The old eye-crometer.

lmao.. to be honest, i eye it a lot. I'm pretty new and my mixes aren't always the best, so i add this and that and mix the bottles together until they're good tasting. 😬

That's how most professional chefs operate. Nothing wrong with using the Mark I eyeballs to gauge.

i make some mean dinners that way haha. i look at my fridge and in the pantry and whip stuff up. ejuice is a little different because you don't know usually until it steeps. i had bought 3 bottles of Freeman's Trail Blazer and thought it was so gross... i tried it again after a few weeks and i loved it so much that I'm really sad i didn't buy more. now I'm planning to build up tobacco/peanut butter flavorings to see if i can come close to my own take on it. I tasted a little coconut in it at first, so i got some coconut candy in my last order.. we'll see.

I agree.. Seems fishy.. Shit even after 5 yrs I am still a few ml off of telling how much is in a 120 after using it.. I am usually off by 3 and 5ml but still alot considering accuracy..

5 years and you don't use a scale?

2 points

by JWitfieldabout 4 years ago

I use a scale.. What kinda god you think I am..

by Rebar77about 4 years ago

The great thing about a scale, or syringe, or counting drops(for flav's) is recreating something you like. Just to keep track of eh. At least make a note.

There might come a time when you find a bottle you mixed in the back of a drawer months later that tastes heavenly... only to have no idea what's actually in it. Be safe from that horror, friend. lol.

Have fun!

This is what I bought a little label maker machine for lmao...since I make different nic strengths (for different situations) and to make sure I know pretty much what the bottle consists of.

by canudigit365about 4 years ago

Yeah 3 things I learned being a noob. Get a good scale.
Get a label maker, I date my juice so I know how long it has to steep. The last one is the most important. I started mixing all the ingredients and then shook my mixes. The correct way I believe is flavors, nic,pg shake and then vg and shake again.

There’s no correct way to mix but if you add your nic first and overshoot it either by mistake or accident you can fix it easy by taking the nic out, all of it or just what you overshot.

> I can now make all kinds of juice for 90% of the cost of buying it in the store.

Either you meant to say 10% of the cost or you wildly overpaid for your supplies :)

regardless, happy to hear its workin' for ya. and buy that scale.

Great job buddy.4% ry4 + 1% sweet n smokey is a tasty tobacco base to start off to.most of us had horrible results at first so seems like you got a head start ! Keep on mixing

I do not use a scale and never have. I have always used syringes.

4 points

by Moltar_Returnsabout 4 years ago

Syringe gang!!

Too stubborn to change from how I first learned, but I always mix big batches just for myself, so the tiny flavor variations go unnoticed.

Check out steamengine.org, if you haven't it's very handy for computing eliquid proportions. What do you all use a scale for? I've been making my own juice for years and have never needed to know the mass/weight. I just use a syringe.

by Akeldama22about 4 years ago

Measuring by volume works, but measuring by weight is much more accurate, which might not matter when mixing a 120ml bottle where everything is 3-5%, but matters a lot when you only want 0.5% of WS23, or you're mixing a 5ml test bottle.

by jwolf227about 4 years agoMentholatier

Eh I just use a standard bottle for my menthol and do it by the drop, but I just use 10% menthol crystals in PG, which might not be as potent was WS23. Still would be really easy to get close to .5% in something bigger than 5 ml, and with the by the drop method you can make your flavor, test it, and just add another drop if its not what you were hoping for.

Depending on the bottle I use to mix in, I measure everything that comes in PG by volume, then just dump VG in to finish the mix till the bottle is full (only because VG sucks to manipulate with a syringe), but I literally have been vaping the same flavor for about 6 years now so I have my system down pat.

>the same flavor

like… one? one flavor? that’s all you vape?

(looks around at the six mods and three pods all over her house, all with different juices, and the 200 flavors in the cabinet)

by WillzyxandOnandOnabout 4 years ago

That makes sense, thanks. I do large batchs and rarely adjust my flavors so never really make a test bottle.

1 points

by mrsc00babout 4 years ago

Same. The only thing I measure anymore is nic in a syringe. I've done it for so long I just eyeball my flavors.

Bro i envy that beginners experience!! My 1st batches of "oh these sound good together" were absolutely disgusting!!! Congrats on the switch though, its a fun journey once you get the hang of it!! I wont create recipes myself for a while, but at keast theres brilliant people out there willing to share thier recipes!!

Boy do I know that feeling, one of the first juices I tried to make was a spearmint/mint menthol, well it sounded like it was going to be amazing but I ended up making vicks vaporub lol

Yo same. My order came - made me a replica of suicide bunny OB that tastes just like the original for just a fraction of the cost. It seemed like it would be a pain in the ass - but with a nice scale, some droppers and a funnel its super easy.

Idk how new yoy are but All The Flavors website has amazing recipes on there. Also eliquid recipes website but that site can be overwhelming sometimes

I have about a month left of commercial juice and then me and my 2 liters of nic are going to get acquainted . I’m anxious to start actually, so I’m glad to hear you’re having success right out of the gate. Gives me hope 😂

I started about two months ago myself. Made some damn good juice so far

Nice! I have all the equipment in need and the materials to begin with 4 recipes I chose to start looking for something I like. But I told myself I’d work through the last of the juice I have so it doesn’t go to waste.

It can be handy to have something nice around when learning. So you don't have to hate-vape something you saved from the jug of shame(all the horror for emergency nic!). Heh heh.

i started about a month ago. i was waiting on a commercial order (had to be, um, rerouted bc i live in ny). so i made some juice to tide me over.

turns out i like my juice better than the commercial juice. all my “favorite flavors” and i haven’t opened a single one.

Once you get on DIY you’re like why the hell did I ever vape this crap. Ive been off commercial for years but I have customers give me commercial juice samples sometimes cuz they want it cloned and I’m like gross. Why?

1 points

Congrats on your first mixes. It's a fun and rewarding experience.

Scales are dirt cheap peeps. Really don’t need a fancy one to start with, a 20$ jobby off amazon will do you if you’re just mixing personal. No excuse really not to have one. Keep mixin and keep learning! 🤘🏻

If only there was a VCT clone out there..but I’m new at DIY myself. Grack is one of the first juices I made that was consistently “goodish” Bull city flavors has flavor packs and I recommend them. I’m really in love with the apple cinn danish right now. Just made a small 10ml tester and added a drop or two of Cap SS in it to test

This sounds really good D: did it come out?

The apple cinn danish is GOOD. I made that tester but forgot about it and haven’t tested it with fresh wick yet. Lol.
