As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

What's with all these suggestions for requests? I'll let /u/OdieDoodah Explain.
This is just more of that pear pressure to mix with fruits!
Pear?
I mean .. who hasn't tried DAAPled Pears by u/foment_life ?
It got me using some of the otherwise useless TPA Pear.
Though, I must be honest - Not really my kind of mix. FA Pear is pretty unapologetic though .. Not really good nor bad.
So I journeyed further - Came across MB Shape Up Pear. Definitely one of the best standalone pear flavors. I have yet to mix with it though.
Now .. this isn't really a Pear to me, but CC Pear Drops - That shit is good. Solo at like 6-8% Yes, please. I guess it's kind of a candy pear flavor, but to me there's not much pear flavor .. It's more like .. fizzy sour candy without the fizz. Just some undefined sweetness and that sour fizziness, that's neither fizzy or sour .. but still!
OTHERWISE USELESS!?
These would like a word:
I picked up TPA Pear for Cabin and it is amaze-balls. It might be time to grab the FA and give DAAPled Pears a try. Clouds/Mists of Buddha definitely intrigues me, but I need to pick up all 7 concentrates for Mists. It's on my list, but probably a few months out. Think there's any chance of either of these coming to R7 as OneShots?
Oh Hey Dico!
I'm glad that recipe gained some traction, if only because I really really love the cream base of it. I'd love to re-double my efforts and put together a new/better pear combo to really push it forward.
Really need to get into MB, what king of percentage did you like the Shape Up Pear?
I tried daapled pears and it is pretty good bit not my profile too. Just pretty strong on creaminess
The recipe was, in and of itself, a bit of a pun. The real point was to put together a cream base that could be treated as modular and re-used for other fruit or spice pairings. I've paired it up with blueberries, dark berries, cinnamon/nutmeg, honeydew/lime, cherries, and strawberries myself and haven't found one that didn't work. Some could certainly be made better with a bit more effort than I put into some of those pairings, but that's why they're not all public.
I need to do more with pear, I only have FA and TFA. I like both for their own purposes, but together they're really good. The juiciness of the FA is great, but I don't get a ton of pear flavor from it though. TFA I don't get a ton of juiciness from. I've heard good things about Delosi pear, but I have yet to get it.
I have CC Pear Drops, but its a weak pear. Its a cool flavor though if you want a candied pear you could probably bolster the pearness.
Until recently the only pear in my arsenal has been MB Shapeup Pear. On my last order I added FA Pear and really like the combo of the two.
Another pear has been brought to my attention so the next one to be purchased is WF Ripe Pear.
This is what I am working on right now. The first run had too much FLV Red Burley so the next mix I’m lowering it to this:
- FLV Caramel - 0.75
- FA Pear - 0.75%
- MB Shapeup Pear - 2%
- FLV Red Burley - 0.75%
- WF Tahitian Vanilla Cream - 1.5%
- FW Sweetener - 0.5%
Most mixes I've enjoyed so far use a PEARing of tfa and fa pear together. It gets the job done as a decently rounded pair combo. Any other pears worth picking up?
Flavorah has some really on point flavors that I use on the regular, hopefully Pearesto can fill out some pear recipes better than the traditional combo we all use.
I'm nervous about answering this when I have 7 more pears I haven't tried yet, but of the 15 I have tried, I can tell you that MB Shape Up Pear is really good, it's almost like the TFA + FA thing, but a little better. It’s bold and sweet and juicy and crisp, with a lot of apple-like texture and body, and just a little earthy realism, all well-balanced, smooth, with no off notes for me.
If you're very, very serious about realistic pear and specifically that mealy pear texture, you might also want to check out FLV Pear. I don’t think it is nearly as gross as some people have made it out to be. It mostly just tastes like a pear with just a little bit of a regurgitated pear note, like burping mid-way through eating a pear. That's a little gross, yeah. But it has un-pear-alleled texture when it comes that kind of gritty and crispy mouthfeel that pears and apples have. It’s sweet and natural and not quite juicy but at least moist. If you drop to down to 0.5% or less and mix with strong flavors you can get it to impart that texture without getting that burpy off-note.
Why the combo of both pears, out of curisosity? I usually use TFA only. What does FA add to it?
WF Ripe Pear + MB Shape Up Pear is it. Don’t @ me.
What does the WF Ripe Pear do to improve what MB Shape Up is by itself?
I get more of the skin and natural flavor from Ripe Pear and the juicy, sweetness from Shape Up.
Next time I need a well-rounded pear flavor, I'll give that a try, thanks! I've only used Shape UP Pear in one recipe so far, and it sounds like a little WF Ripe might be an improvement to it.
ApPEARently I need to do more with Pear. I use FA quite a bit for adding wetness, but rarely use it for anything more than that. I recently used INW Prickly Pear and thought that was a pretty interesting flavor. I picked up WF Ripe Pear and MB Shape Up Pear, but haven't used them yet
Hi. Most fruit vapes do not sit well with me, but pears I do enjoy. I‘d really like to mention Cinn‘s journey on finding the perfect pear. Anyone who knows her from the DIY_eJuice discord, knows that she has been obsessed for years and has recently released her recipe AP PEAR ANTLY by Cinn, thus ending her quest. It‘s not a trinity, but perfection!
- 0.25% JF Fuji
- 0.25% FLV Pear
- 1% FW Pear
- 0.5% DF Pear
- 2% MB Shape Up Pear
FA Pear /thread
I'm joking.
But really it's a good pear.
I'm also interested in the SSA Pear, I got it in and it smells great but I haven't been able to SFT or throw it in a mix yet!
And someone sent me some Pear from a company called Magical Flavour, which smells amazing but again I haven't yet tried it out. Good thing too because I probably couldn't get anymore if it was excellent anyway.
Also, F yeah, Mixman on Noted! Can't wait!
I have 22 pears this time around, up from 15 the last time pear was the FOTW. Can't wait to point out all their impearfections for you!
https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/share/72027de3-8f09-4291-b166-d88d6e46eb0a
I mixed this up a few days ago and want it to steep, but I just can't let it. I love pear vapes too much.
I'm nearly pear blind, I tried couple of recipes with higher % in pear but couldn't get that authentic RL Pear.
Weird. What do these pear flavors taste like to you? Just nothing?
I am really interested in your description of the WF ripe pear u/ID10-T. I just got it in for the All day 2.0 and I love it.
Hmmm, the first All Day was already great, now I have to try All Day 2.0
WF Ripe Pear is a great flavor.
WF Ripe Pear 3% - The word “ripe” in the name scared me a little, after trying their ripe butthole melon, but it turns out to be a pretty nice little pear. It’s ripe in the sense of being soft and sweet rather than crisp and bright, but not funky and weird. It tastes like it might hide a bit in a mix and need another pear for a pear-forward recipe, but it’s soft enough to probably get bent into a filling out a cooked pear or being part of a fruit juice beverage similar to the way apple juice is used to fill out a lot of juice drinks.
I'll try it again this week to more properly com-pear it to other pears, maybe I'll bump it up to 4% and see if it gets a little bolder?
I have used it in a recipe already: https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/197407#nashi_pear_2020_by_id10_t
Your Nashi Pear 2020 is already great of the shake. I am normally not a fan of any floral notes, but this turns out nicely. I can’t wait to taste it when it got some time to settle. Well done.
Oh wow, that was fast! I'm glad you like it. I hope you read in the description that it was meant to be a more softly flavored, pleasant, ADV-able recipe and not something to just whack you in the face with flavor. I was almost afraid to share it because I thought people might miss that and be disappointed.
Ohoho, pear flavor is kext in my list for research. Yes I am done with lychee for some time. Made one for mixers club With TFA Pear and FA Pear. They are pretty good together though I can agree that FA pear alone can be a bit non existent. It is not particularly strong flavor but it gives a nice juiciness. i used tfa Pear at 5% and Fa pear at 2%, it is pretty high but I wanted this artificial pear taste for a lemonade.
I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned INW Pear. At first I loved this one, but eventually the slight floral edge began to make me feel a bit nauseous For some reason. Here is ConcreteRiver‘s expert review. In any case, I all but abandoned INW after discovering MB Shape Up Pear (which is realistic and delicious). TFA Pear is also pretty great, but to me it tastes more like an apple/pear combo.
Came here to specifically see if anyone had mentioned u/Foment_life's DAAPled Pears. Been digging SSA Ripe Pear and MB Shape Up Pear, as well.
I need to really dig into some of the pears I didn't have at the time and see if there's room/reason to change the pears in there.
Any thoughts?
I agree with what u/ID10-T said below . . . Shape Up could probably take the place of the TFA/FA combo (though I have not tried it with your recipe). I'm going to try the MB/SSA combo and throw some coconut and cake at it!
Hey, this is perfect, I'm just learning Pear! Started as I think everyone does with trying to clone Snake Oil, before DIY I vaped Seduce Juice (I'd kill for the Fruition recipe haha...it was them, then Casey Jones Reserve when he first started, and then ItCVapes, then DIY), so here's what I have, it was labeled 1.0 with the Notes section saying "Take notes this time dummy", so any feedback or tweaks appreciated!
Bavarian Cream (TPA) 3.00%
Coconut (Flavorah)0.40%
Cotton Candy (10% EM/Ethyl Maltol) (TPA) 0.50%
Pear (FA) 3.25%
Pear (TPA) 1.75%
Sweet Coconut (Flavorah) 0.5%
So yeah, I'm a little old school (read:behind the times on new flavors), I like using EM instead of Sweetener where I can, but I do have some...when it comes to Pear, I can't think of much else besides Coconut to mix with it. /u/Foment_life's DAAPappled Pear was amazing too (edit-though I did have to substitute some stuff, didn't have LB or any more INW Custard, so it's not truly DAAPapled Pears, but it's a great recipe, will pick up the rest on my next flavor order)....Any tips or recommendations appreciated!
I'm glad you liked DAAPled pears!
You might be able to take something like FA liquid Amber alongside some of the FA/TFA and/or MB shape up Pears and get a nice baked pear kind of thing going that you could pair with a flakey bakery like WF croissant, or you could use pears as part of a broader fruit medley to emulate a big can of fruit cocktail.
Aha, thank you for reminding me I need some Liquid Amber! Next order I'm going full blown new flavors, I basically haven't tried a new company since FLV or INW (told ya I was behind the times lol), so gonna be lots of MB, WF, SB etc etc. I'm all about bakeries/desserts so I'm gonna give the baked pear profile a go. Thanks for the tips, and the amazing public recipes!
What is Pearesto supposed to be?
It's just a pear that's isn't weird like the original FLV Pear. I think the name might be a pun... like "Presto!" only instead it's "Pearesto!"
Okay, so I do love pears, but I always find pear flavors to taste more tart than the real thing. Likely trying to incorporate the skin flavor? I dunno. Can you all suggest a pear flavor or two to try for a newbie mixer? Also, I'm not very imaginative... Can anyone recommend something from my flavors to try mixing it with?
Is that Honeydew that says FA actually TFA/TPA (same thing)?
Ahh, yes it is. Let me update that.
Now I wonder if the Dragonfruit is is really FA or if it's actually TFA/TPA.
But regardless, you definitely want to pick up FA Pear, because you could mix that a little of that with anything you have and just make a juicier, sweeter recipe. There are better pears out there (MB Shape Up Pear, WF Ripe Pear) but for a very new mixer, I think it might be better to pick up TFA/TPA Pear, because there are a lot of recipes out there you can try with it or examples of how to use it. Just remember to let recipes with it steep for a bit (5 days should be sufficient).
If I had only those to pears plus the rest of your stash, I'd be doing a lot of TFA Pear/Honeydew/Strawberry combinations because those tend to work really well. I'd also try replacing the Strawberry in that with Peach and see how I liked that. Also try replacing it with Cantaloupe.
I'd be building a lot of combinations around WF Sour Watermelon Candy as well, and probably adding 1% FA Pear to all of those for that lovely sweet juicy quality. Sour Watermelon + other watermelons. Sour Watermelon + Strawberries. + Sour Watermelon + other melons.
I have a couple of pears (fa included), and for me, they all lack body. Same thing with peaches. Any advice?
FA Pear definitely lacks body. Which other pears are and which peaches are you having trouble with?
So here are pears and peaches i've tried, that imo lack body:
- hs juicy peach
- cap juicy peach
- inw peach
- tpa peach

- fa pear
- inw pear
- mb shape up pear
i have also found a flavor in my stash that i haven't tried before - tpa pear candy, so gonna give it a try.
I think you might be a little different, which is normal, people's sensory systems respond differently to different stimuli. I say that mostly because INW Peach doesn't seem to lack body to me at all. But two things you might try: Backing up Peaches with an Apricot flavor. FA Apricot if you need a more natural peach, TFA Apricot for a candied one. If you're going for a cooked peach, you might even try a little CAP Sweet Mango.
For the pears, try FLV Pear. But go easy on it, definitely don't want to go over 0.5%, maybe 0.75% depending on your setup. Or back it up with an apple if you have an apple that doesn't seem to lack body for you.
Any suggestions on an RY4 Pear? I see a lot of candied pear recipes and a few Caramel Pears, but didn't stumble on any RY4/Pear combos in a quick ATF perusal.
Maybe sub a portion of the caramel with RY4...
Yeah, if no one has any specific suggestions I'll probably play around with Ed's Pearabola dropping in some JF or TPA RY4 Double
I love me some pears , IRL and in DIY

TPA Pear Juicy
Juices everything up, great mixer/blender but not stand alone. Not a whole lot of body, but does have some weight to it

FA Peach White
This is a weird one, it's more of a wild pear and not a regular pear you'll find at the grocery store. Has more of a stonefruit property to it then mealy or juicy imho.

FA Pear
Pretty much the go-to pear for a lot of mixer, rightfully so.Has juice and body, and some skin. Good.

TPA Pear
I bought it once for fun, but i believe it sucked.Didnt take notes, but i believe it was a bit too plastic-y

SSA Ripe Pear
Winner winner pear dinner. Pair this with the next one to complete it.Lacks a bit of mealy body but so fresh, so sweet, so juicy and a good amount of skin. Love it!

MB Shape Up Pear
Mealy body of a pear, perfect to add to a fruit mix to body it up and still remain a fruit type vape. It does have a little weirdness to it for me, but that is fixed with either TFA Juicy Pear if you want to water your mouth, or SSA Ripe Pear if you want a full on fresh realistic pear with more body. Love it in a combo!
Looking forward to this episode and liked the Sorbet episode. I have been pronouncing it Sherbert my whole life haha. I picked up MB Shape Up Pear and its tasty but has some weirdness for me. Maybe I just need to lower it a bit or mix it with a cream to take away the harsh note I get at the end. Not a deal breaker, but it keeps it from being something I can vape all day.
I'd like to make a request though. With all the new people who are coming into DIY because of the shipping ban I would really like to see a Noted episode dedicated exclusively to flavors that can be used as stand-alone flavors or flavors that are marketed as a stand alone flavor mixes. The FA Pazzo line comes to mind. Rivers has a bunch of supposedly stand alone flavors too. I am sure with the many, many years you guys have been single flavor testing that nobody would know better than you guys what flavors work this way. I think that would really help new people if they could have at least a handful of flavors in their first order that can stand alone. It would help them get through that steeping period lots of recipes have and also give them a little confidence that "hey look I picked this up, I mixed it all together and this isn't daunting." I think it should be put ahead of a lot of the other things on the schedule too if possible because they're going to be needing this list sooner than later.
> flavors that can be used as stand-alone flavors
That's very subjective.
> flavors that are marketed as a stand alone flavor mixes
That's an incredible number of flavors, more than anyone could cover in an hour.
But back to the first one... that's not really what FOTW (or Noted) does. BUT, I see what you mean about the potential benefit of such a thing.
What if I promise to spend some time this week going through all the notes I have of all the 2000 flavors I've ever tried and write up a post about the ones that I think are good enough to vape standalone? And then all the people who comment on that will tell me how wrong I am this or that flavor, or how they think I should have included these other flavors, and in the end you'll have a great resource of lots of different opinions for people who just want to vape one flavor?
As soon as I commented I realised how difficult of a request this is. Thank you for considering it how this could work out. I by no means thought it would follow the traditional Noted format of you guys having to buy a million flavors and test them all. I just thought maybe since you guys have been doing it so long you might already have the foundations in your notes of what you guys have tried and what's worth it and what's not worth it.
Everyone who finds their way here usually gets told that these are the must-haves flavors to order and then people might comment a few additional flavors to get. If you look over that list now(first order flavors) there are definitely better choices for a lot of those flavors. So what I thought would be nice if there could be a list of say 10 flavors or flavor mixes(2 bakery, 2 fruit, etc) that should get them decent results if they brought those alongside all the other stuff. Since it was my suggestion and I know it is a ton of extra work , please let me know if there's any way at all I can help. If I haven't said it lately, thanks for all you do.
The first order flavors are pretty outdated. Last time there was a lot of complaining about the results of trying to do that democratically. There has to be a better way to do that, but I don’t know what it is, since there isn’t a consensus on what they should be.
Have you tried pearesto yet? If so, initial thoughts?
I had hoped a new FLV pear flavor would be a lot like the original FLV Pear, especially with that mealy pear texture, but minus the barfy off note. Pearesto is not quite the same mealy pear body, but I did get a deep, natural, juicy pear, with some of that quality. Top notes get a little weird at higher concentration (3%) in a unique way - not quite floral, not quite grassy, not quite nail polish remover, but some combination of all of that. But re-diluting that to around 1.5% it’s just a great authentic pear flavor. Tasting natural, it lacks the punch of some of the less authentic more candy pear flavors, but one of those could be added to a mix if it needed more oomph. Bout to try it again at 2% and see if it's a little bolder than 1.5% but still free of weird off-notes. I really like the depth on it and natural-type flavor.
Will WF Zapote also be covered in the Episode?
That is not a pear. Does it taste like pear? (I haven’t tried it)
I have only read about it. It’s supposed to taste like a sugar coated pear. I pulled the trigger to my BCF order and added it. If I get it in time I will share my initial thoughts.
And WF Ripe Pear + MB Shape Up Pear. PEARESTO Sounds interesting though
Pears for me (so far) are sweet juicy fillers... Not so much a main note (although I should try)
Ingredient|% :---|---: Honey (Flavormonks)|0.25 Mango Indian Special (FA)|2.50 Marshmallow (TPA)|2.00 Nectarine (TPA)|3.25 Peach (Pesca) (FA)|1.00 Peach, White (Pesca Bianca) (FA)|1.25 Pear (TPA)|2.00 Sweetener (Sucralose) (FW)|0.75
Flavor total: 13%
I haven't messed with the pears lately. But I need to soon before they become too old to use. I did have se good results using purilum country apple low to help make FA pear and tpa pear seem a little more cooked pear for a pear custard I eventually gave up on. Mainly gave up because I went on a ry4 kick
Pear is an odd one for me. I never bought pear liquids before mixing, but I picked up tpa pear and can see it being mouth wateringly gobble gobblish in a recipe but I don't think I have the necessary ingredients to back that b*tch up. Tried it with a touch if FA fuji and that is nice, but doesn't seem to fit bakery pear.
I just started mixing my own juice a little over a month ago, and am currently vaping a mix of TFA Pear, TFA Coconut, and TFA Bavarian Cream. I'm not going to share that recipe because it's old, and like 15% flavoring... I still like it though.
Excited for this flavor of the week though, pear is my favorite fruit, and now I've got another 6 recipes I need to try.
Pear of Aces by u/EdibleMalfunction works in a pod/mtl. 6% is a little high for me dtl but meh dtl is a little high for me too ;)
