EDIT: for anyone reading this after the fact - I was wrong. Turns out, my coil had burnt because I didn't soak it for long enough. I've been vaping unflavoured since this post and it's great.
I tried to find a similar post using the search but all the responses are saying how good flavorless mix is.
I've been wanting to try it for a while and, tbh, I'm definitely a noob, so i bought a nicotine pre-mix of 30PG/70VG ratio 1.5mg. I just wanted to be safe with the pre-mixed because I don't really know what I'm doing.
I tried it and instantly recoiled. It has such a harsh, strong chemical flavor. It tastes like hand sanitizer or something. But so many people have recommended flavorless eliquid to me online, and all the search responses are so positive. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Feeling frustrated and confused and would love some guidance.
I'm using a Smok Nord 2 with an RPM coil, I don't know if that affects it. Did I just buy a bad mix? I can't understand how this would be okay even with flavor.
EDIT: I've just written up to all your helpful comments (I'm on GMT+2) so I'll try to get back to all of you. I'm really blown away by how helpful you guys are and I just want to say a general thank you!
Bad nic. VG tastes okay, kind of a slight sweetness for me. I’d vape it if I had to but I’d rather vape a recipe
>I can't understand how this would be okay even with flavor.
That definitely sounds like you've figured out you have bad mix
But i was thinking maybe the sweetness changes it more than expected or something. Like I said, I'm pretty new to this stuff. I think you have a point though.
VG/PG should have no real flavour, VG has a very mild sweetness to it. Your mix has pretty low nic content so you should only be tasting a bit of cotton if using a fresh coil. The cotton flavour should also disappear fairly quickly.
Unfortunately nobody can really say what went wrong for you. It could be a bad premix, or maybe you've got a coil with some strong cotton taste (it can be kinda bad sometimes).
I would advise putting a tiny drop of your premix on your finger and tasting it. It's completely safe to test a mixed juice this way, but please don't try this with undiluted flavours/nicotine. If it tastes pretty bad you know it was bad premix.
Yeah, you shouldn't really taste much of anything - Other than a bit of sweetness and then maybe some cotton, depending on how fresh your wick is.
I don't understand where the " saying how good flavorless mix is" is coming from - Cause it's not good per se .. just .. alright. Something to vape when you can't taste anything, be it from a cold, vapers tongue or whatever.
PG tastes horrible to me. Chemical bitterness. Try using straight VG. VG tastes sweet. PG leaves a disgusting taste in my mouth.
Did you let your vape hardware sit and wick for a bit after you filled it?
Burning a dry atomizer/coil can be terrible, somewhat similar to lighting the wrong end of a filtered cigarette(in concept if not taste), and that can linger for a long while or just not go away even with a wash or rinse.
It may be that your atomizer/coil comes with some manufacturing/packing residue or pre-applied unknown liquid, I've seen some like this in things I've picked up over the years. In this case you could try a "rinse" with straight vg maybe(drip some in, blow it out, drip some in, blow it out)? I don't recall what I did with strange coils I'd bought.
I've experimented with trying to clean and re-use disposable atomizers but never really found anything that works, most things just make it worse.
It could also just be a bad atomizer. *shrug
The only thing I've done successfully is rinse with VG if switching flavors(running out of one kind of juice before the atomizer is expired from ...well whatever, if it breaks down or it's just baked on residue).
Thanks for the advice! I tried the mix with an older coil/wick and it was fine, which makes me think you're right about the packing residue - nasty stuff. I'm going to try rinse it a few times and hopefully it'll be back to normal.
