How long will nicotine in amber glass last in the fridge or at room temperature?
submitted over 4 years ago by DimFall

When I searched for an answer, I'm mostly finding answers pertaining to freezer storage. I have about 1.5l coming that will go in the freezer, but I don't have a ton more freezer space. However, I'd still like to pick up another liter or two. How long do you think I can store it in the fridge or at room temp (in a dark place)? I would be putting it in an amber bottle and possibly topping it off with argon (still trying to decide how necessary this part is). Could I reasonably expect to keep a 1-3 year supply this way, or it needs to go in the freezer to keep for over a year? I'd like to pick up some 100mg/ml, but I could go lower if it will keep longer that way.

Edit: Thanks all. I'm gonna get as much as I can fit in my freezer and then keep about a years supply in the fridge.

Glass bottle, cool dark place with the argon on it you should get about a year n half maybe 2. Heat and oxygen are the killers.

I know for sure you can get a year out it in glass bottles in the fridge. Room temp in a plastic bottle will get you maybe a month or 2. Room temp in glass gets you about 6 months.

my room temp plastic bottle is going on 6 months and its still like the day I got it, just kept it in a dark drawer in a cooler room in the house

That's interesting because my room temp bottle only lasted 2 months and it turned dark brown and peppery. I kept it in my cabinet that I keep my flavor bottles in.

Damn dog sorry to hear that, who do you get your nic from? Mines from LNW, 100mg in pg. bout a quarter of a 120 left and still the same color taste and smell from the day I got it in the mail.

Just because it degrades doesn't mean its un vapable, however I don't think you'll get more than a year at room temp. If you don't freeze then argon is probably a pretty good idea. try searching for some nic stress tests. I found one from u/abdada a while back where he abused his working bottle pretty heavily and still found it to be useable.

I agree. I've done some stress tests of my own so I could see and taste the difference between good nic and bad nic. I've had juice mixed that was over a year old and still tasted good. I've got a bottle that's been rattling around in my truck here since last summer still good. But there are some people who are particularly sensitive to the peppery harshness of oxidized nic. There are posts here every week about people who vape at 3mg and can still taste the oxidized nic. I vape at 18-24 and I can't tell a difference. Different people, different tastes.

I had some in the basement for a year and somewhere around that time, it smelled more strongly and got darker. It was in a plastic 500ml jug with no attempt to keep air out.

I'd buy a mini freezer when I could afford it. You can get them for under $100. I wouldn't expect more than 1-1.5 years max if left out. It would be a bummer to lose an investment.

I keep mine at room temp in the dark and it lasts me a year and a half with no degradation in flavor or potency. But it is from myfreedonsmokes and I've found it to be the best quality over every other I've tried.

Is there a big difference between storing in plastic versus amber glass in the freezer? I plan to stock up on some nicotine base, but getting enough amber bottles raises the cost quite a bit.

What I hear is that temperature fluctuations cause degradation, but I have not seen any actual data for that. What I have seen data for is argon serving no purpose outside of the freezer as at room temperature the gases in the bottle will still mix uniformly (I don't think a home freezer is cold enough either, but it can't hurt).
