Flavour specific fatigue?
submitted over 4 years ago by WomBimblesDiketones, Schmiketones

I have been mixing for about 6 months now and one flavour I loved when I started was TPA vanilla bean ice cream. So naturally with my second ever order of flavours I got LOADS of it and I used it a lot. Now I can't seem to taste it? I can taste elements of it, but it doesn't taste like icecream anymore.. I'm not a pepper taster.. but I can see where people get that flavour from. I keep thinking I have overall flavour fatigue but I can taste other flavours just fine. When I use TPA VBIC in a recipe now I just get hollow void where that flavour should be and I can taste other flavours around it.

It's the worst cause I'm working in a recipe that this was Integral to. Wondering if anyone else has similar experience to this? Will I ever taste it the same or has the veil of truth been lifted on this flavour and my palette has seen truth it can never unsee? I'm going to change the icecream entirely for further recipe development but it sucks cause I used to dig the hell out of this one.

That's exactly what flavor fatigue is. Vape something else for awhile.

Vape on some cheesecake or custard for awhile and then come back to your ice cream and retest it. Flavor fatigue is very common with vaping, heck even food or drinks.

Hi. Don’t vape one profile exclusively, mix it up on a daily basis. I vape at least 3-4 profiles throughout the day and have never had issues. I also love dessert flavors, but I‘ll have something minty, fruity and tobacco to keep the flavors switching.

Also make sure you stay well hydrated and perform proper oral hygiene, it all helps. I‘d stay away from the ice cream profile for a bit. Good luck!

Me too. I killed lemon, as well as blueberry. They mostly went invisible to me. I can taste something but it's not the thing I loved. I try to be restrained with the recipes and flavours I love now.

This is what I do:

Always mix two distinct recipes. They should share one ingredient max. For me, I do a Boss Reserve clone or something close that's heavy peanut butter, custard, banana, etc.. (right now I'm rocking a PBJ mix I conjured of [tfa is all I use] Peanut butter, ripe strawberry, crunch cereal, and a touch vanilla swirl.)

But my main mix is Ripe Strawberry, a touch of chocolate, and bavarian cream. This cream strawberry combo is VERY different than the peanut butter and custardy/cereal types of things above... but similar enough to not conflict with taste left in the tank/on the coils. Whenever I am feeling the "vaper's tongue" coming on.. I let my tank run dry, then switch to that other, similar, but very differently constructed mix.

Been working for... 7 years now? Jfc I've been mixing a while I just realized.

That's great! I'm still gathering flavours I have about 90 to 100 flavours and I bought mostly creams, bakeries, icecreams and custards xD. But I usually have an inoffensive watermelon mix handy as well for such an occasion! So I'm on the liter flavours for the next while! Thanks, I'll keep contrasted mixes about more often for sure. I just need to mix more entirely!

I’ve purposefully made some light fruit mixes that I’ll vape on for a few days to help reset my pallet.

Also found switching to a low voltage device for a day or two and go back to dripping is an great reset.

Unjuice/flavorless for a week, mints for a week, or rotate your flavors.

I've been mostly vaping menthol crystals as flavour. When i switch to anything else it seems really strong.

tfa strawberry im afraid will never taste the same to me. I think that i used it so much it has permanently changed. (I mixed it as a solo flavor quite a bit) Instead of nice sweet strawberry candy all it gives me now is this sickly, chalky almost alcohol type taste. I tried to not use it for a month and came back to it and its exactly the same. Pretty sad TBH as it was one of my favorites.

I always keep at least two or three tanks going at any one time. All with different flavors, I current have a vanilla bean cream, a key lime pie, a peach bourbon, and a sour apple. If I feel the flavor fading I'll just switch to a different tank for a while..
