So I've been into DIY for about 6 months or so, I usually mix fruits, for example FA Forest Fruit Mix and FA Fuji Apple. However, as of late I just don't get the same flavour I used to, so much so I got into RTAs as I was advised that the flavour was way better on them, that was the case for all of several weeks, after that I'm struggling to get the same flavour even when I rewick and build new coils. Help a fellow mixer out.
There appears to be a small subset of the population whose olfactory system reacts oddly to vaping and flavor. I myself started off the same way as you, every month or so I appeared to get vape tongue for a week and a half or so, but this problem was getting worse, my taste was going out faster and faster and the periods of not being able to taste my vape was getting longer and longer. After close to a year of vaping, my taste went out and never came back. This led me to quit vaping as without the taste part, vaping loses all appeal. You sound just like me, I spent a long time thinking it was my equipment, but no matter what I did I was always brought back to the same conclusion, it was me that something was wrong with. This even affected my ability to taste food, but after 6 months off vaping it is hard to tell if my taste has already or will ever fully come back. I hope your story isn't the same as mine, but what your going through sounds very similar to my story.
Just wanted to let you know mate, since I posted this I went and mixed up E-liquid with no flavour at all, it sucked at first but after the first two days I got used to it, I also bought a new rta and it arrived on Tuesday and I decided to try again. Good news is I can taste the E-liquid very well now, otherwise I hope you come right ey, it may be an on and off thing for me but I genuinely got my joy for vaping and mixing back and genuinely I hope one of these days you get yours back too.
Do you use nicotine in your juice? If you do, try mixing up a small batch without it and see how it tastes. I recently found out that some of my nicotine aliquots had gone bad and was giving my juice a very dry and blah taste. I made a small batch without nicotine and was blown away at the flavor I had been missing out on.
I'll try mix without the nic, but after having had to change brands, I bought more nic directly from Clyrolinx which supplies almost all the Vape shops here in South Africa, both amber bottles are stored in a cool dark place. Maybe the new bottles will have better quality nic...?
Did you change brands of bases? (Vg, pg, nic). I've also found that some mixes lose flavor over time (long steeps). Lastly, I've bought into the hype of certain rdas providing better flavor- for me, its more like "certain rdas boast different flavors". My vapefly rda really punches me in the face with certain fruits while other fruits, like, disappear. Its weird. The one rda I keep going back to is my dual coil Drop. Very consistent, good heat, and easy to drip. Hope that helps
I had to change brands for my NIC and my other bases I bought in bulk so I wouldn't have to worry about getting them for a while, otherwise to give you a bit more insight I bought the Zeus X rta and the QP Design fatality m25 rta, but with both the flavour is there just tastes a bit watered down, but I used the same percentage of concentrates I always used. I'll definitely consider getting the drop though.
Oh ok. I have the zeus rta too. Its great but I definitely get different flavor from it. Watered down maybe a good way to describe it as well. I think, for me, the zeus air flow really created that "watered down" flavor effect- still good, but a lil different.
How large of batches are you making and how long to finish a bottle?
I use 100ml gorilla bottles, It usually takes me about a week and a half to get through one bottle. I go through 3 in a month but mix 5 so I can change between flavours.
>I started mixing smaller batches so the fruity ones don't get more than a month old. Bad luck with some flavors fading.

>Also I have had kind of dead taste buds at times. I think that is normal. I get super frustrated or switch to the one or two flavors that I can taste for a while.
here is my take. Theres two kinds of fruits, candy and fresh fruit. Candy is sugary sweet, gives you sugar lips & fresh cut fruit flavors are alot more subtle. Candy mix
I've stuck to fresh cut fruit flavours, but honestly I used to taste them better than I am now, hopefully I'll figure this out soon.
i guess what i had got cut off. fresh fruit flavors fade over time and dont need a steep, in fact i find theyre best before 2 weeks. To combat this i like to make a blend of 3 fresh fruits, one candy to tie it togeather can go along way but i still prefer a fresh blend, even if its all the same fruit, just 3 different labels. a candy mix has a long shelf life, like candy. Fresh fruits get lost in creams after a week, especially strawberry. I found fresh fruits fade even quicker in nic salts. all my pod recipes are pre blended into one bottle of extract per recipe so i dont need to grab three bottles and measure out their ratios every few days when i get to mixing to preserve those fragile flavors banana strawberry blends are my favorite.
Did you maybe lower your nic? I went from 18 to 12 to 6 to 3, all mtl. And with each nic lowering, flavor also "faded".
Sometimes... I think it’s just a case of olfactory fatigue. The flavor molecules we use can be potent. It could also be a sinus infection in which you may or may not have other symptoms of. Be patient and give it time. Or change up your flavors and add in some new profiles.
It could just be something that will pass. I occasionally get periods of minimal flavour. I can still taste top notes faintly but all nuance to a recipe disappears. It sucks man.
Some folk drink pickle juice and stuff and apparently that can help (it's also full of electrolytes which is nice) Sparkling water is meant to be good as well. I just ride it out and vape my least favorite thing untill it passes.
What RTA you using actually? And what wire for coils?
