As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

I have 3 . . .
PUR Marshmallow - it tastes like a flavor waiting for a Trinity to happen. It does a decent job of the soft gooshy middle of a marshmallow - but there's no powdered coating. I use it like a thickened version of CAP Super Sweet - when I want to add body and sweetness to a mix. The flavor is mellow enough that it doesn't get in the way.
TFA Toasted Marshmallow - This is a really good flavor. But it doesn't go quite far enough into "Toasted" for me. This is more of a light brown toast - I prefer it a bit darker. One day I want to add a few drops of VT Scorched Caramel to push it into darker toasted territory.
FW Marshmallow - This reminds me of the old fashioned marshmallows I used to eat like candy when I was a kid. == THESE == . It's the flavor I associate with "marshmallow" the most. The flavor lives in the same neighborhood as vanilla, but on a different street - and it's really good!
Totally agree that PUR Marshmallow is hanging out to be a trinity!
How's about
PUR Marshmallow 4%
OOO Powdered Sugar 1.0-1.5%
OOO Vanilla Marshmallow 2% or FLV at 1%
I'd be tempted to add 0.5% FA Cream Fresh too..
off the top of my head but what'd ya recon? What would you add? I might have to play around later this arvo..
I'll tell you what, I get a strong marshmallow vibe from SSA Cornish Cream. To me it's a cross between FA Vienna and OOO Vanilla Marshmallow. Got a hella thicc mouthfeel too, that flavour does!
I don't have OOO Powdered Sugar, but everything I've heard about it says it's a perfect fit. I think you'd want to add the "marshmallow flavor" that FW Marshmallow has. I'm tempted to use another flavor I've only read about - FLV Sugar Orchid. - a neighbor of vanilla (something to mimic the taste of the mallow plant)
You can't really decide what's your favorite pick when it comes to Marshmallow, there are decent flavors out there.
u/ID10-T Can we please have Frosting/Icing on the week after Honey, it's been awhile since Frosting was on FOTW.
I'd rather that we do Frosting/Icing instead of honey (I hate you /u/OdieDoodah ) but sure, we'll do it after.
Recently tried Flv Marshmallow Vanilla. It’s amazing. Idk how I went without it.
I hear so many talk about it...
I have FA, FLV, Toasted TFA and Vanilla OOO, and now i need Vanilla FLV too?
I’d say so. I rarely use marshmallow anymore but this one and OoO both still get used. I mostly use Flv’s since I’ve gotten it just because it adds that sweetness and mouth feel you’re looking for without muting other flavors. Tfa and Fa are excellent in their own right. ESP if you need to knock off some rough edges and smooth some of the sharper notes. Just my own opinion
Marshmallow is a flavour I don't know how to work with yet. I've learned to use TPA to mellow down sharp flavours, FW tastes to me like marshmallow tasted like 25 years ago at least on the hand but I haven't yet used it. sorry not much of a contribution, but I'm looking forward to this one.
I find TPA Marshmallow to have many uses, but it's not really that amazing as an actual marshmallow to me.
WF Marshmallow (Candy) seems interesting, but I have a feeling it may be more like a cereal marshmallow than an actual marshmallow.
Looks like I need to get some FA Marshmallow.
Whats the fuss about marshmallows? Am i missing a lot by not using them?
I needed this thread so badly! Ive been searching for the best marshmallows to buy. I've been using TFA, but it's almost time to re up, and want to explore other options...
P. S. I use it as a sweetener in a lot of mixes. But mainly, I'm trying to create my own version of marshmallow milk. I got it pretty good ( better than the OG). But I know I can get it even better.
For the most part I've always used Marshmallows as accent/supporting flavors. I've never tried a Marshmallow based recipe, But then again I'm a Custard guy.
Marshmallow Custard sounds pretty good
Recently I've fallen into moderate like with FA marshmallow, I really like it as a texture. It goes really well with a fruit recipe I've been playing with. Sounds weird but persimmon and marshmallow, I'm going to make it happen for me. If this next batch doesn't come out like I want I might switch over to tfa toasted marshmallow, which I've never used, but I'm hopeful it'll be good. Now seems as good a time as any for a single flavor test.
FLV Persimmon (if it’s not too throaty for you), TFA Toasted Marshmallow, and TFA Kentucky Bourbon seems like it could be an amazing 3-flavor recipe to me, like Coop’s Kiwi Bourbon
Totally forgot I have a bottle of toasted marshmallow I had been hoping to test out.
From my general impressions, it seems like some use marshmallow as a fancy name for EM while others actually try to add a hint of cream undertones. Still on the hunt if anyone has recs for their favorite.
I just tried mixing bloody mango sorbet for the first time and off a snv the strongest thing I got off it is...aniseed.
Is that a note in flv marshmallow? I’ve tried everything else before and never got aniseed but I’m not seeing anyone else mentioning anise notes from it.
What vanilla flavors are you using? I get anise, not pepper from TFA VBIC.
No vanilla, just blood orange, mango, peach and marshmallow.

I've only tried 2 marshmallow flavours. FA Marshmallow and TFA Toasted Marshmallow. FA Marshmallow is pretty damn tasty, adds some nice volume. Toasted marshmallow doesn't really do it for me for some reason, although I've read good reviews so it must just be me. Will need to give the Flavorah offerings a go, all of their concentrates that I've personally tried have been bang on.
I have TFA Marshmallow, TFA Toasted Marshmallow (I just know someone is gonna talk about using this in tandem with TFA Kentucky Bourbon-and for good reason!), FA Marshmallow, and PUR Marshmallow. Regular TFA doesn’t tastes like a lot to me but it definitely adds something to a mix, Toasted is where it’s at, though.
Marshmallow seems like it can be an under appreciated flavor. It's such a useful tool in the right application such as adding sweetness or creaminess . So far I have Tfa marshmallow, Tfa toasted marshmallow, and Fa marshmallow. It seems I need to snag a few more to test out after this weeks fotw.
I just want s'more flavours. Just got 66 SSA flavours no marsh but the Bakery Oranges and the Purple Plum are mellow. I would like to see more SSA flavours sneaking in or even FLV flavours.... wink wink.
Ppl say I’m pretty mallow, but I certainly marsh to the beat of my own drum. Either way I love the white fluff!
Picked up FLV Marshmallow Treat, CSL Whipped Marshmallow, and WF Marshmallow (Candy) SC recently... might be time to get my SFT on!
Ooof, I could have warned you away from the Treat, it’s not FLV’s best work
FLV Marshmallow Vanilla has really nailed that dusting on the outside of the marshmallow. Among my marshmallow stash, this flavor is the only one to acheive that as well as it does. I'd vote for it to be in a Trinity. FA Marshmallow is my personal favorite, versatile and good all round. Have to say I haven't used Marshmallows in a while, they seem to be out of hype lately, along with other profiles that used to be popular like Cereals or Cakes, which used to be hugh in DIY...
Hope you have time to review some recipes, I'm in the mood to mix a some....
Love fa Marshmallow to add some texture and it feel powdery to me and a love it. Also love TFA toasted marshmallow. But I used WF marshmallow gooey and candy, flv vanilla marshmallow, ooo marshmallow vanilla and TFA marshmallow and I don't quiet understand what they do in a mix.....I didn't sft them...that doesn't help I know but I've tried many mixes with all of them and I still don't pick up what they do....all I know if is I use ooo too high, it mute the other flavors. I will definitely have to sft them.... looking forward to the show!
