Hello, DIY World
submitted over 4 years ago by ayce_k

I just commented over on the FOTW thread, but thought I might make my own introduction post as well.

Hi! I'm Ace!

I've vaped on and off for years (as far back as '09) and occasionally dabbled in DIY, but never successfully smashed the ash for good. I started dual using again in September/October. Finally decided to stop dragging my feet and have been smoke free since 12/20/20. I've just taken the headlong plunge back into DIY as well. Got a bunch of Tobaccos (mostly FLV and a few TPA & FA) that should be arriving later today and I can't wait to get mixin!

I must say that u/isuamadog's post over here helped massively with my order decisions. As a recent quitter, I've already mixed up and am loving JJ's 2 Flavor Banger subbing WF Walnut SC at 2% for the 1% FA Walnut. Going to mix it again as written once my FA Walnut gets here later today. This one has absolutely helped with the cravings.

Here's what else I have on deck to mix this weekend:
Sacrilege by nickg
Hazelnut Tobacco by u/Failyx
Folkart's Reserve by u/folkart2000
Sweet Leaf by u/Vurve
Gatsby by u/Max-Savage
OhoSsOhO by TheJuiceFairy
Southerner_by_kopel sans Kentucky Bourbon
Abuela by u/Fear sans Mango
Western, Burley, DNB by u/T_Mace
1 2 3 Burley from u/horizonism subbing JF RY4 double.

Lastly, I'm going to be a basic noob and whip up some u/fizzmustard Mustard Milk and u/Fear's Sometimes Daily Vape. I'll mix up u/skiddlzninja's God Milk and u/ID10-T's Mother of Dragon's Milk/Mother of God's Milk once my Vanilla Swirl, Bavarian Cream and Strawberry (ripe) get here sometime in the next 10 days. I'm interested to see how these all stack up next to each other as kind of a palette test... though after 17+ years of smoking and eating copious amounts of hot sauce who knows if I have any taste buds left at all?

Just want to say that you guys and gals are awesome and have helped motivate me to quit. I look forward to joining the community.

Hey man, just saw this after reading FotW. Love this post. Clearly you did some planning. I hope you follow up and leave some reviews as I haven’t tried some of those recipes before. Welcome to fold!

Also, I’m hoping to make a follow up to this at some point with more recent great recipes but maybe that will give you some more ideas of what to try next.

Thanks! I hadn't seen the FAQ Friday post yet. Good stuff in there.

I definitely want to try Cabin and Native God next.

I know Cardinal is a keystone recipe, but I obviously won't be able to source any original HHGRY4 unless some generous soul on here feels like sharing. What's the consensus for subbing in v2? Same %?

Anyone ever find the magic missing ingredients from the original?

lots of speculation on the OG including rumors someone in the shop spilled the beans on some ingredients. still clouded in mystery and legend as far as i could gather and boy did i gather. in the end, honestly, i can see virtually anything subbing for it depending on tastes, but ofc it will never be the same. I think fear has said that v2 isnt v1 but cardinal works with it just the same. iirc u/TeslaDelMar did a side by side comparison post of HHG v1/2 and I did an RY4 breakdown i can edit links in for later if you want to try for a sub. As for v2% I'd go 1:1 since it's a bit less sweet (again iirc) and i prefer it that way myself.

Congratulations on your decision. I quit after close to 30 years and can tell you it takes a little while but eventually your taste buds will return and when they do it is unbelievable.

I sure hope they do! I read some of these reviews and recipe descriptions and get pretty excited to think that there's this entire plane of subtlety that I've yet to discover.

Hey and thank you for that post! Great choice of recipes, I‘m sure you’ll find some that you will enjoy. Hope that you’ll like the hazelnut tobacco, I‘d love to get some feedback on that recipe!
