Cotton Issues With DIY Juice

Sounds like it's just got ALOT of sweetener in there. So basically sugar is caramelizing on the coil & seeping into the saturated cotton. That's why your coil is black & gungy. What if you dropped the "super sweet" out of the mix? I can't say for certain because I don't mix my own juice, but I've vaped alot of different juice & the sweeter the juice the faster it kills coils/cotton.

I refuse to use sweetener in any juices ever again. I used to in all my mixes, then tried them without it, and they all are actually better without it, I just thought it was making it good. I don’t think it’s necessary in anything imo also coils/cotton last WAY longer. But it’s your strawberry and sweetener most likely

Do you have any recommendations for alternatives? I'm the type of dude who eats candy damn near 24/7, so saying I have a sweet tooth is a gross understatement. Is there anything I can do to keep my juices disgustingly sweet without wrecking my shit in the process?

The best thing to do is to start slowly lowering the amount of sweetener that you are using.

You will be come accustomed to it relatively quickly and then eventually you won’t even enjoy it being sickly sweet.

I started off using an average of 1-1.5% super sweet, but now I can’t ever go above 0.3% FW Sweetener (I switched sweeteners because CAP SS has a weird off note for me).

Edit: A lot of flavours already have sweetener in them (like the majority of your recipe that you posted) so it will allow you to use less of a stand alone sweetener.

Honestly not that I know of, my friend is the same way, he changes his cotton and cleans coils every day sometimes twice (no exaggeration). But the only way I can make super sweet juice not gunk my coils/cotton is to vape a super low wattage/voltage, I’m a weird vaper tho, I like 3.2-3.3 volts, depending on coil, I’ve never in my life been able to vape above 4volts Idk how people do it lol

Awesome dude. Thank you for the response. I kinda assumed it had something to do with how ridiculously sweet I liked my juice but I wanted to verify it. Alas, I have to cut down my fat boy juice.

As someone who also tends to like sweet juices you can cheat a bit and still have clean coils. The key is to accent the juice with flavors that enhance sweetness and the profile of the overall juice flavor.

Personally I use cap super sweet, use it around 1 drop per 10ml. But anything around 0.25% is fine

For your fruity custards / baked things 1-2% TFA orange cream adds some sweetness.

For your fruit flavors 1-2% FA Fuji works well

For you non fruits, 1-2% INW shisha vanilla, but you to be carful with this one, it can really screw up a mix.

It's the cap sweet strawberry and sweetener. Your percentages are also a bit high. You want to check ATF for the average percentages.

Why do you think ATF is shutting down? Do I need to start a Recipe copy/paste marathon?

You should have already been doing that. ATF has been completely broken and queue let's it go offline often.

I usually try to base my percentages off of "e-liquid-recipes.com" but I'm not sure how accurate they are. And on top of that I do usually raise them a little as well. Is it possible that it's actually muting the flavors instead of making it stronger?

Yes. And contributing to off-notes. Use percentages from ATF. I wouldn't raise them by that much though.

Almost all sweetened flavours!

1% super sweet + all the other sweetener in your flavors. Don't want gunked up cotton after 15ml then drop the SS.

Yeah 8% cap sweet strawb that's very sweet as it is, adding 1% on top may be a MTL mix for pods.

27 bears is likely the culprit here. try making a small batch of the same recipe minus the 27 bears, maybe sub in some black current (yes I know it's nothing alike but black currents good in everything)

This mix is almost pure sweeteners, drop super sweet for sure, reduce the total % of flavorings to around 10%. Tbh the only thing that doesn't destroy coils/wicks in this recepie is the cactus. Sweet strawberry is strawberry with sweetener, bears is candy so sweeteners, super sweet is pure sweeteners ect, I'm guessing you were trying to make some sort of strawberry candy.

You hit the nail on the head. I was definitely trying to sweeten my sweet. Do you have any recipe recommendations for something a little easier on the coils but still has a candy vibe?

I usually vape menthol flavors but my fiancee likes sweet juices, one of the better ones I made was 3% inawera cactus, 2-3% inawera mango and 2-3% inawera coolada, you could drop the coolada if you don't like the icy effect, taste reminds me a bit of tropical style juice or gummy candy, hard to pinpoint, another one that doesn't destroy coils is 4-6% capella chocolate glazed donuts, sweet choco mix but not as "heavy" as most desert/bakery flavors. In general I noticed that inawera pitaya (dragon fruit) and inawera mango are very very sweet whenever i add them to a mix but they don't wreck coils, so those might be something you would like to experiment with. As for the candy vibe, only one that was sweet and candylike but didn't give me that Carmel burning aftertaste is blue dwarf by inawera, fruit bubble gum with something, it was ok but needed something extra and didn't mix that great with mint so I didn't experiment with it too much. Hope that helps :)

cut down sweeteners

Notwithstanding the very sound advice others have given to back off the sweetener, I would advise you not to be overly concerned with color. Rely on your taste buds to tell you when it's time to rewick, not your eyes.

Try wicking the cotton a little less tightly next go around.
