PART 2:

Noted Ep. 186: CANTALOUPE (ft. SteveTC)

FLV Wild Melon: Like a bowl of mixed melon balls. Only has a little hint of cantaloupe. Tastes roughly like 50% honeydew, 35% watermelon, 15% cantaloupe. Juicy and pretty refreshing. Manages to be juicy without compromising on sweetness. Has a candied sweetness. Tasty as a SF. Can be used as the only melon note in a recipe. Will show up as a melon note that tastes like a generic melon. Looses some of the nuance when in a mix. As a SF can taste the individual melons. Tastes natural whilst also being very candied. Makes it versatile. Can use it in a candied recipe or a natural fruit recipe. Sam thought it had a bit of a wild fruit quality. Different to the candied melon flavours and the natural ones. Can use from 0.5% up to 3%.

40.39

SSA Melon, FLV Wild Melon and CAP Hibiscus would be a tasty combo.

CAP Cantaloupe: Doesn't really taste much like cantaloupe. More generic melon. No rind. A bit like a candy that is called cantaloupe, but doesn't really taste like an actual cantaloupe. Tastes orange. But has a thick, sweet, syrupy body. Useful even if not used as a cantaloupe for the generic, thick, fruity body. For example could be used as a base for a mango or orange recipe. But can also be used as a base for other melons. Even if you don't like cantaloupe it's worth having. SteveTC even used it in a donut recipe.

45.02

INW Melon: More wild melon than cantaloupe. Honeydew, cantaloupe mix with a watermelon flesh. Very present top note and body. Sam got pink watermelon flesh with more of a honeydew/cantaloupe rind. A little more rind-y than FLV Cantaloupe. Really good. Could be really useful as a honeydew/cantaloupe mix or bridge. A lot more present and brighter then some others discussed this week. Sam tested at 2%

48.07

VSO Cantaloupe: Really good. A lighter flavour. Very soft and base-y. Needs another flavour to fill in the top note for a full cantaloupe. Sam would pair it with FLV Cantaloupe. But will work alone if you just need a cantaloupe base note. Very natural. Extremely authentic. Got some juiciness, but could do with more. ID10-T wants to try it in a melon mix with some other natural and more juicy melons. ID10-T tested at 2.5%. May need to be a little higher? Sam tested at 3%

50.04

Swaggy Shane from VSO recommends using VSO flavours at around 2%. But depending on your preference you may want to use them a bit higher or lower.

VSO Meter Made Melon: Supposed to be a one shot. Honeydew, cantaloupe and kiwi mix. All elements were present. Tasted like it was roughly 30% cantaloupe, 45% honeydew and 25% kiwi. Fairly soft overall, except for the kiwi. Really natural sweetness. Very accurate. The best part was the kiwi. Tart kiwi top note. The kiwi note is VSO Kiwi. Worth getting as an individual flavour as it is so good. ID10-T tested at 14%

51.56

Cucumber Melon Kiwi - Flavor Chaser Oneshot by Emily: Good balance of cucumber, sweet melon and kiwi. Refreshing. Not candied. But sweet. Not super authentic either. Tastes kind of like a like a beverage with real fruit in it.

54.37

MF (Medicine Flower) Cantaloupe: Tastes a little bit like a distilled version of FLV Cantaloupe. Slight, nice perfume-y note that is accurate to a cantaloupe. Light texture, a little creaminess, slight sweetness. But lacks body. Otherwise it's great. SteveTC tested at 2%. Steeped over a week.

56.20

MF Black Cherry is a really great black cherry.

Some MF flavours have a perfume-y note that needs to be steeped out.

FLV Cantaloupe: Ripe and authentic. The juiciest and the most present. Not overly sweet. Has the most natural rind note. Not soft, but mellow. Even though it doesn't have a really punchy flavour it will definitely show up in a recipe. If you wanted to hide it in a mix for some reason you probably couldn't. Definitely has the best mouthfeel. Very, very juicy. Very thick and kind of creamy like a ripe cantaloupe.

PART 1:

Noted Ep. 186: CANTALOUPE (ft. SteveTC)

(Episode aired 19th January 2021)

(Ranked worst to first)

HC (Health Cabin) Cantaloupe: Hairspray off note. Not a great cantaloupe flavour either. An indistinct orange-ish melon. Then some syrupy sweetness. A little harsh. ID10-T tested at 1.5%. Might have been too high? Some HC flavours are very potent.

8.48

HC (Health Cabin) Malaysia Cantaloupe: Same hairspray off note as HC Cantaloupe. A little harsh. The cantaloupe flavour tastes almost identical as HC Cantaloupe. But HC MC it's a lot more intense and deeper. They might even be the same concentrate? Difference in flavour may have just been because one concentrate was older than the other?

9.53

FR (Flavor Revolution) Cantaloupe: Pretty gross. Spoiled vanilla melon milk. Some out of place vanilla notes. Tangy-ness that really comes across as spoiled milk. Maybe they were going for a a funky ripe note, and ended up with spoiled, blatantly dairy, milk. Also not a very authentic cantaloupe underneath that spoiled vanilla milk. Just not good. ID10-T tested at 2% and 3%.

11.42

FW Cantaloupe: Not good. Nail polish. Very sweet. Clearly melon. But has a medicinal, nail polish off note that runs all the way through it.

13.32

Mr Good Vape Melon Head (One Shot): ID10-T and Emily didn't like it much. A bit bland, not very flavourful. A bit thin. Has some body, but not much. Kind of flat. Sweet because it's a commercial style one shot. (available at Liquid Barn)

15.13

Grimberry Farms Melon Balls: One of the brightest cantaloupes SteveTC tried this week. But it's thin and there's berry notes in the background that can take over. Berry could be covered in a mix. But it's missing some body.

16.24

My Melon Balls by Kittybit (ATF) If you want melon balls mix this instead of GF Melon Balls. Uses WF Sour Ball Candy to give it a bit of a sour edge.

17.04

FA Melon Cantaloupe: Similar to other FA fruits in that it's more on the authentic side, but also a bit thinner, dryer. Wasn't super present. More of a base note. More of a natural cantaloupe, but a bit under ripe. Underneath that there's a bit of a melon ring candy type note. A rind-y cantaloupe on a candy base. Neither element is very punchy. Has some sweetness which is probably contributing to the candy feel. Sam has used it in recipes. Mixed with CAP Cantaloupe it tones the candy aspect in CAP down a bit. ID10-T tested at 1.5% and 2%. Sam and Emily tested at 2%.

17.39

Mango Melon Chew by Juicefairy (ATF) An excellent recipe that uses FA Melon Cantaloupe.

18.53

TFA Cantaloupe: Emily loves it, just not as a cantaloupe. Thought it tastes like bubblegum. Powdery texture like bubblegum. Sam thought it was like powdery melon flavoured kids medicine. But not overly offensive. Not medicinal tasting. Although more orange than melon. ID10-T thought it definitely didn't taste like cantaloupe. Some kind of melon, but not clearly a cantaloupe. Sweet, full bodied base. But he gets a weird funky-ness right in the middle. Like a bad, funky melon candy. SteveTC got a similar kids medicinal feel as Sam. Got some sort of weird off note. But it works well in a lot of recipes. Emily tested at 3%. Sam and SteveTC tested at 5%.

19.26

Nic Vape Cantaloupe: Indistinct orange tasting, candy-ish melon. Bright, sweet, candy type flavour. Oddly powdery and kind of chalky candy body. Like a melon Fun Dip.

21.52

NF (Nature's Flavors) Cantaloupe (aka NF Organic Cantaloupe): Really tastes like a sweet, natural cantaloupe. But has soft floral quality throughout that makes it almost soapy. But not like dish soap. More like the floral note an unripe, crunchy cantaloupe has. Not a perfume-y floral. Much sweeter than an under-ripe cantaloupe though. Not bad, just slightly off. Would probably work in a recipe. Not juicy, but not dry either. ID10-T tested at 3.5%. May have used too high? Could be better at a lower %?

23.15

A lot of the cantaloupe flavours tested this week lacked juiciness or were dry.

LA Melon: Full bodied. Not purely cantaloupe. Juicy and mouthwatering. No high note, no sweetness. But could be a good additive to other melons to make them more juicy. Especially as so many cantaloupe flavours tested this week were so dry.

25.59

PUR Melon Patch: Sweet and candied. But also has a funky note that isn't unpleasant. Has a bit of an identity crisis. Candy, but with natural qualities. Musty, in a good way. But also has some candy sweetness. Emily thought it was good, but not great. Thought funky note made it more interesting. But some people may not like it because of that funky-ness.

27.32

WF Ripe Galia Melon: Galia melons look like a cantaloupe on the outside. But tastes like a mix of cantaloupe and honeydew. WF RGM tastes very ripe. ID10-T thought it tastes like eating ripe melon off a clean butthole. Has a really musky note. Different to tropical fruit type musky-ness. Makes it taste very ripe. Very sweet, especially on the finish. Not particularly juicy, but not dry either. Would probably work really well at a low % to give a more realistic, ripeness to other cantaloupe or honeydew flavours. Maybe could work with other fruits that aren't melon? SteveTC thought it was a great flavour. It's different. Almost over-ripe. Found it to be mouth watering. He's tried mixing it with lemonade. Worked great. The lemon subdued the musky-ness.

28.46

CAP Cantaloupe V2: No vomit/ butiric off notes like V2 flavours can have. Doesn't taste like a cantaloupe. It's a bright, forward, generic melon candy. Very melon-y without being a distinct type of melon. More like a candy yellow watermelon flavour. Very sweet. A bit top heavy with a sweet, bland and somewhat dry base. Taste fake, but not in a bad way. Tastes like a the melon part of a mango melon Starburst. Would just need to find the right mango, which could be a bit tricky (maybe FLV Mango?) and some TFA Vanilla Swirl to thicken it up.

33.28

FR (Flavor Revolution) Strawberry Cantaloupe: Different cantaloupe note to that in FR Cantaloupe. No spoiled milk note. Tastes like JF Sweet Strawberry with a not quite authentic cantaloupe behind it. Blatantly candied strawberry. Melon like a sweet, candied take on a canary melon/cantaloupe/honeydew hybrid. Creamy, taffy-ish mouthfeel. Tested at 2% and 2.5% and the taffy-like mouthfeel really filled in at 2.5%. Pleasant to vape as a SF. Would work in anything the combines strawberry and melon and that isn't supposed to be realistic/natural. Eg. a Starburst mix. ID10-T tested at 2% and 2.5%.

36.18

SSA (Sobucky Super Aroma) Melon: Not specifically cantaloupe. One of the few melons that are more natural, not candied. Not rind-y. Very flavourful and bold. Nicely ripe but not too funky. Not very juicy. Strange to have such a sweet, authentic, bold melon and it be a little dry. But can add to it to make it juicier. A touch of FLV Wild Melon or CAP Hibiscus. Maybe FA Pear. Depending what recipe you're making maybe INW Cactus? But you'd have to be very careful and sparing with it.
