Let’s use Brut force when we get fizzical with this Flavor of the Week
submitted almost 5 years ago by ID10-TWinner: Best Recipe of 2019 - Counter Punch

As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!

Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

#This week, this is also where you can comment to win the Beverage Type Flavor Pack ($70 value!) from Flavorah.

This pack includes: Brut Bubble Wine, Morning Mimosa, Back Bar Bitters, Bourbon, Citrus Soda, Coffee, Cola, Eggnog, Elderflower, Horchata, Irish Cream, Juniper Gin, Mocha, Raisin Rum, Root Beer, and Tequila Agave. That’s one hell of a flavor pack right there, folks!

Check it out, FOTW still features a neat poll where you can vote for your flavorites:

#DIY SURVEY - VOTE HERE PLEASE

##Be sure to SEE PREVIOUS DIY SURVEY RESULTS HERE

#This week's flavor is... CHAMPAGNE. Sip, sip, hooray!!!

Sorry, I might be a little champagne in the membrane today.

How did that get to be the FOTW?

It was requested!

>If you're not interested in the upcoming FOTWs, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that).

  • Past FOTW posts can be found here

  • The NOTED podcasts, which are basically video FOTWs, are listed on this sheet, maintained by /u/apexified

  • You can find these and more in a comprehensive collection of Flavor Facts created by /u/OdieDoodah

It’s been over three years since the last time Champagne was the FOTW. At that time, I only had TFA Champagne, FA Wine Champagne, FW Pink Champagne, WF Champagne Soda, and FLV Morning Mimosa. Since then, I’ve tried VT Blood Orange Champagne and Concrete’s One-Shot from Liquid Barn, Giant Swan. I’ll try to answer any questions anyone might have about those.

Now I get to add FLV Brut Bubble Wine, INW Sparkling Wine, and LA Sparking Wine, as well as Wayne’s one-shot from LB, Sang Pétillant, to my list of flavors tried.

I’ve also been looking for some new recipes to try that use some of these flavors. I think I’ve settled on sampling:

Ginger Peach Bellini

Mesters Bellini

Holiday Cranberry Gin Fizz

1 2 3 Poinsettia

Celebrate: Berry Mimosa

Mango Champagne

And

Rosa Resolutions

BUT if anyone knows of something using a champagne flavor I should mix tonight instead of one of these, please let me know. Or, just in case I wear out before mixing all 7 of them, tell me which one(s) you would prioritize, if you were me.

Based on personal preference - Holiday Cranberry, Poinsettia, and Rosa Resolutions all have FLV Cranberry (one of my favorites) and Berry Mimosa has FLV Boysenberry (another favorite). And the cranberries are a throw back to the recent Cranberry week.

I'm really looking forward to all of those, as well as the Mango Champagne.

I’d mix the Peach Bellini followed by Cranberry Gin and Mango Champagne.

So they renamed FW Pink Bubbly to Pink Champagne. I didn't notice.

Do you by chance have a classic mimosa like recipe in your repertoire? My wife saw this thread and is now begging me for a mimosa juice.

Rosa Resolutions looks delicious. Flv cranberry is awesome and my favorite cranberry out there, but of course I need to grab some Brut bubble wine to complete it. It's always one more flavor needed!

My latest use:

FA mango indian special 4%

TFA champagne 3%

FA lime tahiti distilled 2%

Needs tweaking but the base is there.

I've never had a good one, nor have I encountered true effervescence. Show us the way, O Bald Flavor God.

That blood orange flavor sounds nice, will be picking that up asap. Some of the mimosa recipes sound nice too.. Can't really comment on much else, not a very sought after profile for me. Thanks noted, as always!

looks like i need to get myself some of this bubbly flavours mentioned, they sound very tasty. especially the blood orange. i wonder which ones will be rated high in the upcoming episode.

The flavor profile of this pack is pretty wide. It looks like it’s a pretty versatile grouping.

There’s a few I have my eyeball on.

Just a thought - and not meaning to take advantage of BCF's generosity . . . the FOTW immediately before Black Friday should be something a bit more mainstream than Wine. Then we could all double dip from the Noted discount and the Thanksgiving sale.

Maybe next year some sneaky person will sneak in a request for an FOTW in gets black Friday shoppers more bang for their buck. In the meantime, enjoy your 10% off Sangria and Moscato.

I'd have to image this is purely a texture flavor group? Fruit flavor + bubbley texture... Might be a good way to add fizz to a flavor grouping maybe? I'll be watching for sure!

Ah shoot. I linked grunch last week not quite realizing what this week was. Duh

2 points

by ID10-Talmost 5 years agoWinner: Best Recipe of 2019 - Counter Punch

I second the Grunch! It's not the most appetizing name (sounds like a new slang term for a body part that can sometimes smell like a turtle tank), but that's some damn good juice right there.

2 points

by isuamadogalmost 5 years agoRenaissance Mixer

Who ever came up with that name sure is a clever man. Or woman. Or beast 😉

But for reals, grunch is the kind of mix that makes want to hang it all up. Super good.

Inw sparkling wine is pretty good. It has a bit soapy flavor far away in the background, but you stop noticing it after a few puffs. That soapiness can probably be easily masked in a recipe.

I've tried TFA Champagne and INW Sparkling Wine, don't get any effervescent or "sparkling" effect from either. Does anyone?

I thought the idea of vaping champagne was kinda gross, until I tried VT Blood Orange Champagne!

(My SF testing notes) Really great effervescence. It tastes like a Bucks Fizz but with blood orange cordial or squash instead of juice or perhaps a mix of squash and juice. It's pretty artificial and has the same sweetness as orange squash. The orange sits throughout the whole vape. It's intermingled with the champagne. The champagne note is really good. It has an almost prefect champagne-y, slightly boozy edge whilst still being very pleasant to vape.

FLV Brut Bubble Wine turned me on to how awesome alcohol themed recipes can be. Shit is a banger in the right mixes.

by sillysyl123almost 5 years ago

This should be some good research because I like Wayne’s blood orange champagne but it seems like a flavor I would buy five of and probably never use them. I appreciate you guys highlighting one or two bangers to try out.

I’ve only tried one champagne juice in my life and it was tasty but got old quick. Thinking about giving it another go as I’m getting bored of my custards and tobacco capes

Whenever someone mentions Brut, my mind immediately pictures that green aftershave bottle with the necklace on it from the 70s.

Is aftershave a flavor category? I'm getting tired of people saying they smell cotton candy when I'm around.

Again, champagne is way out of my wheelhouse, but i really enjoyed the wine episode way more than I imagined, and got me to buy a few flavors. I'm definitely looking forward to this champagne episode!

Not a fan of wine or champagne.. Maybe the fizziness of champagne can do something for me, but i highly doubt i’ll ever buy it.

I have one experience with anything alcohol vape related and it was not good. I have to wonder if any of the champagne-esque flavors will be more mild like a soda with like a dash of booze. FLV has had some real bangers so my money is on FLV being middle upper of the pack with Brut Bubble Wine, but Ill be honest that I'm too scared to try it myself. I'm honestly looking forward to it though. if I can get the taste of celebration without the hang over for new years I'm down.

I wish VTA would release pure Champagne on top of their Blood Orange Champagne. That would be quite useful flavor (but then again, that would most probably reduce that great effervescence).

2 points

by ID10-Talmost 5 years agoWinner: Best Recipe of 2019 - Counter Punch

Definitely agree! It's hard to tell what it would be like, but it seems like if they could separate the champagne from the blood orange, the result would be the best champagne flavor. As it stands, the blood orange champagne tastes great, but the orange is a little on the artificial side and limits versatility.

by hesherettealmost 5 years ago

so I haven't drank in nearly a decade & I definitely don't enjoy boozy flavors much at all, but I love the unique taste AND texture of VTA (VT?) Blood Orange Champagne! I've been using TFA Champagne to add a little extra oomph to soda type recipes & enjoy it but the VT "texture" much more!

EDIT- just read thru comments & noticed others saying the same thing about VT Blood Orange :D

I don't think I've ever tried a champagne juice, sounds really interesting though and there's a few flavors in that pack I've been thinking of trying. I'm just getting into mixing so my stash is pretty anemic.
