I've got about 30 flavors now and started making my own mixes - but finding it hard to get a fresh coil to test the juice as it is without previous residue. I've got two tanks and I bought a few RBA coils for my smok prince v12 but im having trouble doing it perfectly and it always burns. Until I get the RBA working, I'm running premade coils under water then letting them dry for a few days but then I can only test a new mix every few days or so. Is there any better way to get fresh vape tests?
When I'm mixing a experimental juice - is it ok to leave out the nicotine before steeping? I've had to dump some bottles with nic added, but am thinking I can just add it at the end once I'm ready to actually vape it. Does anyone disagree that nic is not part of the steeping process or that it would change the flavor enough at about 6% to make a difference?
Also the $20 digital scale I bought from River Supply with my nic seems to be junk. I frequently find that I'll need a tiny amount so I'll drop a few drops and the tared count sits at 0.00. So I'll drop a few more and still 0.00, then I'll drop a few more and now it will go to 0.04 or something, but I know I've put 8 drops in. Otherwise it seems reliable, its just a gamble if its going to measure in very small amounts or not right after a tare. Is this normal behavior for digital scales or is there a recommended one I can buy?
Thanks for any help!
You can't rinse stock coils. It doesn't clean them. They are designed to be disposed of after their time is up.
The RBA decks for the smok tanks are all utter crap. You want an RDA, and RTAs for your tanks.
6% nicotine is 60mg/ml. Did you mean 6mg/ml? Nicotine is not part of the steeping process. You can leave it out if you desire.
The AWS Lb-501 is the top recommended scale for US mixers.
What flavors did you buy? I hope you did not choose them randomly.
Thank you - I dont use them until they are burnt then rinse them, rather I just run otherwise good coils under hot water to get the flavor out then let them dry. I haven't had any issues with it so far.
I'll have to look into the difference with RBA/RDA/RTA and find a new method with this.
I surely meant 6mg/ml. Thanks for the tip!
I'll find and order the scale right away ty
Mostly not random flavors lol, at least almost everything was bought in 10ml and for specific recipies - https://e-liquid-recipes.com/publicstash/227919
Like u/EdibleMalfunction suggested, get a rda or rta to test your recipes. You don't want to rinse new or old coils under hot water and dry them out. Have you ever looked what's in municipal water? Just a few things you'll find are disinfectants, microorganisms, and heavy metals. Not something you want to vape into your lungs.
>at about 6%
6% nic base or 6% nicotine (60mg)? Freebase or Salt?
I'm assuming 6% base. It should not change the overall flavor all that much, but it will affect the ratio. Your flavors will be weaker once you add the nic solution. I usually nic all my 10 ml testers just for the sake of consistency, unless it's a really out there mix that I'm worried I might have to dump. I have no problem hate-vaping mediocre juice :P
I've also had some success with writing the lidless bottle weight on my label and then calculating how many ml are remaining in my batch by weight as I tweak the recipe. You can then use a calculator to add flavors or nic in appropriate portions. Adding .25% to 5 ml is obviously different than adding .25% to 25ml.
>I frequently find that I'll need a tiny amount so I'll drop a few drops and the tared count sits at 0.00. So I'll drop a few more and still 0.00, then I'll drop a few more and now it will go to 0.04 or something
Don't tare when you are only adding a few drops during your initial mix. Stack it on top of a concentrate that has a higher level. Drip your .60g of whatever, then drip the .05g until you hit .65g. If tweaking your recipe after the fact by only a small amount, measuring by drops (while not ideal) is doable. I find most of my drops to be between .018 and .022g so I usually just approximate them at .02
>Until I get the RBA working
An RDA is going to be your best friend when taste testing. You may want to consider picking up a new single coil atty that is easy to re-wick just for this purpose. I've seen the C4 recommended a lot. I'm currently using a Wasp Nano for DL/RDL and a STNG for MTL. If I want to test out of my pod, I'll use one that has a similar profile and vape a couple refills of unjuice
This is all excellent advice - you're a pro - thank you!
I bought a gallon of 100mg/ml freebase from River.
I'm also approximating at 0.02 per drop when I need to measure by sight so that works out. I'm going to pick up that scale mentioned above and hopefully get more accurate, otherwise I'll check out stacking on those tiny amounts.
I've got a lot of work to do to look into the RDA as thats not something I know much about yet. I just bought the only rebuildable that fit in my current tanks by the manufacturer.
Thanks again I truly appreciate it
I just saw the unjuice joke lol. That's better than tap water - good call.
You could always vape some of this?
But seriously... don't, lol. There also used to be a recipe for "Re-rolled Cigarette" on ATF that was thoroughly disgusting, though I think it's since been purged.
For testing flavors I use a Oumier Wasp Nano S RDA, I run a 6 wrap. (24g, stainless 316L wire), single coil. It's generally between .14-.16 ohms @ a 3mm internal diameter. This setup is pretty easy to get good at, and allows you to test out flavors pretty quickly.
LB has a kit with a scale
I can tell you from previous lived experience as well as mixing juice - sometimes scales do that. If they get stuck it can be because a slow change in weight that it's not picking up, or being uneven.Generally I'll just tap lightly on the scale surface and it will jump around and then to the correct weight.
I just ordered a regular scale off amazon (0.01)
Nicotine does carry it's own flavor, I use a heating plate for steeping so I always add it after the initial mix & cool down, but before I let it naturally steep for another week. I think it comes down to preference, but if your nic is suspended in VG it's going to take more time to disperse through the liquid and I'd recommend letting it steep with your juice.
I am not not the most experienced person on this board, and if someone offers different advice i'd listen to theirs, but this has been my experience.
If you want a tiny spot of advice, Ditch the heating plate.
Your otherwise helpful comment is breaking Rule 10
Oops, I totally misread that rule and thought it was links to nicotine products - not vendors that happen to. Thank you for leaving the comment up, edited to remove the link.
Use this for between flavors until the flavor is gone. It's just unflavored base with no concentrates...Adjust to whatever nicotine percentage you want or leave it out...

Just picked up:
Dead Rabbit V2 RDA
Wasp Nano single coil
VapeFly Brunhilde MTL RTA
VV Pulse 2 Squonk box mod
I should be able to get good results from at least 1 of those I think. Looking into scales now
Thanks again!
