I've been mixing for over half a year now. I know I definitely still have a lot to improve upon, but at this stage I have 4 or 5 recipes that my group of friends consistently buy from me. My mixes have never been as "flavorsome" as commercial juices, but they're pretty damn good vapes.

From my understanding, what makes a commercial juice is a *really* well balanced recipe, and shit loads of sweetener. What I don't understand, is why the scent of my juices are so faint when I smell the tip of the bottle they're in. The scent of commercial juices from the bottle is similar in intensity to smelling my concentrates.

It feels like they put 50% flavoring in the damn thing!
Anyone have any thoughts?
It is increased flavor percentages mostly. My mixes smell no different than most commercial though.
This is what I first thought, but even my mixes where I've pushed the flavoring to 20% have smelled quite faint.
Hi. They use simple profiles and I disagree on the well-balanced statement. They usually are overflavored and nowhere near well-balanced, which is why they add 2-5% CAP SuperSweet. It hides the off notes. DIY is so much better imho.
It's not an opinion, it's a fact that DIY is absolutely the best. When you have the right wick and settings, even 0.25% CAP SS can be too sweet.
I sold my DIY stuff to tons of people locally and on Reddit for years before going commercial. When I went commercial I basically bumped my flavorings up 50% (same overall ratio to one another, just more of it) and added sweetener (for non salts, salts I left it out except 3 out of 34 flavors) to “compete” with the commercial market. I still make 2 of my flavors the way I used to and there is a definite difference in smell from the bottle, the commercial mix is must stronger. Most likely this is the reasoning, more flavoring in the bottle, so a stronger smell.
Commercial Juice is optimized for beginners and their poor clearomizer. For high-end RTAs absolute overkill.
Could this be why, with my RTAs, that the flavors seem very muted? For instance, my favorite commercial juice is delicious in my sub-ohm tank but when I tried it in my RTA there was hardly any flavor.
If you mean MTL RTA then yes, partially. It could be that you are doing something wrong with your build, but overall DTL is more flavorful. More vapor generally means more flavor, up to a certain point. And a decent DTL RTA will be even more flavorful than a sub-ohm tank.
If you meant DTL RTA, then you are either doing something wrong or using a sub-par device. Could be your wicking or not the right coils. Could be something as simple as coil positioning or it could be your power to air ratio that corresponds with coil mass.
ON Topic: u/kiverisb Every aroma concentrate is different and some will be more aromatic than others. Some need to be heated to come to fruition. And then there is the subjective variety in aromatic perception too. Everyone's brain/smell is different. The amount of smell or number of smells you can detect would depend on age, experience, lifestyle and genetics.
I see a lot of claims here that commercial companies overflavor their juices. From what I've seen from leaked recipes that really depends. Some do, some don't. And sweetener can increase perception overall, but these commercial companies aren't putting extra sweetener in to make it smell better from the bottle. I think -and this is a theory, that -ofc depending on the company they would put more sweetener in to make it appeal to a wider audience and potentially hooking consumers on a sugary taste. If it's a juice company like a shop that also sells coils, you have extra reason to be weary about the sweetener amounts used in their house-juices as they'd sell more coil-heads that way. Of course not every shop is like this though. Just keep in mind that in order to get a 70/30 juice, you can't go over 30% total flavor. Some companies would use as much as that and some may even go higher for a 60/40 or 50/50 mix. Does it make it more flavorful? Not always. Does more concentrate make it more aromatic? Probably, but again this will depend on the specifics.
So basically, there is not one simple answer to these questions.
It was the Dovpo Blotto RTA. The juices I tried with it were Vape Pink's Cookie Butter & Jam Monster Lemon.
I used pre-built coils that I bought; they work fine and have plenty of taste when used with my RDA. The same with my cotton; However, I don't use my RDA that much & would more than likely still be considered a noob so it could be my build. After emptying/refilling/rewicking a few times, I was irritated with the amount of juice I lost & gave up - I put the rta back in its box & it's been sitting in there ever since, which was months ago.
I'll have to get it back out and practice with it.
Businesses are always looking to save $$$ when it comes to operating costs and on products so using a ton of flavoring when the smarter choice is to use the least amount is bad business .

I have found that Juices with a ton of flavoring in them are not as good as recipes that use much less in most cases .

There are juices that don't smell strong but taste amazing.
I think it's mainly because they bump up the percentage a lot. Some juices, when I buy commercial cheap, I almost have to dilute it a bit to get something that doesn't kill me when I vape it. But I like plainer subtler flavours, more like hints than full on profiles slaps. However I do also mix often flavourings to try and cut the over powering nature I find I get. So atm I have a crisp apple commercial that I'm mixing half to half with a lychee fizz, and loving the combo, but reduced flavour percentage.
Ultimately it's not how scented it is, unless you are selling, it's how it tastes when you vape it. If it's not strong enough, just keep bumping the percentages up till it suits you. That's the great thing about DIY. 1% flavouring of something is great for one person, but the next might prefer 5% of it.
Almost all commercial juices have a very similar taste and smell to me. It's got to be the sweetener they load it up with.
In terms of how strong the smell is, maybe the flavors you use for your juice just aren't as powerful as the ones they use? For instance my Guava is very overpowering even at low percentages but the Pineapple I have is much more subtle.
yeah, i managed to clone n64 from beard vape, but i have to mix it like 50% flavoring and 50% rest to even get close to the same strength as the bought one. Maybe they have some super concentrates or something I dont get it.
