Mason jars?
submitted over 4 years ago by mikewite88

Just got a lot of nic in and I was wondering if mason jars would be a viable option for storing it in the freezer. Reason being that I can pop right over to the grocery store and grab some for cheap vs waiting on Amazon and paying more. Don't see any reason why not, but just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone knows better. I know dark glass is better, but I don't think it would matter since it'll be in the freezer and won't see any light.

Also, is there any point in freezing/refrigerating small bottles of flavoring?

Thanks!

Mason jars are glass and airtight. They are perfect. Maybe foil to protect from light.

Good idea with the foil! My only concern is how to seal them. Every tutorial I read says to boil them but that just doesn't seem like a good idea with it full of nic. Probably just skip that step and do it quick and put them up. Lol

Seal them? Just use Argon gas from Amazon. Mason jars are air tight. Boiling will make the nic oxidize faster so dont do that

So it's like a can of keyboard duster that you just spray in there to get oxygen out?

you wont need foil if its in the freezer where it should be

There is no light in the freezer.

I use amber glass mason jars I bought from WalMart to store my nicotine. I dont see why I wouldnt when they're literally easier and cheaper to buy. Your local Walmart keeps mason jars near crafting supplies just fyi.

I also use mason jars to store VG and PG but just the regular ones. Got a 12 pack of one liter jars on sale for $8 from WM.

Only use your average amber bottle for my mixes cause it's cheaper in the long term versus plastic bottles.

Good advice. Happy to hear that it works. Damn I hate going in walmart so bad. Lol. Do you do anything special to seal it up or just pour it in and put the lid on and throw it in the freezer?

I use argon aka ArT wine preserver or bloxygen to displace the oxygen and then just seal it like normal.

Same thing I would do with other amber glass. Bloxygen seems to make more sense with mason jars as it includes a straw or whatever to release argon as you attach a lid. ArT is more for bottles with necks.

Michael's and Target also sell mason jars.

I just went by Kroger and grabbed a 12 pack of 16oz jars for about $15. If you bought 2 of those it would hold exactly 3 gallons. Well, minus whatever space you leave at the top. Still much cheaper I'm sure.

Thanks for the idea! I've been pretty up in the air about what to do with mine.

I used mason jars! I filled to nearly the top, capped, screwed on, put them in their box in a giant tupperware and then put tupperware in a black trash bag at bottom of my deep freezer. A year later nic is still doing good. Still clear. Was a much cheaper option. I do recommend exercisifn caution when pouring into a working bottle, or getting a large luer lock syringe to draw it out and put into a working bottle for mixing.
