Hello everyone as the title says i am new here and about to finnally venture into the wonderful world of DIY! I have been doing the lurking thing and appreciate all the good information you all post here. I have also been doing plenty of non lurking research online and getting a good idea of what i want, proper mixing and how i want to set myself up.
I have taken reccomendations and been playing around on diy sites. Mostly nicotine river which i plan to make my first purchase. I predominantly vape tobaccoo, vanilla, caramel, cream and custards but i am not opposed to a good fruit vape by any means.
After extensive browsing and indecision, i have a cart full of prefered flavors. Before i pull the trigger i wanted to ask you guys if there are any flavor companies that are highly unreccomened? Like any company that just consistently has garbage flavorings and should be avoided at all costs? Is the quality just hit and miss depending on the specific flavor between varying brands?
I mainly have Capella, TFA, Purlium, Euro and Hangsen. With a couple Flavor West and River brand in my cart. Sorry for the lengthy post. I just wanted to give a back story and be thorough. Thanks in advance for any input and reccomendations, i greatly appreciate it.
Are you buying flavors just based on what sounds good? If so, don't do that! Find good RECIPES and base your flavor orders on those. Good vape juices are like food recipes. You can cook a piece of chicken and it is just fine, but add the right seasonings and spices and it goes from good to amazing. You can mix willy nilly but it definitely won't be as good as it could be.
I recommend checking out the Discord server posted here. Tons of good folks that know their stuff and will check your order before you pull the trigger, and will get you set up with good recipes too!
This. DO NOT buy flavors at random
Good to know, i was just planning on getting stuff i knew i liked and playing around with ratios based of which flavor i wanted to stand out the most with hints of this and that. I appreciate the suggestions, you guys just saved me alot of trial, error and money.
Thanks for your input and suggestions, that makes perfect sense! Yes that is basically what i had intended to do. I was just looking at basic flavors for simple combinations that i thought i would enjoy. I have seen some RECIPES here and there but never could settle on something i thought sounded amazing.
What you said makes alot of sense i do cook alot and a tried and true recipe is alot better than just winging it. I just joined the Discord server earlier today actually. Any reccomendations for recipe databases? I see you guys share alot of good sounding juices regularly
https://alltheflavors.com/ is a great starting point. I have two people whose recipes I'm very fond of, I hope they don't mind me plugging their recipe books:
https://alltheflavors.com/users/Wolfwheeler
Wolf's Inosuke is the best thing I have ever tasted, even non vape juice, and I say that with no exaggeration
https://alltheflavors.com/users/Foment_life
Foment's Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon was the only thing I vaped for a month straight, absolutely incredible juice, and I'm not usually a fruit vape fan.
Another user who gets tons of love is ID10-T,though I've never tried any of their recipes.

Hope that helps!
Thanks so much, that is awesome and very helpful! I will definatly check those out right now. I hope they dont mind either because i can't wait to mix some up and try them out!
Great info and thank you kindly. I will do more research and get some recipes in mind before i buy abunch of flavors! I already ordered nicotine and bases but was waiting on the flavors. Glad i did. 👍
While it is important to get a decent base of flavours that are used in some common recipes that you find appealing, I also think it's worthwhile to grab some random flavours if they sound good to you and you're willing to experiment. For example, since you like tobacco, it's a safe bet to pick up several tobacco varieties, custards, creams and caramels. There's a pretty good chance you'll find a use for all of them. If your budget is tight, go for 3ml samplers.
I use nic salts and I like mellowed fruit flavours, so I grabbed a wide variety of different fruits and creams for mixing. A few were for specific recipes, but the majority were not. I have not been disappointed with any of them.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for your input and suggestions, i greatly appreciate it. That is the route that i had planned on going. Starting with simple flavor combinations that i know i like and balancing ratios of flavornotes.I was looking into certain fruit flavors to spruce up some existing juice i have that is lacking in flavor.
There has been alot of great suggestions and information from this community. I now plan on doing more research and find some tried and true recipes, while also experimenting with my own basic tobacco and flavor combos.
You say you use nic salts, do you mix with smooth salts or hit salts? I enjoy some salts here and there for a quick hit or 2 but sometimes the buzz can be overwhelming as i enjoy vaping frequently. I currently vape 6mg freebase on subohm RDAs and coil pod systems and find that i am desiring more throat hit. I don't really want to raise my nic levels any higher if i can help it. I have read about "byte extra" (i believe it's called) as a additive, any experience with that by chance?
No problem! The whole thing can be a bit intimidating at first, but as long as you approach it with the right attitude it can lead to a fun little hobby.
I use nicotine benzoate, so technically "hit" salts, as I believe the "smooth" salts are nicotine salicylate. I was a 20+ year smoker, and then 3 years with a JUUL (mango), so I do prefer a strong throat hit.
I prefer low wattage pod devices, as they are far more discreet for both home and work, and require the least amount of maintenance. Currently vaping 50-60mg/ml and experimenting with blends of salt and freebase to zero in on the throat hit I crave.
I haven't heard of the byte extra, so I can't comment on that one unfortunately. Are you looking for a throat hit additive like FA's Flash? That seems to be the go-to around here. Cooling agents can help too. I've never been a fan of menthol or ice flavours unfortunately so that leaves me with just tightening the airflow and blending with freebase.
Wow that is awesome information regarding my question. Thanks alot! Congratulations on getting off them nasty 🚬. That is huge!! I have smoked for 13 years, since i was 16. I just recently hit my 5 months sober from alcohol and marijuana and figured i would kick the butt as well. I'm on day 36 smoke free
I have tried many times in the past to quit but couldnt seem to. I believe alcohol was the main thing holding me back from being successful. Ironically as a ex menthol smoker i cannot stand menthol or ice ejuice, its just not for me. So i haven't been interested in trying the cooling agents for throat hit although i have heard thats a good way to increase throat hit.
I have read abit about flash and have kinda been unsure about it, some people say its more like a pepper heat burn? Idk, to each their own. I might give it a try or dabble with some hit salts for my low ohm pod devices, i love my geekvape frenzy since the day i got it that's my go to for work or quick low cloud pokes around the house.
My bad, lol. The stuff i was referring to is "BiteXtra" its made my Flavour Art Uk. It says they designed it specifically for 0% nicotine vapers who desire a strong throat hit. I'm intruiged for sure and will probably try to find that before i order the flash
Congratulations - once you get some recipes you like you'll be completely hooked.
However - i WOULD recommend picking a few recepies that are well known and respected and making sure you have the ingredients for them, not just a bunch of random stuff. Borrow a little from those who've gone before till you get your own palate up to speed and start creating your own recipes.
Thanks for your input and suggestions, i greatly appreciate it! I am currently browsing on ATF for recipes that i think i would like. I am finding alot of wild and tasty sounding flavor combinations.
I had initially planned on just getting a few basic things to make tobacco flavors and playing with ratios of sidenotes. Also was looking for some simple fruit flavors to spruce up some juices i already have that seem to be lacking in the flavor department.
Appreciate the warm welcome and knowledge. Happy vaping!
you as well. tobacco isn't my specialty but i have a few tried and true fruits that only have a few ingredients, so if you want any suggestions let me know. But i'm sure you'll find your way - it's pretty crazy when you get into it how much fun it is and how often you'll see a recipe and know what it'll taste like (or should anyway :) ) with the ingredients once you get familiar.
Best of luck and we're always here if you need us.
I am very excited to experiment and get the feel for things. I love cooking, tweaking recipes and coming up with new combinations of flavors to accent each other. I also mix some mean cocktails even though i quit drinking😂. So i think like i will enjoy diy for sure.
Thanks again for all the encouragement, knowledge and support. It means alot to me and i greatly appreciate it! You guys are a amazing community. I'm glad i finnaly posted to the sub and making the jump to diy!
If you're in the US - stock up now on base nic.
Shipping is about to get a lot more expensive as pretty soon USPS and FedEx won't ship nicotine-related products moving forward.
Flavoring and PG/VG won't be impacted as Bull City (and I'm sure other places) are selling flavorings only, no nicotine and can still ship USPS. PG/VG is widely available.
Thanks man, good looking out on that suggestion. I have been paying attention to the upcoming mail ban and preparing accordingly. I have decided to wait on flavors and straight base for the time being. I am invested and focusing on nic stock and supply.
I had recently found a clearance sale on ejuice and stocked up on like 50, 100ml bottles of premade. Plus all of my open bottles and random unopened i have around, hibernating in a dark cool place. 😊
