PART 1:
Noted Ep. 184: FLAVORS OF THE YEAR (ft. Fresh03 (plus new host EyeMSam))
(Episode Aired 5th January 2021)
Worst Flavours of the Year:
OOO Fruity Cereal Flavours: (ID10-T) Basically all fruity cereal flavours by OOO. Some are a lot worse than others. But they're all pretty much garbage.
9.16
SC/FE Caramel Flavours: (ID10-T) All four caramel flavours by SC (aka FE). SC Caramel Cream Puff, SC Caramel, SC Caramel Mocha and SC Caramel Candy. Caramel Candy wasn't quite as bad as the others, but they're all terrible. SC/FE do some great fruits and tobaccos. SC Oak Milk is an unusual, but great flavour.
9.51
FW Cherry Blast: (Emily) ID10-T didn't think it was that bad. Didn't get plastic, but was pretty cough drop-ish. Emily found it really harsh and plastic-y. Had every cherry off note there is. Medicinal shower curtain.
11.55
OOO Cheesecake Flavours: (Sam) OOO Lemon Cheesecake, OOO Caramel Drizzle Cheesecake, OOO Strawberry Cheesecake, OOO Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake, OOO Chocolate Cheesecake. (not including OOO Vanilla Custard Cheesecake) Sam was really disappointed by all of them. Very underwhelming. Found OOO Vanilla Custard Cheesecake wasn't great as a SF. But can do really great things in a mix. Also not a good cheesecake flavour. But is a good cream cheese frosting. Fresh likes OOO Yogurt Cheesecake.
14.04 and 18.39
SSA Dark Blackberry: (Fresh) Stood out of all the flavours Fresh tried this year for being a dumpster fire of a flavour! Pretty awful. Almost as bad as FA Blackberry.
14.27
FA Blackberry: (ID10-T) Although SSA Dark BB was pretty terrible, FA BB was worse. Even at 0.1% it's completely un-vapeable. An assault of floral perfume. Harsh and nasty.
16.21
TFA Cheesecake: (Emily) Terrible. Folkart claims that a tiny bit can work in a cheesecake recipe.
17.49
WF Marscapone: (ID10-T) Funky. The worst WF flavours ID10-T has tried. Sam found that used low as an accent with other creams it can work.
19.27
SSA Marscapone has no tang, it's just a cream. WF Brown Sugar Cookie tastes like ferrets smell. But improves after a long steep, 10 days minimum. Sam used it in a sugar cookies and milk recipe. Actually a decent cookie after steeping. WF Champagne Soda is the worst WF flavour Fresh has tried. Tastes like baby powder. WF Egg Yolk is awful on it's own, but can work in a recipe.
TFA Caramel Cappuccino: (Emily) Harsh. Bite-y in a weird way. Get the worst off notes associated with caramels, plus the worst off notes commonly associated with coffees. Skunky burnt tyre rubber. ID10-T described it as having hints of raw meat and onion juice. The room note is awful. A lot of coffees are ok at lower wattages, below around 40w. But TFA CC is terrible whatever the wattage.
21.41
SSA Creme Brulee: (ID10-T) One of the worst flavours ID10-T has ever tried. Burnt chemicals. Emily didn't hate it quite as much as ID10-T. Thought it was thick and DAAP-y. But also burnt. INW Creme Brulee and even VT Creme Brulee are better options.
24.12
MB Galaxy Cheesecake - Didn't taste bad, just muddy.
MB Lychee and Dragonfruit Premium Green Tea: (Fresh) Particularly disliked it. But doesn't like lychee.
26.57
Herrlan Choco Shake: (ID10-T) Chocolate pot pouri. Made ID10-T gag. Most or all of the chocolate flavours from Herrlan were bad. Herrlan Shokolade Voll Milch literally tasted like chocolate covered poop!
28.25
FW Cookie Butter: (Emily) Tastes really good for the first puff. By the second puff it's permanently destroyed your coils. Can't dry burn and reuse them. It cakes on like concrete. Tastes like chemicals and ash. It also really drys your mouth out. Some savoury flavours can also cause dryness, but not to the level FW CB does. The actual concentrate is very dark in colour. Luckily there's other options for cookie butter and Speculoos cookies. Can use it in cooking though. Apparently it goes really well with ice cream and other desserts. Just don't vape it!
30.14
WF Cookie Butter doesn't taste like a jar of cookie butter. But it is a really good flavour. Like the butter from a cookie. Fresh calls it 'better bakery butter'. Emily ranked WF Cookie Butter/WF Crumble Topping in her best flavours of the year. They're both kind of similar in how they can help a mix out. Add a lovely buttery, baked-ness.
SSA Cottage Cheese: (ID10-T) Found it moldy, bitter and nasty. Rhubarb-ish off note. Fresh thinks it has its uses. Can get it to taste like cottage cheese. Have to pair with very sweet fruits. Peaches and pineapple work particularly well.
33.43
FA Black Pepper is a good flavour.
VT Bubblegum Base: (Emily) Doesn't taste that bad. But was just so disappointing. Has an anise off note. Like eating bubblegum and black liquorice at the same time.
36.06
RF Cheesecake SC: (ID10-T) Almost made ID10-T throw up. Intensely vomitus. Sam and Fresh agreed that it's not a good flavour.
37.12
FW Jungle Juice: (Emily) A menthol watermelon. Emily found it disgusting. Sharp, thin. A lot of people apparently really like it. Vurve used FW Jungle Juice in a older clone recipe that people really loved.
37.56
LA Irish Cream: (ID10-T) NOT SAFE TO VAPE. Not water soluble. Tastes like sawdust and old fryer grease.
39.13
FLV Waffle and FLV Tricks Cereal: (Emily) FLV Waffle - Notoriously awful. FLV Tricks Cereal - kind of fruity mushrooms.
40.23
VT Almond: (ID10-T) ID10-T got intense vinyl shower curtain off note. Emily didn't hate it enough to put it on the worst of the year list. But thought it was harsh and thin.
42.08
SSA Almond: (ID10-T) Similar to VT Almond. But just not quite as plastic-y.
42.32
FA Almond is really good. TFA Toasted Almond can be useful.
PART 3:
Noted Ep. 184: FLAVORS OF THE YEAR (ft. Fresh03 (plus new host EyeMSam))
Best Flavours of the Year Continued:
VSO Huckleberry and Fresh's manufacturer of the Year: (Fresh) VSO Pumpkin was Fresh's no. 2 flavour of last year. It's still the best pumpkin by a long way. VSO started the year with 5 flavours, pumpkin, grape, apple, strawberry and blueberry. Over th course of the year his aim was to release 52 flavours. But he managed to get to 80+. Releases two new flavours every two weeks. Listens to suggestions to the community. Every single fruit Fresh has tried has been a notch above anything else from other companies. Some have been just ridiculously good. Particularly VSO Huckleberry, which is Fresh's choice for his flavour of the year. It's mind bogglingly authentic to a wild huckleberry. Has a slight floral note, but it steeps out after 4 days. Then it's like a wild blueberry. Sweeter and juicier than VSO Blueberry. Has just enough 'wild' to it.
VSO Banana is authentic ripe banana. VSO Pineapple tastes exactly like pineapple juice. VSO Coconut tastes like dessicated coconut. VSO Espresso is one of the best utility coffees there is, can use it for whatever you want. Because they are naturally extracted flavours it's probably the most consistently authentic of any flavour house. Fresh had the head of VSO on his show where he went through every step of the extraction process. Done in a way that it is safe to vape. VSO Kiwi has usurped FW Kiwi as the best kiwi flavour. Very authentic. Fresh is yet to try a VSO flavour that hasn't impressed him.
1.16.43
OOO Vanilla Custard Cheesecake and OOO Marshmallow Vanilla: (Emily) OOO VCC is not a great cheesecake, but a great flavour. ID10-T and Sam also had OOO MV on ther lists. It's really thick, sweet, vanilla-y. Like eating MM Fluff out of the jar. Good as a SF. ID10-T's no. 1 flavour of the year.
1.22.58
FLV Pumpkin Spice: (ID10-T) Literally flawless. Perfect with VSO Pumpkin.
1.24.28
SSA Peanut Butter: (Sam) One of the best peanut butters available. Emily thinks it has taken the crown from TFA Peanut Butter DX. Has a bit of an overly prominent nut skin note which needs to be worked around.
1.25.15
According to Fresh a new peanut butter flavour is set to release soon that is that commercial, Jiffy style peanut butter with no nut skin off note.
OOO Strawberry Jam: (Fresh) Emily made a 3,2,1 with OOO SB Jam, OOO MM Vanilla and JF Cookie. Was delicious.
1.26.19
Recipe:
3,2,One on One (Strawberry Marshmallow Cream) by freshepies (ELR) 3% OOO Marshmallow (Vanilla?), 2% OOO SB Jam, 1% OOO Whipped Cream
1.27.01
OOO flavours tend to be either amazing of absolutely terrible. Not a lot of mediocre flavours.
FW Razzleberry: (Emily) Perfect candied raspberry. Has a brightness to it, but also some depth. FW Razzleberry with SSA Raspberry Syrup could be a great combo? Maybe added to ice cream, cheesecake, yoghurt?
1.28.03
From WF Latest Release: (Sam) Sam's favourites from the most recent WF release. WF Aged Bourbon Cream SC, WF Philadelphia Butter Cake SC, WF Sugar Cookie SC, WF Cookie Crumble SC. WF ABC is a good bourbon cream. Dark, great mouthfeel. Accentuates things really nicely.
1.29.23
WF has another line of flavours coming out soon.
CNV Donut: (Fresh) Fresh thought CNV Donut was a pretty spot on cake-y donut. Has a really nice, dark outer crust note. A little on the thin side. But easy to build on. ID10-T tested at 3% and got puke-y off note. But may have used it too high. Fresh uses it around 1.5-2%. Didn't get any puke-y-ness.
1.30.14
CNV Cookie and CNV Lemon Cream Wafer are also really good. CNV Vanilla Pudding is a remarkable flavour.
Hey, so this might be a dumb question but at the top of part 3 you kept mentioning "VSO" flavors. I checked the chart you posted and the sidebar info on the sub and still can't find what that abbreviation (if it even is an abbreviation) stands for. Could you enlighten me please? I'm looking to order some of the flavors you've posted here.
I think that's just their name.
u/erikpiekarz & u/LilBearLulu I recently learned that it's actually "Vaping Swag Originals". I can see why they keep that on the DL tho, especially with the giant attack on vaping going on literally everywhere (sorry for the double tag I just didn't know who would actually see my comment if I just hit reply). Hopefully it gets added to the abbreviation list soon bc I searched forever & couldn't find it, ended up asking some experienced DIYers & was enlightened
PART 2:
Noted Ep. 184: FLAVORS OF THE YEAR (ft. Fresh03 (plus new host EyeMSam))
Best Flavours of the Year:
VT Toffee Ice Cream: (Emily) Rich, sweet toffee goodness.
44.37
VT Honeycomb almost made ID10-T's best list. VT English Toffee almost made Emily's best list.
VT Orange Marmalade: (ID10-T) Really authentic marmalade. Nice zesty orange peel. Sweet jammy base. SSA Bakery Orange could work well with it. Don't confuse with VT English Marmalade, which is terrible.
45.27
VSO Blackberry: (Sam) An excellent blackberry. Smooth, sweet, authentic. Dark. Can even taste the seeds. No perfume or any other off notes. Sam uses around 3%
46.32
FM Blackberry is another good blackberry.
SSA Lemon Cheesecake: (Fresh) As a SF it's not the greatest flavour. The lemon doesn't really shine or stand out that much. It's similar to the bakery type lemon MB uses in some of their flavours. The cheesecake is pretty good. But it's great in a mix that has another fruit and cream. Adds extra richness and the lemon makes other fruits brighter. It really makes the fruit pop. Works really well with anything you use lemon to brighten blueberry, strawberry, peaches, melons. It doesn't need any steep time. At 1% just get the richness of the CC, get a little touch of CC flavour and the brightening affect of the lemon. A really useful flavour. Fresh uses it around 1%.
47.43
Recipe:
ID10T Milk by freshepies (ELR)
50.00
FLV Apple Filling: (Emily and ID10-T) Anytime you need a bakery apple with some cinnamon spice. Has really good balance. Really deep and robust. Delicious. Versatile. Can use with other fruits, like baked peaches, for the spice note. After a steep has gloop-y pie filling texture. All the other cinnamon apple flavours just don't really compare.
50.16
WF Strawberry Gummy Candy: (ID10-T) Fresh thinks it tied with INW Shisha Strawberry for the best artificial strawberry flavour. INW SS is strawberry syrup. WF SGC is a strawberry gummy candy. Or Welches Strawberry Fruit Snacks, which have artificial strawberry flavour and real strawberry puree. WF has sweet, thick, chewy, gummy texture. The strawberry is really forward and flavourful.
52.00
WF Blueberry Gummy Candy, WF Apple Gummy Candy and WF Tropical Gummy Candy are also all great.
SSA Cherry Flavours and VSO Cherry: (Sam) SSA Juicy Cherries, SSA Cherry Compote, SSA Ripe Cherry and VSO Cherry are all cherries that have no off notes. SSA Compote Cherry works really well as a pie filling. SSA Ripe Cherry is a good maraschino, candied cherry. It's less bite-y than the other SSA cherries.
53.37
MB Classic Sponge Cake and MB Classic Belgian Waffle: (Fresh) MB CBW is a very good waffle. Very authentic to a Belgian waffle. Light vanilla note. Has some fluffiness. No maple, which makes it more versatile. MB CSC does the crispy outer edges of a cake like no other flavour. Whilst not tasting burnt. They work really well paired together for a crispy, cake-y waffle. Both are very useful flavours. MB CBW can add vanilla and light malty note to a cake or donut etc. MB CSC can be used to add crispiness to waffles, cakes, donuts, cookies etc.
54.59
SSA Sweet Watermelon: (Emily) Thought it was like MB Big Watermelon, but bigger. Very robust, full, bold, slightly candied watermelon. Fresh thought it was one of the best watermelon flavours there is. Watermelon can be easily bullied in a mix. Or if it is bold then often it can have off notes. But SSA SW doesn't suffer from either of those issues. No rind. Not really candied, but it is very sweet.
57.54
SSA Sweet Yogurt: (Sam) Fresh and Emily agreed it's a great flavour. Works so well in cheesecakes. Given a week steep SSA SY really blooms. Brings thickness and creamy tang.
59.14
MB Creamy Greek Yogurt: (Fresh) Has just enough of a nip to it to be Greek yoghurt. But doesn't go overboard with it. Milky, creamy yoghurt. Similar to CAP Creamy Yogurt, but better. Not a particularly great Greek yoghurt, but it is a good yoghurt.
59.57
FLV Root Beer: (ID10-T) Rare for a flavour to be so much better than all others of the same profile. A great root beer. Very authentic. Bold. If you're going to layer it with a load of other creams or something FLV is the one to use as it is so bold. It won't get bullied.
1.01.57
SSA Milky Caramel Fudge: (Emily) Not to be confused with SSA Milky Caramel Cream, which is not particularly good. SSA MCF is decadent, rich. Really gooey and sticky. Melt-y and delicious. What you'd want a caramel to be. Like a milky caramel sauce. No fudge, except for it being thick and gooey. A light caramel, not as dark as many other caramel flavours. Could work for that thick candy bar/chocolate bar caramel. The only thing Fresh is aware of that is equally as gooey is INW Horned Toffee.
1.02.30
INW Horned Toffee: (Sam) One of Sam's favourite caramel-y, toffee flavours. It's full and sticky. Very gooey. Amazing flavour.
1.04.08
SSA Bakery Orange: (ID10-T) Excellent baked orange. Unique, no other flavour like it. Cooked orange without having to use something like FA Liquid Amber, caramel and faffing around with a lot of bending. Fresh paired it with CNV Vanilla Pudding and VSO Swaggy Chocolate for a winter-y chocolate orange.
1.05.33
SSA Garden Mint: (ID10-T) No other flavour that would be as good for something like a mojito. Very natural, fresh spearmint leaf. Not many flavours that are natural mint.
1.06.55
SSA Nectarine: (ID10-T) A really, really good nectarine.
1.07.23
SSA Multivitamin almost made ID10-T's best of year list.
VT Cookies and Cream: (Emily) Sugar cookies and cream. Good as a SF. Delicious.
1.07.57
SSA Raspberry Syrup: (Fresh) Even a tiny amount in a mix is noticeable. A really authentic raspberry syrup. Perfect for sundaes, filling for donuts etc. Good sticky feel.
1.08.48
SSA Crisp Waffle: (Fresh) Spot on freshly cooked waffle cone. Very potent. Need to use around 0.5%. Still present in a mix at 0.5%. Emily got a burnt note from it at 1%. Fresh tried to use it with MB Classic Belgian Waffle and it didn't work. It's a waffle cone, not a waffle.
1.09.22
TFA Vanilla Custard II: (Sam) Everyone had it on their list for last years FOTY. Can use lower for just the really good vanilla note. Not quite as egg-y as FA Custard Premium. Just really good.
1.10.49
WF Bavarian Cream: (Emily) Almost made ID10-T's and Sam's list. Deep, dark and rich. Different to TFA Bavarian Cream, doesn't have the kind of spicy note TFA has. Supermarket bavarian cream donuts are more like vanilla pudding than real bavarian cream. WF is more like real BC. Thick, warm with a little darkness. Similar to custard, but not quite. Can be used as the single cream flavour in a fruit and cream type recipe. Could maybe be used like TFA Vanilla Swirl. Can use as the only cream flavour in a fruits and cream recipe. TFA VS can also be used as the single cream with fruits. Gives an authentic enough vanilla cream.
1.11.52
TFA Vanilla Swirl is kind of like a soft serve vanilla ice cream.
FM Pure Gin: (ID10-T) So good it was worth ordering from Belgium. Straight up gin. FLV and VT have good gins, but not as good as FM.
1.14.18
VSO Individual Components: (Sam) VSO has broken down certain profiles into their individual components so you can make your own customised versions. They do individual flavours that would be in a gin. Like elderflower, lavender, juniper etc. Also has a lot of individual spices like cinnamon, nutmeg so you can build your own spice blend. The VSO Spice Pack is really well done.
1.15.06
