PG causing throat irritation for the first time with my DIY mixes?
submitted over 4 years ago by sheishis

I've been vaping for over 8 years. Always a 70/30 or 50/50 mix. No issues AT ALL and now I'm getting a raw feeling in my throat and lots of irritation with my (delicious) DIY blends.

Why? How can this be?

I'm using Liquid Barn PG and VG.

Make a batch without nicotine.

12 MG will do it. Make a batch, seperate it and make them 0, 3, 6, and 9 and test them out and see if it helps.

ok If I have a 30ml batch of the 12mg nic sitting here....is there a way for me to "cut" the nic level just be adding more pg/vg etc?

Still a newbie to DIY

Some brands of nicotine have more strenght and cause more harshness and throat hit... My first diy ejuices have 3mg nic strenght, same of one Bazooka that i bought and my diy was 'invapable' hahahahaha try 6mg, mate!

Actually im testing mine at 0,5mg, lets see if stays nice xD

wha??? So even though I have been vaping at a nicotine level of 12 mg for years it could still be the nicotine? Meaning it could be the brand of nicotine (liquid nicotine wholesale)?

Okay now the plot thickens because I have another juice I've been diying and it has the same brand of PG and VG and the same brand of nicotine at 12mg.... The one that's causing the throat irritation is a one shot mix. But that's so weird because all that's in the one shot is the flavors right?

Is the flavor that's bothering you something new to you? If so that could be it, just found something you're sensitive to.

Yeah I'm thinking its something in the flavoring. It's a one shot mix from Flavor Jungle :(

Flavorings absolutely can cause this. I'm not familiar with one shots but I've made countless gallons of eliquid.

Or "Flavor Jungle" is using flavors not appropriate to vaping use.

You probably have an intolerance to something in it. When I have hazel nuts, my throat hurts and my ears feel plugged. You may also feel some abdominal discomfort from the smell of it.

Maybe try a different nicotine? I know that’s hard to hear. Have you tried mixing without nicotine to eliminate that possibility?

Change you device if you can or at least the coil and air flow adjustments and coil position if rba

Some aroma’s can be a bit harsh, maybe too high % or didnt steep enough?

Probably the flavorings or nic

Try making a batch without nicotine to see if it's harsh nic. If it's still harsh, test your vg and pg separately on a dripper. Neither should be harsh. After that it's on to testing each flavor to find the culprit.
