As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
##⭐ This week's flavor is . . . Rhubarb
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
###🎉 YOU COULD WIN A GREAT PRIZE!
That's right - all you have to do is post a reply in this thread for a chance to win! Everyone who replies will be entered into a drawing for a Flavor Pack - generously donated by the fine folks at Flavorah. The winner will be drawn during the Noted Podcast this Monday at 10pm Eastern.

####Q: How do flavors get put on the schedule?
####A: Requests and suggestions from people like YOU!
If there's something you'd like to see, just post a request in this thread. You can request both a specific flavor profile and where it lands on the calendar.
I have 9 rhubarb flavors (CAP Rhubarb, DV Rhubarb Cuddle, Chef’s Choice Rhubarb & Custard, Chef’s Choice Rhubarb, VT Rhubarb Compote, WF Sweet & Sour Rhubarb, VSO Rhubarb, INW Rhubarb, and FLV Rhubarb) and am about to try 8 rhubarb recipes:
RU Berry Jelly by Philosaphucker
R.O.B Starks Gin by Joe Roots
Rhubarb Ras Cheesecake by Echodub
Strawberry Rhubarb Boi by Germ
Orange Campari by Nachef
Crunch My Custard Rhubarb by TamVapes
Jokes On You by Fresh03
Rhuberry Delight by Nick Evans
Am I accidentally leaving out an important flavor or recipe?
Wow Dave, no DV Rhubarb Cuddle?
Rhubarb is fun! Can’t wait for the episode to come out
Have you tried any rhubarb flavors?
Rhubarb is just celery, but more metal... Blood colored stalks, poisonous leaves...
I really like rhubarb in pie alongside strawberry, but I haven't found a strawberry I can taste when vaping yet. Still looking.
Side note, these FOTWs, and the accompanying noted episodes are super useful. I have two recipes I'm trying to think of how to create, and the accompanying episodes for those flavors were incredibly useful in narrowing down what I intend on ordering for them.
That's the whole point of having an FOTW post and noted show, really. To help you find what you're looking for and avoid wasting your time and money.
If you can't taste strawberry, try rhubarb + raspberry, rhubarb + boysenberry, or rhubarb + blueberry. I'd add blackberry and cherry to that list, but knowing what I know about those concentrates, it seems like that could lead to too many disasters. Not saying it couldn't be done, just seems like too much work and too much tasting terrible stuff trying to get it right.
I've got plenty of time, and oddly kind of enjoy messing with things to see how they work.
But I do greatly appreciate the effort you all put into this. It gives me a good idea of what to look for in the flavors I'm choosing, helps narrow down the list, as well as giving us a solid warning if something tastes like dog poop.
Can someone explain to me like someone who's never tried rhubarb what rhubarb tastes like?
It's a stalk vegetable, similar to celery. Very sour, to the point of being unbearable to eat raw. It's not the same kind of sour as lemon/citrus, it's more like unsweetened cranberries or the sourest apple ever. Like something you'd probably think was not ripe yet and spit out.
That's why it's usually cooked down with sugar to balance the sour, it creates this awesome sweet and sour thing that's packed with flavor, but still retains some savory vegetable quality. I'm not really an expert on it though, hopefully someone with more experience chimes in. I've only had it two ways, in a strawberry-rhubarb pie which was one of the best pies I've ever eaten, and in a cocktail that used as an ingredient a liqueur that was infused with it.
We had rhubarb plants growing up and we used to pick and eat it. Really sour but was fun to eat.
Rhubarb, when mixed with an appropriate syrup, tastes sweet and tart, goes great with with custards. It's got this unique berry like flavor when it's mixed with syrup, and this very unique tart/tanginess/sourness. It... tastes like rhubarb. One of those "unique" flavors.
I'm not entirely sure how it's prepared to be honest; but the name instantly reminds me of the sweet tartness of a rhubarb custard over pancakes. It's pretty iconic.
it's delicious & I LOVE it. one of my favorite yogurts is Noosa Rhubarb. it's kind of like a less sweet, tart strawberry/ cranberry ish flavor. a lot of recipes include a bit of pulp for texture, which is a soft, slightly stringy (but not gets stuck in your teeth stringy, more like melt in your mouth)/ ever so slight crunch; a texture sort of like softened celery, but with a tart, tangy fruity flavor. doesn't sound appealing but it truly is! I also love rhubarb vapes very much
I just want to say, INW Rhubarb is pretty potent, use it low, like start from .25%. And it is actually smells of vinegar. But it is a decent flavor. I have two recipes on the early stage of development with it. I am actually curious what would be tge notes on other rhubarb flavors. Pretty sire tgere will be a hidden gem. Btw what about this questions to answer?
Only Rhubarb I have is WF sweet and sour Rhubarb so far. Smelling it just from the bottle, I've been kinda scared to use it. Any suggestions on pairing it with another flavor(s) is appreciated. I look forward to the upcoming episode as I enjoy Rhubarb as an actual food. Used to make Strawberry Apple Rhubarb Crisp as a child with my grandma and it was amazing! I'd like to try and recreate this in vape form. Maybe this week's Noted is just the ticket to getting the info I need in my persuit of nostalgia

Really hope this was useful and relevant :D
If I don't get this right, don't get mad at me, I'm still learning!
Rhubarb is one of those concentrates, that are super hard to transition into vapes.
It is well known, that the element of "sour" is hard when it comes to vaping, which is where most rhubarb concentrates I have tried has failed. It's the sour bitter taste of rhubarb that makes it a rhubarb. Most concentrates I have tried, has failed misserably thanks to being too synthetic, which just makes them taste gross.
Although in their defense, I do come from a country where rhubarb is almost traditional every summer per definition, so I might be biased into hell.
Rhubarb always looked to me like a celery dripping blood.
Love me some rhubarb. I'll never forget the crusty pie with rhubarb jam I ate at a patisserie.
Also, had the chance to vape a NET made with Java (an Indonesian tobacco for cigars), apple and rhubarb.
Such a fantastic balanced vape, the tobacco blended nicely with the sweet apple and the sourness/bitterness of the rhubarb.
For those interested, it's called The Trail, and it's made by Clamour Vape.
Looking forward for the episode!
I dont need a cap to think, but i can use a paper bag to calm down after seeing the changes to this fotw thread . . .
- First Order - Which flavors should someone buy on their first order?
whatever you do, newcomer, dont buy into the idea that this cheesy post is representative of all our tastes.
- Warning! - Which flavors are Dumpster Fires?
the dumpster fire is that unreadable chart. it's a prime example that correlates to mixing flavors. Less is more.
- Hidden Gems - Are there any flavors lurking in the shadows that we should all know about?
the only thing lurking in the shadows here is my hope that u/ID10-T will take the thread back over or find a suitable replacement
- Substitution - Are there any flavors in this category that are interchangeable?
this thread in itself is evidence that not all flavors are created equal. there's some flavors you simply cannot sub. corn is no replacement for bread and butter.
- Beginner Recipes - Which recipes should a beginner try first?
try reading literally any other fotw thread. even better, go back to when flv didnt offer a flavor pack every week. it was a literal desert of ideas. u/Flavorah is singlehandedly responsible for turning this weekly into a powerhouse of ideas, contributions and exchange. credit to them for revitalizing this thread and this community in so many ways. that is how it is done with class and taste and a commitment to the community.
- Best Recipes - Which recipes are simply the best?
not this one.
- Pairing - What other flavors work well with the FOTW?
see above ^
- Versatility - Can this flavor be used for something other than it's taste? (ie add juiciness)
taste, apparently, is a matter of subjective opinion
- Winning - Who is going to win the prize this week?
i cant tell you who's winning. but i can tell you who's losing.
- Groans - Can the puns get any worse?
apparently. they're always worse when they are incredibly obvious or simply corny and not funny
- Enjoyment - Are we having FUN yet?
im not. another weekly gone to shit.
- i
ps not an entry. give the pack to someone else. oh, and im looking forward to seeing wolf on rhubarb with the noted team. i love that noted has always welcomed guests of any level to some and share their thoughts on flavors from their own perspective creating a well rounded balance of perspectives. Noted and this thread on reddit has been the cornerstone/water cooler of this community since forever and I absolutely cherish it. i implore you not to fix what ain't broke.
Here's the thing. I've always said FOTW is your FOTW, not mine. And meant it.
But I don't see anyone other than /u/odiedoodah putting time & effort into making it more informative, colorful, and easily packaged for weekly posting.
Now, I 100% get that quite a bit of this is overly corny, severely cringe-worthy, painfully eye-rolly awkwardness. Dude, Odie, I love your enthusiasm, but you're an absolute doofus. You understand that, right?
If enough folks want me to scrap this and put FOTW back the way it was, I will do that, of course, because again, it's your FOTW.
Or better yet, if someone wants to offer specific improvements other than just "put it back" - I'd be happy to implement those as long as it doesn't create more work for me on an ongoing basis.
What you're seeing above is a template that can just be copied and pasted from a spreadsheet weekly. Literally all I have to do is give Odie an imgur link for the "fun" picture and write a title and the rest is done. Maybe someone wants to create the same thing, only cooler, or work with Odie to improve his?
For reference, here's what the FOTW looked like before Odie started doing all the work: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/gdyqbz/if_you_make_a_gradea_recipe_with_this_flavor_of/
My two cents - the "questions" section is a waste of space.
I don't know that it necessarily needs to be back the way it was. But it needs to be something other than the eye bleeding going on.
It is a bit busy and maybe a touch long. But I don't mind the pop of color. If we could settle somewhere in the middle, perhaps streamline it a bit... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm down to help out u/odiedoodah and u/isuamadog
Edit: Looks like everyone else is already on top of it. I feel that the links sections could be condensed a bit

I have to admit, I agree with doggo here. Maybe slightly less aggressive about it, but the overall point I agree with.
The old FotM was far better and I don't have to sit feeling like some dumb kid, who can't think for himself unless a grown up holds my hand.
I want, nay I demand to have Dave's beautiful format back!
Beautiful? It was ugly and lazy but reasonably effective, just like my personality.
I just killed the "questions" section to cut down on the cornball vibe a bit. Is that better?
I have to confess, maybe I can't taste Rhubarb correctly to start with.
Every time I have had Rhubarb in real form, not vape, all it seems to do is mostly mute the flavors of everything else going on. Which can be useful, in a sense, but it doesn't seem to really bring a lot to the table for me.
Strawberry Rhubarb Pie to me is a poor substitute for mixed berry, strawberry basil (yeah they go great together), or anything else with a strawberry.
Similarly for anything else Rhubarb is in.
All that said, i've only had it cooked, never raw which is apparently quite different. Haven't bought any to vape.
For people who have tried it, are vape rhubarbs closer to cooked rhubarb or raw?
Never had rhubarb myself, at least not that I can recall. Some of the descriptions here sound pretty interesting, though. Might be time to broaden my horizons. Hope I don't Rhu the day I make that decision.
Also... I'm excited for 4/20, and not just for all of the "Tree" puns I know are coming XD
I’m excited to hear your opinion on the VSO Rhubarb. I have had that on my list for a minute now. Thanks for what you guys do.
I would like to see Sherbet on the noted list - not the North American sorbet version but the English/Australian tangy white powder version ala sherbet fountain lolly (Candy) as a flavour of the week for Noted please
Wish granted:
It's a bit of a mixed bag on which is frozen vs which is candy, but VT Fizzy Sherbet might be your best bet
We did that along with the American stuff, including flavors such as Chef's Choice Lemon Sherbet, Decadent Vapours Sherbert Lemon, and of course VT Fizzy Sherbet (my absolute favorite of all the flavors named sherbet or sorbet, both the ones that are supposed to be North American frozen dessert stuff and the ones that are trying to mimic English/Australian Pop Rocks and Fun Dip lovechild candy).
I love the idea of rhubarb. I have inw rhubarb, but am still trying to tame it... going to try the ru berry jelly recipe. Wish me luck. Have tried the inw with different custards, but so far it bulldozes everything, even at .5%. Also looking for a good recipe using it or cap rhubarb combined with strawberries, since I like this combo irl.
I've never tasted rhubarb in real life, much less vaping. What's it taste like?!
Lol that flavor pack sounds amazing though! I'd love to win that!!
I LOVE rhubarb so much! I made a comment explaining the texture & taste elsewhere in the thread. I have INW Rhubarb (0.25-0.5%, good but a little overpowering/ heavy imo, realistic-ish tho). Have CAP Rhubarb, haven't SFT'd it. DV Rhubarb Cuddle is pretty good, tastes JUST like INW Rhubarb + DV Cream Anglaise, I love it. I need to revisit VT Rhubarb Compote to SFT, I mixed it with FA Custard Premium & it was pretty good.
Rhubarb is tough. Been working on a Rhubarb & Apple Cider recipe, not there yet but hopefull it will work out someday. Can't wait for you folks to help me with my Rhubarb issues. Do you think pairing with Hibiscus might help it to mellow & play nice?
Definitely depends on which Rhubarb and which hibiscus
I'm thinking VT Rhubarb Comp with WF Hibiscus Candy. Haven't tried it yet, still waiting for the WF HC.
That sounds like it might work. WF Hibiscus Candy, or CAP Hibiscus, with the VT Rhubarb Compote. Just as long as you're not doing something crazy like mixing FLV Rhubarb with FLV Hibiscus, that sounds like a disaster you would regret.
The only rhubarb I have...

Yo Noted Crew, i’m really happy that y’all are giving away the elusive Fruit Pack, and imma let you finish, but rhubarb is fucking disgusting.
You hate all rhubarb done every way?
I don't think I've ever even had Rhubarb on its own. Rhubarb has always been accompanied by strawberry in pies, which is delicious. Oh, there is a bunch of strawberry rhubarb recipes on ATF - Oooh Strawberry Rhubarb Float! Not the flavor I expected to see in my cart today.
I’ve got no idea what a rhubarb is. But I read maybe a year ago that a Japanese lady living in Australia made Umeboshi using Rhubarb as a substitute and says it’s just as good as what she had growing up, I believe her but I have no proof. Umeboshi is just a pickled plum, super delicious, sour and sweet. And apparently rhubarb has the same texture. .If you care
Love me some rhubarb. The only one I have right now is INW which I bought because of this recipe posted by JohnLaCuenta in a comment 4 years ago.
You won the flavor pack!
