and keep vaping nothing but it for two days, so that’s very positive. None of the ingredients in it makes it weird or anything.

I’ve always had some issues with TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust, which adds a coconut note for me, but it kinda works fine in this recipe.

I’d argue that 3 days steep is not entirely correct, as the trinity needs at least 5 days. But hey, it’s actually pretty decent after just 3 days.

I wouldn’t mind mixing this again and maybe tweak it a little to fit more of my preferences.

Strawberry Yoga by Skywxp3d (Steeped 3 days)

https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/225862

Review:

I’m pretty happy to note that this recipe is what I would classify as 90% done.

And it’s actually pretty damn good, despite how simple it is. I do enjoy simple and easy recipes, far more than I enjoy those deep and complex ones.

Do note though, that the yogurt base is made by other mixers, and the mixer of this handled the fruit part.

The reason for me that I call it 90% done is fairly simple. It’s the yogurt base that is lacking a little.

I’m missing more of the creamy mouth filling part of a yogurt here. It’s almost there, but it really lacks the element that kinda covers your mouth. It could be achieved pretty easy with some OOO Creamy Milky Undertones or some FLV Cream.

I’m not sure if the intention of PUR Condensed Milk was supposed to give the mix an effect of creaminess, but it certainly doesn’t in this case.

Taste wise however, there is nothing wrong with the recipe at all. The strawberries are picked perfectly for a recipe that would taste of what you’d expect a strawberry yogurt cup would taste like.

Just a shame that the yogurt lacks a little in texture due to the missing heavier creamy aspect.

But overall, it was pretty enjoyable and I’ll definitely make it again.

Loaded Donut Style Base by syrus83 (Steeped 7 days)

https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/221233

Review:

Given that I don’t remember ever trying any Loaded donut, I cannot base my review around whether it’s in fact a “Loaded donut base” or not.

However, this is definitely a pretty solid donut base.

I didn’t find any major issues with it and the only off-note I picked up, probably has more to do with me and not the mix itself. I detected a minor soapy off-note, but granted it uses CAP Graham Cracker, it’s on me and not the mix, since I get that note from CAP Graham Cracker.

I’d argue that the sweetener might be a tad too high, but if you’re aiming for a sort of glazed donut, then it kinda makes sense in the long run.

Pretty solid chewy texture and an all around nice greasy taste. I can see FA Zeppola really is doing a lot of work in this recipe alongside Acetyl Pyrazine.

FA Custard Prem. really brings a lot of delicious mouthfeel, but granted how hard of a flavor it is to get your hands on outside of Europe, I think a substitute for this should be suggested from the mixer.

Base works perfectly fine on its own. I went through 10ml of it pretty quick, without feeling that I needed to really add anything to it.

But I agree, that you can probably toss pretty much anything at it and turn it into whatever style of donut you’re in the mood for.

Maybe a blue raspberry donut could be fun making, using this base here.

The mixer claims it was their first time trying to pull off a mix of their own. And they passed with glory if you ask me.

I get the feeling that every single ingredient in this mix has been picked very carefully, and I appreciate that.

Good effing job.

Cookie RY4 by Chardesc (steeped 7 days)

https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/223424

Review:

I really like this mix, mainly because it is what it says it is. There’s definitely cookies here, and there’s definitely RY4. Off to a good start.

This is a sweet tobacco recipe, which is what I expected from something advertising itself as having a nice dessert base, and that it does. The FLV Vanilla Pudding really comes through with a nice vanilla note and makes the recipe taste rich and full. FA Cookie is bolstered a bit by the INW Biscuit and really comes through on the backend of the vape. VT Devon Cream is one of my favorite cream flavors, and really adds to the richness of the dessert aspect, and brings those very slight chocolate notes it has as well. CAP Super Sweet is used at 0.5%, which is probably a touch higher than I’d have used, but I mixed this as intended, and didn’t think it too sweet. I’d probably cut it in half next time, or honestly, I think FW Sweetener might be the way to go for this recipe. To me, the dessert part of this recipe is really well done using dessert staple flavors, and shows you don’t need to go crazy with flavors to do it well.

On to the tobacco, you’ve also got two staples here. Any bacco vaper is familiar with TPA RY4x2, and while it’s not quite as in vogue today as it once was, I’m still a big fan. Sure, JF is the current popular kid on this block, but TPA has a dirty, darker aspect to it that I just can’t get with JF. It’s a great choice here, as it really plays nicely against the dessert base, and the dirtiness stands up to the sweetness, rather than being overwhelmed by it. FLV Red Burley is another flavor that everyone should be pretty familiar with, and it’s not doing anything out of the ordinary in this recipe, but it pairs up with the RY4x2 to make a nice rich, medium bodied tobacco that works very well.

Overall, this is a really good recipe made by a mixer I might not have tried outside of this Mega Review, but I’m glad I did. It’s a hidden gem if you like sweet dessert tobaccos, and I’d recommend giving it a shot if you have the stuff for it. It’s pretty much all staples (at least to me), and it’s absolutely solid. Matter of fact, it’s one of the better RY4 recipes I’ve had, and I’d give it my full recommendation. Really nice work.

Buttery Ho by Mindfloodz (steeped 8 days)

https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/214055

Review:

This is delicious. Like really, really, really good if you’re into sweet tobaccos. I’m REALLY going to have to nitpick here, because it’s really everything I’d hoped it would be.

This is sweet and smokey and buttery and rich without being overly so of any of them. It’s another recipe made with flavors I’d consider staples of my collection, but it goes to show how the sum of something can be a multiple of its parts. Fine, maybe FLV Sweet & Smokey Tobacco isn’t a staple in everyone’s collection, but it damn well should be, and this recipe shows why.

Anyway, back to the review. The combination of Soho and S&S come together for me like a better, lighter version of FLV Cured. They give a rich flavor without the overwhelming nature that I get from Cured. I love this combo. It has a sweet smokiness with just a hint of nuttiness from the Soho. It’s really beautifully done, and I can’t say too much more about it than that.

Onto the custard, you’ve got two great custards here in FA Custard Premium and TPA VCII. Both great in their own right, and they’re great together here. FW Butterscotch Ripple turns the vanilla custard into a nice vanilla custard with some nice butterscotch and caramel folded in. I don’t get a butterscotch custard, but rather layers of butterscotch in vanilla custard that pop up every here and there for a really nice change of pace and surprise. It’s a great depth of flavor.

In totality, this is great. It’s one of the best tobacco recipes I’ve tried this year, and it’s 100% worth mixing. I’ve had a few conversations with this mixer, and he’s said he thinks this is the best recipe he’s come up with. I’m inclined to agree. It’s going to be a part of my rotation for fall/winter, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see this get some votes for ROTY if it gets some traction.

RWB by Dan2021 (steeped 8 days)

Review:

I’m always excited to find new summer recipes, because I can’t vape my usual stuff during the summer, and I’m usually stuck on the same 3-4 recipes during the hot season. This is a classic rocket pop, and the flavor choices looked pretty spot on to me so ahead we went.

I really like the blue and red parts of this recipe. OSD Blue Raz Slush is a favorite of mine, and plays the part really well. HC Sour Cherry is actually a really savvy choice here. It’s not well-known, but it plays the part of an artificial cherry really well, and I think more mixers could benefit from picking it up instead of some of the more well known cherry flavors on the market. It’s really not sour at all, but sweet and perfectly artificially syrupy. Great choice.

Where I think this recipe falls short is in the white lemon part of the pop. JF Lemon Juicy just doesn’t hold up, and mixing it with INW Shisha Lime does more to muddy the waters than help. I appreciate that the attempt was made to balance the lemon with the lime, but I really think a stronger solo lemon flavor (FE Lemon or VT Sour Lemon) would have helped this part along. Also, due to the lack of lemon flavor, the entire recipe tends to be a little too sweet, especially with the addition of the CAP SS, whereas a nice sharp lemon would have provided some contrast.

Overall, this recipe isn’t bad by any means, and I think it could be really good with just some adjustments to the lemon piece. I’d say it’s about 80% there, and I hope the original mixer can bring it the rest of the way. It’s a classic recipe, and one I’d like to see done right. Cheers.

Pavlova https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/212314#pavlova_by_madchem1st by madChem1st - No recommended steep; tested after a few days

I chose this one for a few reasons. Firstly because the concept seemed interesting. What is a Pavlova (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavlova_%28cake%29)?

According to Wikipedia, it's a "crisp crust and soft, light inside, usually topped with fruit and whipped cream". Sounds fantastic, right?

Secondly, the recipe itself seemed to use various heavy hitters in these categories: FLV Cream, OOO Marshmallow Vanilla, FA Meringue. I don't even really vape these profiles much, yet have had enough experience with these flavors to know I like them.

Also, raspberry is the best berry and here's a chance for me to see how someone has made ssa raspberry syrup do what I want it to do, give a drizzle on top, which I haven't been able to make it do.

So let's dig in. The raspberry here is pretty in your face. It's strong and ever-present. Perhaps too present. I've eaten a lot of raspberries and they have a distinct taste, but this one is just like stuffing a whole mouthful of raspberry, without any of the juice, all up in your gullet. As much as I like the taste, it is generally too much. I'm not sure how exactly I would improve this since raspberry flavors, and INW is pretty damn potent. Here it is as a cautionary tale that even 0.25 percent is strong af. Perhaps if it were paired with something a bit more forceful as a backing flavor, it would be less pervasive, maybe have something to break up the flavor a bit.

Meringue, cream, marshmallow and powdered sugar certainly fit the profile (while arguably missing the whipped cream), yet don't deliver enough body to compete with the raspberry as it presents here. I know that the real Pavlova is a delicate dessert, I'm just not sure that it's translating the combination in the vape form. And, I'm certainly not the guy to figure out how to fix it. I wonder if the recipe lacks some of the whipped cream that the real life dessert seems to have and whether that would bring a bit more body if the right one were used. Maybe that's not enough to meet my need for more contrast?

Overall, I found the raspberry less sweet than I expected, which I appreciate. It didn't run over into candy at all, I just had hoped that the backing meringue would give some texture and some cream that was a bit different from a regular fruit and cream. I just didn't get that. If you want a very strong raspberry with just a hint of sweet that runs maybe a little dry, give this one a go. If you are looking to try something akin to the real thing, I imagine you might need to throw in some more cream, and maybe even a little whipped cream (which could serve to tame that raspberry a little). Or just go down under/kiwi?

As a final thought, I truly appreciate u/mLnikon’s recipe Raspberry jam and croissant (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/95371#raspberry_jam_and_croissant_by_mlnikon).

She took raspberry and tamed it with boysenberry and bent it a little with some strawberry into a really satisfying raspberry flavor that preserves the delicate flakiness of wf croissant. It can be done but takes some work and some tinkering. Sometimes the path needs to take a few turns to get from A to B.

Amandette https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/213193#amandette_by_saspi by u/saspi - *recommended steep 3 days; steeped for 5*

"Sweet , buttery , soft almond cookie with hazelnut and vanilla cream filling , some powdered sugar on top."

I chose this one because I enjoy soft baked cookies, almond cookies and because I wanted a first shot at wf almond cookie without having to figure it out myself.

I rarely leave CAP Sugar Cookie land and, if so, only to use a little Biscuit to boost it. In fact, I originally eyed this one as a potential recipe to mix for the Noted Vanilla Cream episode but passed on it when I tested VT Vanilla Cream and didn't enjoy it as much as the others. All said, it has the components for a mix that is mostly to my taste using flavors I generally never reach for while still being fairly familiar.

Let's dig into it.

Mostly, I'm vaping this with a comparison in mind to the CAP SC/FA Meringue combo that I have shamelessly stolen from u/ID10-T's Tootsee Roll (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/34622) and have used as a base for basically every cookie recipe I have ever made since I first tried it.

By comparison, this is less fluffy of a cookie, though definitely soft baked with no real hint of crunch. It lacks that "fluffiness" that FA meringue brings to the combo. The almond/hazelnut combo blends in well giving it a strong nut flavor without it being a nutty cookie, almost more like someone used almond extract over almond flour/paste to make this here cookie.

I was a little worried about the hazelnut because I don't really like it too much in real life. It's generally overflavored and rarely needed (here's lookin at you hazelnut coffee!). In this mix, it helps to bend the almond a bit for which I am grateful.

FA Almond is one of very few flavors I have repurchased; I use it a massive amount. To get a hint of that almond and have it get a fresh spin with the addition of FA Hazelnut is a pleasant change for me. I worried about FA Hazelnut because I have heard that it can be a tricky flavor if used too high and here it seems to be just the right touch.

Despite the pleasure of veering from my go-to combos, I'm feeling a lack in that 'soft' part of the baked cookie.

I might in the future play with this cap/wf cookie combo but drop the powdered sugar (which I don’t exactly notice clearly) and replace it with some FA Meringue. This presents as it stands as a very mild cookie (sans crunch), strong pleasant nutty flavor without feeling like nut chunks were just pressed on top.

I don't get much in the way of cream and I imagine the VT VC just blended in, which I kinda appreciate since it wasn't my favorite, maybe just a slight hint on the exhale to refresh your taste buds.

As I even write this, I’m thinking that this is a nice little touch to keep the mix from being too heavy and overpowering. Perhaps even I might try to sub that VT with maybe WF Vanilla Tahitian Cream to play into that nutty note it has and bind them all together differently, mostly because I simply prefer that flavor over the VT and it strikes it would present a bit more aggressively.

Overall, this is a very pleasing combination that is perfectly fine as is, a nice starting point for variations with swappability (just add a hint of cardamom/bakery spice, use your favorite cream or frosting, probably could rotate through the nuts as well); won't be the same recipe, but it doesn't have to be, either!

This is a great starting point/cheat recipe for exploring the world of soft baked, nut cookies. Very enjoyable, if not to my particular taste 100%.

goostaf https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/210759#goostaf_by_zany by u/zany AKA Dico (tested at about 3 weeks' steep - recommended 12 days)

I chose this one because I really do like me some waffle.

I have been messing with waffle for a good while but never really quite committed the time to making a combo work for myself. I usually just steal u/Foment_life's base from his Blueberry Eggos (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/146481#blueberry_eggos_by_foment_life) with TFA Belgian and FW Waffle at 2.5/2.5%.

But here, I was attracted to this combo using MB Classic Belgian and SSA Crisp Waffle instead. I am definitely on the hunt for something to steal, with high hopes it will give a dark crispy vibe over a light bready one.

The VT Honeycomb is also a major draw and I am hoping it will darken up VT Golden Syrup which is often too light for my taste as a syrup. (Maple syrup flavors just never quite hitting the mark for me.) Lastly, I appreciated the simplicity of the mix. Two flavors to make up the waffle, one for syrup and two to turn it into caramel. I'm pretty excited for this one.

What I am getting here is definitely a dark hefty waffle flavor. The sell on the "cooked edges" is there. Combined with the overall butter vibe, there's an A+ on delivery here.

What's lacking for me is in the caramel drizzle. This is more just me and my personal preference; I want syrup. It tastes great as is and keeps that darkness alongside the cooked waffle, without pushing sweet or soggy. It's great for what it is. But.... it doesn't come across to me as 'syrup' and I want syrup and syrup to me is maple. Grade B dark amber VT maple. Maybe it's not the BEST drizzling in the world, but it is what I want in my mouth. I know that not everyone loves maple as much as I do, but there it is. I love me some VT honeycomb to darken up stuff and I think that there's so much here even in the caramel layer to keep if I were to steal all zany's hard work to make this more towards my personal preferences.

I can recommend trying this one as is. I love the waffle combo here which is great for dark crispier waffle style lovers. The pleasure to be found in the caramel-that-isnt-a-caramel was lost on me a bit because I was being a brat and wanted what I wanted, but it was a nice flavor and complementary to the overall mix and nicely done.

I look forward to stealing bits out of this and frankensteining something out of this that suits me. I think there is room for some spice accents, syrup play, and even some whipped creams if you felt like going over the top. Who am I to stop you?

Ty for the RWB review, someone mentioned the lemon needed some work and I actually just picked up a few more lemons to try with it. VT sour lemon being one of them. So that's where I'll start☺️ I actually picked up a few other limes too VT Persian lime and SSA sour lime. Still need to SFT them tho.

Thank you for that inside/review on my amandette recipe.that was actually one of my first recipes i created from scratch and felt that it was good enough to make public.looking at it now i agree that the powdered sugar was definitely not needed.i remember choosing the vt vanilla cream to blend with the hazelnut and sorta brighten it without overpowering the mix with vanilla notes.the addition of meringue seems like a great idea, never crossed my mind using it.ill definitely try that, Maybe add some kinako soy to help the bakery affect and boost a touch the nutty aspect of the mix..

The profile (and especially the real thing) sound great. Something that delicate I think would be really hard to emulate 1:1. This arena isn’t my strong suit so take my words with a grain of salt, for sure.

I’ve seen a few other recipes of yours I’ve wanted to try so I’m glad to have tried this one.
