NOTES FOR WEEK 2
A clarification - Even though the Flavor Note Thread is taking over the spot of the Former SFT Thread, it is different. While SFT's were primarily for new flavors you were testing - Flavor Notes are for flavors you know well. Think of Flavor Notes as a condensed form of a Flavor Review. I'm sure that almost everyone reading this has a handful of flavors that they work with all the time. And posting your notes on them should be rather easy.
Don't worry about how many reviews a flavor already has - we don't have YOUR opinion of it. With just one week under its belt, the Flavor Note Thread has already generated a difference of opinion. Check out the opposing views on WF Strawberry Cheesecake. Comparing notes from different mixers will let you see how the standardized format makes life easier.
The winner for Week 1 will be drawn this Monday on Noted (1/18 10pm Eastern)

No description from BCF/Vanilla Custard -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 ⚪ VERY CLOSE TO EXPECTATIONS
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
Creamy vanilla with a background note that reminds me of hazelnut. After 24 hours the vanilla cream comes forward and really doesn't change a whole lot between day 2 and 2 weeks+
Average use 2% in a mix
🔹 Comments 🔹
I asked for a free sample from BCF and this is what they sent. It surprised me with not only how tasty it is after virtually no steep but also with how stable it is in a mix over time. I've used it in mixes as an INW Custard sub and it has performed spectacularly at 2/3 the usage rate in comparison.
Gratuitous mix using it:
- CAP Sugar Cookie 4%
- FW Butter Pecan 2%
- SC Vanilla Custard 1%
- TFA Vanilla Bean Icecream 1%
- OOO Butter Pecan Icecream 1%

TARGET FLAVOR
(from FLV) Clear boysenberry notes. Great for mixing with fruits, or with bakery flavors for a jam filling. -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 ⚪ VERY CLOSE TO EXPECTATIONS
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
I've haven't had boysenberries often enough to have a clear idea of the taste. The flavor of the vape is definitely a sweet dark berry of some sort - and it's a very tasty flavor. It's bright and sweet with a little tartness and no noticeable floral notes. The texture is thick and sticky at higher percentages. The sweetness pushes this more toward the candy side but it could be used to bolster the sweetness in a more natural berry without interfering.
🔹 Comments 🔹
If you're a fan of berries, this should be in your stash. Works great as the only berry or supporting other berries. I like to add a bit of Liquid Amber and some spices for a cooked berry jam. Also works well as a lemonade additive.

TARGET FLAVOR
"LorAnn Naturals Almond flavor adds the nutty taste of real almonds! Please keep in mind that these flavors, while concentrated, are only about half as strong as our traditional super strength candy oils or natural essential oils." - It should taste like a nice balance between slightly dry nut skin with a bit of texture and softer sweet, distinctive almond meat. -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 EXACTLY LIKE THE DESCRIPTION
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
1% light natural almond with skin
2% lots of skin, a little toasted, a little of the meat
3% smooth, really nice all around almond. The middle of the almond is really starting to show more.
4% very nice balanced almond 100% (the sweet spot)
5% sweet white almond meat, stronger nut skin, getting dry
6% muting
There is a sweet spot where the meat shows well and is balanced with the skin marked above. Since this is a sft, I would suggest cutting that about in half if used with other flavors in a mix.
I can almost get the texture coming through. This could probably be used low to lend the skin to another nut like walnut as well as a touch of texture.
🔹 Comments 🔹
I found this one at DIYVS but not at River Supply or BCF about this time last year. I haven't looked to see where this is currently available.
This is the best authentic almond that I've found. I hope to see more recipes featuring this one.
Forgiving, if you overdrip this one a little it doeant get wierd or harsh, it just starts to disappear. A fantastic flavor for a beginner.

TARGET FLAVOR
The VSO website describes it as, 'a rich vanilla bean pudding. It’s a classic taste that hits the spot when you’re craving something creamy, and sweet. This one is for vanilla lovers, so smooth and delectable. Light enough to enjoy daily, and all year round. This is so good you could eat it with a spork!' -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 EXACTLY LIKE THE DESCRIPTION
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
I first tried it at 17.5%. After 8 days it had a very prominent sour note on the finish. I was really disappointed because besides that it was incredible. I've never tried any other custard that was so unbelievably thick and rich after such a short time. It has the almost gelatinous thickness of a pudding. Great smooth, silky mouthfeel and one of my favourite ever vanilla notes. Like a natural, darker vanilla bean. There's a darkness to the custard that tastes like a little caramel had been mixed in. After 19 days that sour note had pretty much gone. What remained wasn't unpleasant and blended into the rest of the pudding. Maybe with a further steep it will go completely?
At 5% after 5 days it's mostly a really lovely, darker, natural vanilla bean type vanilla with some creaminess and that great silky mouthfeel. Not as thick as it was at 17.5%, but still very full and definitely has a good amount of thickness and body. Absolutely none of that sour note I got from 17.5%. It may get thicker and more custard-y with more of a steep but I've yet to test further. As it is after 5 days, it could be very useful to add that amazing vanilla note, some creaminess, body and that silky mouthfeel. Kind of like you might use INW Shisha Vanilla.
At 10% after 5 days the vanilla isn't as delicate and natural tasting as it was at 5%. I'm getting the slightest twinge of that vanilla astringency I get from a lot of custards. It also seems a touch brighter, which makes it seem ever so slightly more artificial than it was at 5%. Judging from my testing at 17.5% i'm pretty sure it needs a bit more of a steep. I'm not getting any of that sour note I got from 17.5%. It's more custard-y/pudding-y than it was at 5%, but doesn't seem an awful lot thicker. That could likely change after steeping more. Has that great silky mouthfeel. Very, very smooth. It seems like it could be pushed a bit higher before that sour note becomes present.
🔹 Comments 🔹
I obviously need to do some more testing to see how it changes with a longer term steep. But I have been experimenting with adding a different flavours to it. As a SF it's a full custard. It doesn't need any aspects boosting with other flavours etc. So it's been fun to just add strawberry or nuts or whatever you want. You can easily accentuate or change the qualities it has. Can push the caramel notes by adding more caramel or butterscotch etc. Or brighten it by adding something like a brighter custard. Can use it lower to just get that great vanilla note. It's just fun to play with. It's definitely become my favourite custard-y flavour- so I'm spreading the good word! It's available at Chefs if you're in the UK and surrounding areas. I'd imagine it's even easier to source if you're in the US.

FLV didn't seem to have any description on their website. So Chefs describe it as, 'If marshmallow is a staple in your mixing arsenal this will be a must-have. Has a nice fluffy texture like marshmallow fluff from the store with hints of vanilla and it doesn't add any of the dryness or muting that comes with many typical marshmallow flavours.' (They recommend using 1-4%) -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 ⚪ VERY CLOSE TO EXPECTATIONS
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
After 4 days steep I dripped it and fired it the first thing that hit me was the vapour smelled very anise-y. I was accidentally vaping at at an overly low wattage for the first 10-15 mins and I got a prominent, distinctive anise note. In fact it was the main note. I can see the anise is supposed to be the outer part of the MM, but there's just too much of it. I have never heard anyone else say they get any anise from FLV MMV so I think I might be weird. I did really enjoy the anise-y MM though.
Once I'd bumped the power up to my normal wattage (35w) I got a lot less anise, although there was still a little. Even the vapour stopped smelling of anise. At 40w there was no anise. All very weird!
I tested it again after 2 weeks. The anise note is gone. It's now a really good marsmallow. The texture is spot on. Has that slightly gelatinous, fluffy feel. It's fairly sweet, but could be sweeter for a marshmallow. It has a really lovely silky, almost creamy mouthfeel. Get the outer part of the MM and even some of that powdery-ness MMs are covered in. The flavour isn't particularly in your face, but that's how MMs are. The vanilla is well blended into the MM and much more subtle than I'd expect from something called Marshmallow Vanilla. It's not overly bright or artificial either.
🔹 Comments 🔹
It's quite pleasant as a SF. I might vape it solo if I wanted a break from big, bold flavours. It has a more distinctive MM taste than something like TFA Marshmallow. So may not be as versatile. It's the entire MM, not just the gooey inards. So I'm not sure how well it would work as an additive to just get the fluffy texture, like a lot of other MMs are used. I'd like to try mixing it with another MM and using Emily's idea of adding FLV Smoked Butterscotch to see if it would make a nice toasted MM. I've wanted to make a toasted MM ice cream for a while. So it might work in that? It's FLV so is widely available.
The more I hear about this flavor, the higher up it moves on my wish list.
I was really anti-marshmallow flavours for ages. I think the way real MMs turn to goo in your mouth is really gross. But it recently dawned on me that that isn't an issue in vaping, so I've been on a MM buying spree! If you like MM I think it's definitely worth getting. I just mixed it with OOO Marshmallow Vanilla this morning and it was soo good. I'd definite recommend that one too if you don't already have it. It's one of the best flavours for mouthfeel I've ever tried.

TARGET FLAVOR
From TFA: A tropical fruit flavor that's very sweet and candylike, while also having notes of real pulpy fruit! It's a bit like a certain Juicy style of gum, and also much like a mouthwatering fruity chew candy. -
ACCURACY : ❓ ❓ UNSURE WHAT IT SHOULD TASTE LIKE
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
Tropical? I wouldn’t know because I have never actually eaten one. I’d say it’s slightly soury like a pineapple, sweet like a papaya (because in my opinion, papaya’s aren’t actually sweet) and juicy like a peach or mango, so much so like if you have ever eaten a mango down to the seed you just suck the rest of the flavor from it for fun and lick your fingers. Except there’s something dirty and earthy and others have described it as funky, but I don’t know this word. Some say juicy fruit gum, but that as well I have never had. I picked up this flavor quite randomly so I could mix Jacked Up Fruits
🔹 Comments 🔹
I do not think TFA’s description is accurate but for what it is has mouthfeel, almost nothing dry, nothing harsh on the throat and you can jam it, obviously put it into a fruit or mixed drink cocktail and I really love it with CAP 27 Bears which is like the white gummy bear candy from Haribo, chewy, and like wax flavor. For fun I will link to my 27 Jackfruits. Buy it and be Amazed, mix it with anything fruit.

Description on VSO website reads, 'This is based off an age old recipe of Wassail Punch. It is a hearty and crisp cider base, mulled with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and star anise. A splash of zesty orange is added to accentuate the crisp clean taste of the apple. The warmth comes from a small splash of brandy to shake of the brisk autumn chill!' (They recommend using at 14%) -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 ⚪ ⚪ CLOSE - BUT COULD BE BETTER
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
I'm fairly sure I can taste VSO Apple as the main note. Which is an amazing apple, it's by far my favourite. But I wouldn't think to use it in a cider as it is a very fresh tasting apple with a fair amount of peel. Although VSO SWC does taste somewhat like a mulled scumpy cider it's missing the fermented note and there's a fair bit of fresh apple and a little bit of the peel note. So maybe a scrumpy with a chunks of apple in it? The spice notes are really nice and well balanced. The cinnamon tastes quite a lot like FLV Rich Cinnamon. It has a bit of boozy-ness and I am getting a really lovely brandy note. Although personally I wish there was just a bit more boozy-ness and brandy. I do get a little bit of orange, like fresh orange juice. It blends into everything else so I had to really pick it out. It's a very complex flavour. Every puff I seem to pick up on different notes. Also sometimes it tastes a lot like cider with some fresh apple and other times it tastes like fresh apple juice with a bit of boozy-ness. It didn't change an awful lot between 1 and 5 days. The fresh apple note lessened a bit. But not enough for it not to be an issue.
🔹 Comments 🔹
While it's tasty I'm not totally sure what to do with it. It sits in between a cider and fresh apple. I thought adding something like FLV Apple Cider could maybe push it more towards being a cider? Plus FLV is boozy and has that fermented note VSO is missing. Although I don't currently have FLV Apple Cider to test this theory. Testing VSO SWC does make me want to try VSO Brandy and VSO spice flavours as those elements were so good. It's available from Chefs if you're in the UK and direct from VSO's website.

ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 EXACTLY LIKE THE DESCRIPTION
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
Right out of the bottle smells like cactus aloe drink. Very fresh somewhat tart sweetness to the smell. On the inhales very fresh, light and tart taste of aloe drink, on the exhale gets a bit less pronounced but still same sweet mouthfeel. Very universal flavor, doesn't have this prickly effect of inw cactus so can be used just as a cactus major note or can always be used as a tone or background note. Not much to say, delicious flavor, will play well with fruits and drinks, versatile, my go to for cactus flavor now.
🔹 Comments 🔹
The one that I had was crystal clear, no off notes, no residue. Easy to find on BCF. At concentration lower than 2% was not able to taste it but it started to get up at 2% and higher. Suggestion is to use it in mixed at 2.5% if you want cactus more pronounced but at 2% if you just want a hint of cactus.

Not manufacturer notes unfortunately, but expected it to be like an aloe drink -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 ⚪ VERY CLOSE TO EXPECTATIONS
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
Right out of the bottle smells like cactus aloe drink. In this terms it is very close to SSA Cactus and overall these two flavors are like brothers, but there is a catch. INW Cactus used at low concentrations cause it is pretty potent. Very mouthwatering and overall an amazing flavor, however at higher concentrations can be too gritty and not as pleasant. On the inhale on concentration around .75% it is pretty sweet but not too juicy, tart, prickly, like a flesh of a fruit that I do not know, on the exhale prickliness gets a bit more pronounced. Adds this watery feeling to your juice. However when you lower to .25% it tends to stay on the background adding just a watery feel and slight prickliness to your juice.
🔹 Comments 🔹
Even though the flavor is amazing, but personally I wouldn't use it more than at .5% in anything. Even more so I'd suggest to use it at .25% as a background and mouthwatering note. Pretty sure it will easily combine well with SSA Cactus to the both flavors benefit.

Not manufacturer notes unfortunately, but expected it to be like a cherry Kompot (not french compote but Kompot like a watery preserve) -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 🔴 EXACTLY LIKE THE DESCRIPTION
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
I was told that this flavor is a pretty good cherry flavor but it turns out an amazing flavor, though it is hard to call it cherry flavor, rather the Cherry Kompot flavor. Kompot is a way of preserving berries and fruits for the winter which resembles a light juice/drink with fruits in it. It is something that you will open in the winter to drink, or you can open it in the summer and drink it with ice. Anyway it is amazing. And cherry kompot was my favorite. So if you want to know what is it - just try this flavor, 100% taste like it. On the inhale it is mildly sweet, fresh, juicy, very soul-warming taste (but that might be due to similarities to the drink I described above), on the exhale it leans a bit towards the cherry seed but not too pronounced so it is not bothering. Amazing flavor.
🔹 Comments 🔹
On 2.5% the taste is very light, not too pronounced, can be used as a complimentary note on this concentration. Will play well with another cherries easily as it is pretty versatile flavor (e.g. with INW Cherries). At 3-3.5% should be strong enough to serve as a base for the recipe. Pretty good as a single flavor juice too.

Strawberry and Custard with different combined creams. -
ACCURACY : 🔴 🔴 🔴 ⚪ ⚪ CLOSE - BUT COULD BE BETTER
🔹 Flavor Description 🔹
%7.5 SnV: Smooth dairy note followed by a mouthfulling cream with a little bit of good smooth cheesecakey crust. Also there is a "clove" off note glued to the strawberry the and crust part of the flavor as SnV. Chemical taste on the cream side. Strawberry is extremely muted.
%7.5 after 4 days: Clove off note gets really muted, gets spicier and less floral and it blends with crust. Crust tastes much more unique but still waaay more accurate. %90 of the chemical taste in creams/vanilla disappear. Accuracy gets better and it gives that crusty creamy feel on exhale, and a little creamy mouthfeel that fills your mouth while inhale. Strawberry gets less juicy and more syrupy, its not bright enough but not disturbingly dark.
🔹 Comments 🔹
I think the clove off note is floral and spicy at the same time, so it blends well with the overall flavor unlike other off-notes.
It's also SWEET ENOUGH so don't use any sweetener in your mix (i used 0.75% fw sweetener and this thing turned out "commercially sweet". so you can probably guess why is it sweet enough).
Vanilla is little bit dull.
Not worth as a sf but can be used to make your recipes ultra authentic and different.
Creams or vanilla doesn't taste like plastic even if you steep just 7 days, unlike other creams. (i get plastic notes from cap bavarian cream and tpa bavarian cream)

However mixed, without steeping has a weird dust + sand + dried shell off-notes. 1-2 days steeping however helps and the off-notes no longer there. What is left is a thick, somewhat juicy fresh lychee flesh with a very slight floral background which is almost non existent. Pretty sweet, syrupy, a bit towards candy but still with distinct lychee flesh taste. Overall a very good flavor even though not my favorite among Lychees.
🔹 Comments 🔹
Pretty strong flavor, can bully other flavors with ease, wouldn't recommend to mix with more pale flavors (e.g. CAP Sweet Lychee) unless you want it to be the main note. Will easily compliment stronger fruit flavors if that is what you need. Would suggest to start from 1% and work your way towards desired concentration.
