Vape mail ban; what's included as far as DIY? Double checking before I place my order.
submitted over 4 years ago by Grokezwodder

Forgive me for what is surely the twentieth post like this but it's worth the down votes.

From my understanding after reading numerous posts and articles in regards to the PACT vape mail ban: the only thing in serious jeopardy (as far as DIY is concerned) is the nicotine itself, is this correct?

To be fully clear, I do not necessarily need to stock up on VG or PG right now? I imagine that's the "safest" part of juice making as far as supply goes since it's used in everything from food to brake fluids.

What about flavors themselves? Are they "safe" from the ban because they're used in food and beverage flavoring? Or is there a chance they too could be barred from being shipped directly to consumers?

Tldr: right now, buy nicotine. PG/VG and flavors stockpiling can wait?

Cause then I can put the extra money I was going to spend on flavor concentrates into buying some extra nicotine.

Thank you guys so much, I'm sorry I'm dumb 😭

Stock up on both nicotine and hardware. Everything else should be relatively safe.

I guess I'm gonna buy a new mod and rda today then too just to be safe, this is crazy and I can't believe it's not being taken more seriously in the community. Maybe another box of premade coils. I don't see how they can ban the shipment of coil wire though unless it's specifically marketed as use in vaping products.

One mod and one RDA? Most people I know bought 5-6

Too much of a risk and generally, a gamble to assume which/what will get banned since the first thing was banned is based on ignorance. Big diy companies are cooperating regardless the stupidity of the new rule, some are setting up a new network for shipping and the vape shops can continue selling but the terms of availability is now up to the in-person shops.

I just ordered everything I needed for at least two years to buy time while the ban is new and let the dust settle and see what our next options looks like.

Glycerin and propylene glycol are used way too broadly for food and skin care products to get caught up in the ban. Same goes for food flavorings. They're all sold by many retailers who have nothing to do with vaping.

I guess you could call it arrogant to assume they'll be safe. Anything is possible, but in terms of probabilities it's highly unlikely they'll present a problem.

Stocking up on liquid nicotine and coils seems like the most efficient use of a vaper's money and storage space, to remain reasonably safe for the foreseeable future.

Froggy’s Fog in TN. sells PG VG for fog machines. Actually better $ on Amazon (Identical and still ships from them). Always got premium product from there.

Nicotine base is the only DIY ingredient affected.

Technically ANY AND EVERYTHING intended to be used in a vaping device will be illegal, that being said they would need to prove that it's going to be used in/on a vaping device. If it says vape on the packages anywhere it'll probably get trashed. If it doesnt say vape on the package and if the company isnt registered as a vape company (because with vape shops/companies you have to register as a tobacco/vape company for your business license) and usps has that info... it will probably get through.

Exactly. The average consumer cannot buy anything vape related. I think both Nicotine River, now known as River Supply and Bull City Vapors now known as BC flavors saw this coming. We will no longer be able to buy vape gear or anything vape related.

Does this translate to Bull City flavors coming in absolutely clutch? 😏

There's nothing on Bull City that seems to be for vaping necessarily, and vaping doesn't really seem to be mentioned there. Most of their supplies appear geared toward homebrewed alcohol products. They should be safe (in theory?).

The Bull City reviews are loaded with vape references. If they get in a bind they can always thump them off the website. Hope they stay though. I get good starting % there.

Technically yes, ANYTHING* USED FOR VAPING IS TECHNICALLY ILLEGAL TO SHIP, IF it is used for vaping, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING!!!! So usps can destroy/throw away anything they want and I bet it would be up to the consumer/business to prove that it's not being used in vaping. Now the real question is WILL usps/fedex/ups destroy "vapemail"? I dont think so UNLESS IT SAYS VAPE ON THE PACKAGES, OR the company mailing products is registered as a tobacco/vape company... because they have no way of knowing what's inside and by law they cannot open mail unless its customs or they get the post master to get their equivalent of a "search warrant"... unless a package out right says vape on it, I dont think it'll get thrown away/flagged. Just my opinion.

I've been trying to find out exactly when companies will stop mailing nic but the two that i use have not responded to my emails, nor do they have info on their sites(that i can see). Are we just assuming that the day they stop is the day the ban goes in place? Carolina xtract is a "pharma company" so I'm still holding out hope that they won't be affected. I'm 90% sure they will though.

The problem with the nicotine is the very likely future where it will be taxed. Even if Carolina is a pharma company, you would need to provide proof that you are research lab in order to buy nicotine tax free. Otherwise, it would be sold with a huge tax. This is the same case with ethanol. In order to buy non-denatured ethanol, you need to prove you are a research lab, and then you can buy it without taxes. Otherwise, if it is non-denatured, taxes are still imposed.

I don't super mind paying the tax... I assume it'll still be much cheaper than buying from a B&M store. But hopefully i can get a little freezer and enough nic to be set for a long time. Just saving up the funds for everything. Thank you for the info 👍

You might want to worry about the tax...the most recent proposal had the tax rate at something like $50 per 1000 mg of nicotine. And yes, that is the correct amount. I frantically checked my math so many times because it blew my mind how high that tax is. So, like a 125 mL bottle of 100 mg/ml would be taxed over $600 while the current price is around $30. Now, this is not law yet, and a lower tax may end up being passed, but it will still be very expensive. I would stock up as much as you can afford. An alternative for the future would be synthetic nicotine. I have seen a few sites selling this. Since it is fully synthetic and not extracted from tobacco leaves, it is not taxable (with how the tax law is currently worded). This would still be expensive to buy, but current prices are lower than what the current proposed nicotine tax would be. I would think that if the tax is passed, then synthetic nicotine would have an increase in demand which should drive prices down a little.

Flavorings, VG, PG, bottles/mix equipment, cotton, wire spools, batteries, accessories (drip tips, glass etc,) will be safe

Nicotine, hardware, attys, pre-made coils, juices, and anything with vape or vapor in name. Nope

However I have noticed somethings over the past month of buying ...

I was browsing for a dotmission for my dotaio on their site (www.missionxv.com)

...flashlights! Lol

Examples: DotMISSION

LED diode housing for Dot style battery packs.

KRMA

510 threaded flashlight head for traditional battery packs.

And they have a picture of the mission rokr switch for the billet on a flashlight

Lol
