Will USPS still ship DIY supplies?
submitted over 4 years ago by Smells_like_ChildrenMissing One Flavor

Am I still going to be able to ship DIY supplies through USPS? PG/VG shouldnt be a problem but I'm curious about nic/flavor concentrates

Wish we knew, thinking pg, vg and flavors should be ok because those can be used for "candy making" but nic I'm willing to bet will get taken out for sure. I bought a few gallons of 100mg before the pmta deadline, and I'll likely be ordering a couple more.

Damn, I picked a hell of a time to start trying DIY. I'll probably stock up on nic/flavors instead of premium juice

That's a smart thing to do, I stoked up on juice like Jan-march but started diy in July, now I dont even like all the store bought juice I bought cause it all just tastes too sweet and ruins my coils 😹

Store bought juice is at least 2% sweetener or more .5-1% is perfect . Sugar up the juice make you buy more coils . Everything I do is DIY for years !

You buy your nic in gallons?? Would it not go bad long before you had the chance to use it all?

It keeps well in the freezer.

Well ones not being used went straight into the freezer, never opened. And ones I'm using I've decanted into amber glass bottles with polycone lids, also displaced the air in the bottles with argon 👍 people in australia who've had to buy nic for a long time have said they just kept a liter in the closet and it lasted well over a year

Did you put it in the freezer in the plastic it comes in? Wondering if I need to do the amber glass step for an unopened gallon. Not sure if the plastic would crack or otherwise damage it.

OK I have questions king Cyrus:

  • What do you mean by decanting nic into amber glass bottles? Is that just literally pouring them in?

  • How do you go about displacing the air using Argon? Where do you get argon and how do you do it?

Thanks mate-

The law directs USPS to promulgate policy, the exact wording of which remains to be determined. If we're lucky, it'll affect only ready-to-use consumer products intended for vaping. VG, PG, thermal resistance wire, cotton and food-grade flavor concentrates will be fine in any case. As for nicotine concentrate, keep your fingers crossed while stocking up just in case.

Note btw that existing USPS HAZMAT policy has always prohibited shipment of nicotine concentrate in excess of 5% (50 mg/ml) and some vendors seem to have been doing so anyway.

Is this just for USPS, or will it affect UPS or Fedex from delivering it?

Fedex fell in line immediately, if UPS doesn't they'll probably raise their rates for vendors because they can

FedEx is killing vape supply as well, I imagine the rules will be quite similar to USPS. Not sure about the other

I don't get why fedex would decline business. I don't get it.

Would it be illegal for a citizen to cross state lines with boxes of juice? I bring it up bc I would be willing to pay some money for the services of a huge smurf network for vaping supplies. Like a Postmates for juice.

For personal use, no. To sell, it becomes a sales tax issue. The next step would be states imposing further taxes on nicotine products - think cigarette stamps. Evading a sales tax would be bad, but a tobacco tax would be worse, especially if they assign it to a Federal agency like ATF. It looks really bad, but I just don't have any faith in government being able to effectively manage this problem. You can buy fake watches and branded goods from China and it will clear customs, you can buy Cuban cigars from Switzerland online and it will clear customs. I just think that there will be a workaround for liquid nicotine, whether it's buying it from a brick and mortar retail location or obtaining it via illicit shipping. For instance, if VG and PG are legal to ship, then ship VG and PG; if it has a white top, it's VG and PG, but if it has a black top, it contains nicotine too. People need to keep their heads up. Where there's a will there's a way, and I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Sorry, just learned that smurf networks are a real thing. I thought it had to be a spellcheck misfire.

Okay, I'm late to the party I guess. What happened that makes this a concern?

Components for DIY vaping are used in too much other stuff to be regulated like tobacco. The only thing I'd worry about are devices and nicotine.

If America will pass this then order from Canada or UK. U better be storing nic in the fridge or it will dissipate and be garbage. Pure NIC u need a license to buy or ur just buying a dilute form. That all changed after someone mixed and it absorb into skin and it will kill you at pure concentrate

The primary reason for classifying vapor products as tobacco products is that they can put the same restrictions and the same high taxes as for tobacco on our product. Unjustified and unjust. But hey, it's "tobacco"!
