I recently made my first batch of liquid. I made 1000ml, because noob.
I wanted 50/50 pg/vg and 6mg/ml nicotine.
I used my food grade pg, food grade vg, and my nicotine was from Carolina Extracts 100/mg/ml suspended in vg.
I didn't steep it more than a few days because I wanted to test it so I could be sure it was usable before waiting that long to be disappointed. I tried some today, as did my wife, and it kinda hurts our throat/upper chest area.
Can anyone tell me (1) what may have been wrong with the mixture and (2) what measurements you would have used for each part?
1000ml total, 50/50 pg/vg, with two flavors equaling 15%.
I have that issue too albeit with a different nic vendor. I read you should let it steep and shake multiple times a day to really ensure the nicotine is evenly distributed in the mix and there's no hotspots where it's more concentrated. Could also try the mix without nicotine to see if the issue persists.
Anyways I'm giving that a try, but also going from my usual 6mg to 3mg because I vape sub ohm and don't really need 6mg nic. I usually buy stronger juice so it lasts longer lol. Also going from 70/30 vg/pg to 75/25 or 80/20.
Damn ok, glad I'm not the only one that seems to have the issue. I have been shaking it but definitely not multiple times a day. My gut reaction was the steeping though, assuming the premixed base I had before from them was steeped a little on it's own or something.
Someone else said the same about the mix though I think I definitely am going to adjust for a higher VG mix. I should have from the get-go because I prefer bigger clouds. But, premixed was always "50/50". Only now I just don't believe them lol.
some people are pg sensitive. are you vaping it mtl or dtl? dtl you may find vg/pg 70/30 a better ratio. mtl you may find 70/30 doable if you are dripping. I wouldnt suggest 70/30 for an mtl rta unless you like an occassional hit; if you at all chain vape, i wouldnt go higher than 60%vg.

that said, it could be your flavors. you didnt mention which ones they were.
Oh sorry, we both do dtl at about 45-50w. As for chain vaping, I suppose we do that? Not on purpose or anything but as we just watch tv and stuff we take hits. No dripping or anything.
The flavors we use are vanilla reserve & creamy vanilla from vaporvapes, so not a true "super diy" type mix. We were using their premixed base but with the pact act I wanted to get some nicotine ahead of time and mix my own.
I did use 7.5% of each flavor to equal 15% fwiw not 15% of each. I find it so weird that the premix base from them didn't feel anything like this, so I didn't expect it to be much different.
Not knowing anything about those flavors and their recommended percents, my guess would be the 50/50. I would order some vg if you don’t have it and/or add vg to the mix for starters. Try it with a small sample, say 20-30ml of that larger mix.
I like throat hit and tried 30/70 vg/pg mtl for a while. I loved the throat hit until about a week later my chest ached like crazy
Not sure if anyone has mentioned yet, but you aren't supposed to use food grade base. You are supposed to use USP or the euro equivalent. Food grade VG isn't suitable for vaping.
Oh, um, lemme check. It had the reviews of like 9k people and many were vapors that's why i got it.
It's raw+rare as the brand, USP food grade (confusing then)
Has more uses than I could list but that's sure silly if true because food grade would mean safe to ingest.
It sounds like you are saying you started with 50/50 then added 15% flavoring(which is PG) which probably put it down to 60 pg 40 vg... then you added your nic(not sure if yours is pg or vg based) either way pg is what causes the throat hit /chest burn. You want your final product AFTER adding nic and flavoring to be 50/50 not before. Your flavoring and your pg needs to be part of that 50% , same with your nic whether it's pg vg
I had said in there the nicotine is suspended in vg, which I put into the 1000ml bottle first. Followed by the flavor, shook vigorously and then added pg/vg vigorously, and placed in my dark cool cupboard. I looked at it's color and viscosity once a day for the next few days when I also shook it vigorously. Think it was day 3 when I tried the blend.

Either way, thanks for the response, but I had fixed a few days ago after the other responses. Cheers.
I've gone mostly MTL lately to save resources (vape ban) and mix 50/50 for my RTA. I want to ditch a lot of the PG as I'm getting more sensitive to it. What is the best alternative to PG I can use to thin the mix out? Thanks..
another option to replacing PG entirely, depending on what you are using for an atomizer, you can get away with up to 65 vg successfully. make sure you aren't chain vaping all day or have two devices at hand for when one is not rewicking fast enough.
The guy who got me into making my own juice tells me to steep the juice with the lid off for maximum flavour. Is there any logic to this? Please and thank you.
So I'm in need of some help for a vanilla. Specifically in search of a very vibrant and in your face bold vanilla. Mostly what I've read and researched has them depicted as too dark or faint and muted. While others throw off fruity notes. Looking for one that really stands out fully. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
VaporVapes are one-shots. You’re supposed to use them solo and not mixed. I know it’s too late, but you should have made three 10ml batches at 10%.
10ml - using 10% flavor 1
10ml - using 10% flavor 2
10ml - using 5% flavor 1 + 5% flavor 2
Try this:
11.49g (10ml of your 1L mix)
8.2g (6.5ml VG)
0.5g nicotine
This will give you 17ml 70/30 6mg and also dilute your flavor a bit
I beleive they have shots as well, but it even says on it to use 10% of the concentrate.
But most importantly, the flavoring is fine when mixed in the base they have for sale on their site which is 50/50 6mg/ml. I've used the mix this way for months and it was fine, only had this problem when mixing my own pg/vg/nic base recently.
What it sounds like you're saying to do is what I did. We started with 10% total flavor months ago and it wasn't enough so we went to 15%. Which we did 7.5% of each falvor to total 15% total for the 1000ml.
EDIT: You edited yours, so just wanted say I saw and ask if you're saying 70 vg 30 pg? And, is it possible for the flavor to be hurting me now when it never did for months? It seemed like that'd be the only new thing in the equation (the home made base). I'm just wondering because I'm new not trying to sound like some kind of know-it-all or something. Just genuine questions.
Also, here'swhat I used, does that look correct?
Yeah, what you’re using essentially are one-shots used for short fills, which is why they say to start at 10% and adjust accordingly. When you get your VG, follow my 17ml fix. Don’t try to fix the whole 1L at once
Ok, real quick, I'm trying to make sense of why the shots part matters. I got huge bottles of them, 500ml's of each flavor. If it can be used as 10% in a 30ml bottle, why not also in a 1000ml bottle? Sorry, like I said I'm kinda new to this.
Also, in case you missed my edit, here's what I used to mix the batch.
Okay so I have a bit of a situation I am hoping to get some help with. A close friend who vapes 0mg juice decided to get into diy since no Nic needed. Well things happened and he is not going to be mixing and gave me everything. So I now have 2 500ml of each pg and vg and about 80 different flavors 15ml size ranging from fruit to dessert. He went a bit overboard. A digital scale pet Chubby bottles in 10 30 and 60ml.
So I came here read the side bar started watching videos and it just doesn’t make sense to me so I thought I would order some solos from Gremberry farms. But even then no idea how much you would add. It’s gotten to the point where I am wiling to give the stuff I have away. Everything is brand new never been opened still in the original packing and boxes. Everyone says diy is easy. I have everything I need thanks to him but I still can’t get an understanding of how to do it. I don’t want the stuff to go to waste. Having 0 nic isn’t an issue as that is my end goal. I really thought I could do this but I can’t so have a lot of new diy stuff here. Sorry for the ramble
The best tool I've found, as a fellow newbie to DIY is: https://e-liquid-recipes.com/. You just plug in how much you're making, add the flavor/s and it gives you all the info you need.
I would suggest starting with little test bottles, so the 10mL at first while you're still figuring out what you like. If you're not sure what % of PG and VG, start with 50/50, and then alter it from there. Lots of people seem to like 70VG/30PG, but it's a bit of personal taste. I usually test new flavors at a low %, like 2-5 or so, but you can also read on that website what other people suggest. If the flavor is too weak, add more, if it's too strong, add less. Some flavors I've found are just overpowering, and I only need like 0.5%, while others I need like 6%.
To break it down as simply as I can, let's assume you're making 50% PG and 50% VG juice. PG and VG are the base of juice, but also flavors and NIC will have a PG or VG base generally. So say you're making 50/50 mix 10mL, and adding 5% flavor of honeydew, and you said no nic, so we'll skip that part. Most flavors are PG based I've found. So you'd end up with 50% VG (5mL), 45% PG base (4.50mL), and 5% flavor (0.5mL) to equal the 10mL total. That website above will also give conversions of mL to grams, so you can use the scale (which I recommend). Once you find flavors that you like, you can mix them (typically at lower % than if you're doing a single flavor mix). I think I heard general rule of thumb is no more than 10-20% flavor total. I highly recommend taking notes, because after you've made 40 bottles it's hard to remember which you liked and if you were going to change it on the next batch somehow. There are some really good resources on youtube and the internet as well with very detailed walkthroughs, this is the one I read that made sense to me: https://vaping360.com/learn/how-to-make-diy-vape-juice/.

For me at least it was a fair amount of trial and error to figure out what I like and in what percentages. But I found it was totally worth it once I got there, and all you've got to lose is time at this point if all of that was free :) hope this helped.
Yes it actually did thank you I do have a scale I think it’s looking at all the percentages that’s throwing me off never been good at them but how you explained it adding the ml next to the percentages made it click for me a little more and I am going to watch the video you linked. Yeah it was all free except the solos I bought but I don’t even know how to use those either
Okay so if I use a scale I zero it out with the empty bottle before adding anything and then the flavors and then the pg till I reach 5ml and then vg to full if I am making 50/50? Though it will be going in a Zeus tank or cerebus isn’t 50/50 kind of thin for that?
This guide plus an ejuice calculator to plug your PG/VG ratios and batch size into should help you to understand. After the first time you will wonder what seemed so confusing:) Hope this helps, and welcome in!
I'm trying to create a raspberry fruit cocktail of sorts. I've been using TFA and INW Raspberry with FA Meringue for a while but the end result is very dry. I could probably fill it out with a cream for a better end result but I've wanted to try adding another raspberry flavor and I'm unsure where to start.
I remember a post here that had in depth breakdowns of many raspberry flavors but I cant seem to find it. Anyone have the link?
Edit - It was WF Boysenberry and FW Razzleberry I was looking for. Finally found it.
sharing what percents you tried would also help us understand what you have tried and mysebe why it was dry for you.
3% TFA Raspberry, 0.8% INW Malina Raspberry, 1.5% FA Meringue.
I believe it's the INW making it vape dry but any lower than 0.8% and it fails to deliver the flavor i like.
My plan is to lower the INW to 0.4% - 0.5% and add 0.5% or so of WF Boysenberry and/or 1% - 2% FW Razzleberry. I have plenty of 10mls to try various percentages until I find what I like.
I just want a nice raspberry mix I dont have to wait 2 or more weeks to steep.
