So I have this scale currently

I've noticed that sometimes when adding pg flavoring, my scale doesn't recognize the weight change until I put 4-5 drops in. This really throws me off when adding Super Sweet and I've resorted to using the drop amount rather than gram weight. I mix nic salts if thats relevant
Anybody else had this issue? I tested the weight of a nickel and it weighed that fine, no calibration issues that I can see, but idk.
New scale? New calibration? Somebody help me out here
Mine is occasionally slow to respond too. When it does, I blow on the scale with a short puff of breath. That gets the scale to react and then settle down on the new/higher reading.
Scales like that aren't accurate enough for such small quantities - Most won't register anything below 0.03g.
I'd suggest getting a jewelry scale, if you're going for accuracy.
I personally use one for 10ml testers.
Which one do you have? I haven't started mixing yet but I bought nicotine and a scale so far. I went with the LB-501 but was considering getting something a little better. I know it's the most recommended one but I know I'm gonna end up mixing 10ml all the time and I read tons of stuff on here and the FB group saying it sucks for small batches like that.
The one I use is called US-Inferno, from US Balance ($30) - But I just went on eBay and looked for a 20g x 0.001g jewelry scale.
I don't know if the one I have is better or worse than something else, since I have nothing to compare it to - but it works fine for me.
If calibrating doesn’t fix it then you need a new scale. Typically one drop of flavoring on average is 0.016g ~ 0.022g on my scale
Mind sharing which scale you use?
You can’t buy it anymore but you can get equivalent ones on amazon that are much better than mine. I got mine from my meth dealer friend. Smart Weigh JDS20.
The limitation to scales with 0.001 resolution is the weight capacity. Over 100g is going to get pricey. 0.01 scales are perfectly adequate, all I was saying was you have a bigger headache if your scale can’t register one drop of PG.
A possible work around could be putting like a coin on the scale to get it to start weighing then add your flavor. Then just for peace of mind, remove the coin and you should also see the weight you added
Yeah - sounds like there's something up with that scale. American weight is an excellent brand but maybe there's an issue. If the surface isn't level that can affect it a LITTLE bit but 4 or 5 drops is a lot to wait for it to jump. Grab yourself an LB 501 like everyone else and live happily :)
Edited to add - i have some 'cheap' amazon scales as well and they do a great job. So - you shouldn't have to spend much to get better than what yours is doing.
I figured something was off on mine, I'll look into the LB 501. Thanks!
most scales will do this bc most of them won't register until at least 0.02-0.05g has been added in after taring. i haven't used a single scale under $100 that will register under 0.03g. my solution would be to just not tare the last amount right before adding the cap ss, then just add in the amount of cap ss you want. so basically I would add in the flavor, then add the amount of cap ss in grams to that # so I know when to stop adding in the cap ss. i hope this makes sense, i can try to explain better if not. basically the problem comes from taring out the scale
you could also make a 10:1 dilution as others have mentioned, but I personally just do the method i poorly explained.
Important pro tip- make sure you wait 3-4 solid seconds after dropping before you continue bc the scales always take a few seconds to "catch up" to what you're weighing, they don't always instantly register
To make sure I understand, just finish out the first flavor with SS? So if I had a Mint flavor call for 1.00 g and SS at .10. Just add 1.00 mint and then .10 SS before taring? That would make sense..bc usually after 10 or so drops the scale picks up just fine. Never thought of doing this
