PART 2:

Noted Ep. 172: NON-FRUITY CEREALS (ft. Skittersmurf)

FLV Tricks Cereal: Discussed in more detail in the Fruity Cereals episode last week. SS found it very spicy at 4%. Couldn't get it out of the wick.

44.00

TFA Sweet Cereal Flakes (may also be known as Sweet Corn Flakes?): Emily would rank much higher. Thought the frosted note is on point. Almost has a tongue coating, powdery feel. Like a frosted Bran Flakes. Supposed to be Frosted Flakes. But to ID10-T tastes like Raisin Bran without the raisins. He didn't get any of the frosted element and found it cardboard-y. Thought it could be a great addition to a muffin to add bran. SS had TFA Sweet Corn Flakes, which is probably the same thing? He got a Corn Flake note, but wasn't very strong. Also got a good frosted note, like frosting and marshmallow. At 4% it started to almost get cardboard-y.

44.56

TFA Lucky Leprechaun: No real cereal. Mostly dehydrated cereal marshmallow. The room note is Lucky Charms. But vaping it it's a little off. The marshmallow is slightly odd. Could maybe describe it as being plastic-y, but not in the usual vinyl shower curtain cherry way. More artificial, tastes fake. Kind of tastes like the food colouring in the marshmallows. Has some body, thick. Even though it's dry, like a dehydrated marshmallow. Not at all harsh, especially considering the dryness. There's some cereal, but just a light hint.

47.02

WF Puff Cereal (Frosted): SS thought it wasn't too bad. The same rice note that WF Puff Cereal (Cocoa) has. Got more milk than the cocoa version. Really good texture. A little bit of frosting, but needs more. A fairly light flavour, seems like it would get lost in a mix.

49.02

MB Crunch Cereal: Ranked much lower. At 2% had barely any flavour. At higher % get a corn/rice mix, but still not very bold. Also got a really slimy, funky, back end flavour. Not pleasant.

51.00

PUR Cereal: In between a bran and corn flake. Dark and a bit nutty. Has a dark sweetness, not quite honey. It tastes pretty wholesome. Could be good in a granola. Has some texture, could be more crispy. But it isn't mushy.

52.10

TFA Honey Circles: One of the rare TFA flavours that is very potent. It's a dry, oat or multi grain cereal. A touch of honey that tastes like it's baked in. A lot of other honey cereals taste like the honey has been poured on top, which isn't accurate. No nuttiness, so not honey nut cereal. Could pair with PUR Cereal which does have some nuttiness. At 2% and 4% SS got a definite honey with a oaty, grainy background. But is not necessarily Cheerios. The honey gets sharper and more floral as % is increased. It gets far too strong, so don't want to use it too high. For Honey Nut Cheerios would only need to sweeten and fill it out a bit with TFA or FA Meringue, add a nut flavour like FA Almond or a little touch of TFA Toasted Almond to add nuttiness, some milk. A lot of people hate this flavour, probably because they tried it at too high of a %, like 5%. Or they tried using it at 2% in a recipe and it bulldozed everything. Could use it in a biscuit or cookie if you wanted to add some baked in honey. Potent. Probably don't want to use over 1%. Plenty of flavour at 0.5%.

53.46

OOO Honey Puffs: Has a great, lighter, brighter honey note. Not as dark as something like OOO Baked Honey Oats. It's almost like honeycomb. Like a honeycomb cereal. Very sweet. Not very dry or crispy, but not mushy either. Has some graininess. But the main note is the honey. Tested at 3%. Good % for it.

56.56

TFA Rice Crunchies: (Lost some audio) Does taste like cardboard up front with an authentic, dry Rice Crispies finish that can make it a pretty great ingredient. Really great texture. Like eating a plain rice cake. Can work great in recipes to give a rice note. But not much fun as a SF. Versatile. Can use with other cereal flavours, or in rice pudding, in conjunction with FE Sweet Rice. Could also use to make your own Fruity Pebbles. If you could find the right chocolate could use it to build a Chocolate Pebbles. Because it's so cardboard-y the one thing it probably wouldn't work for is a rice crispy treat. If you were using it as the lone rice flavour and mixing it with marshmallow and butter the rice is going to get washed out and it'll just be cardboard marshmallow butter. It is the perfect thing to use as a back bone for a rice cereal mix SS tested at 4%.

59.29

SSA (Sobucky Super Aromas) Classic Oat Flakes: Very potent. Dry oatmeal. But it did come across as a dry, genuinely oaty flavour. A real oat top note then a bland base. Touch of darker sweetness. As a SF was very boring, but as an ingredient it's going to have so many uses. Would be great oatmeal cookie. WF Oats and Cream Cookie would really benefit from some of this flavour. It's a great flavour, but could use more of an oaty back bone. Could mix with some milk and cinnamon or fruit to make an actual oatmeal. Combine with chocolate and peanut butter for a no bake cookie. Could use in a yoghurt parfait with authentic granola and oats there doesn't seem to be another flavour that would work for that kind of application. Until now there hasn't been a plain, authentic, raw oat flavour. Tested at 0.5%. Plenty of flavour, very potent.

1.04.16

OOO Oatmeal: Kind of similar to SA Classic Oat Flakes, but it's more bland and mushy. Not like just eating plain oats.

1.07.12

TP (Tasty Puff) Oat and Honey Cereal: Of all the Honey Nut Cheerios flavours tried this week is the most accurate. At 2% and 3% it's maybe a little heavy handed on the honey. A little smooth and a little soggy. Not as crunchy as it could be. Tastes like Cheerios and has the right nut note. Could probably just add another cereal for texture and some milk. ID10-T thought about mixing it with a cigar-like tobacco. Honey Nut Cheerio cigar sounds weirdly good. Or mix it with some pumpkin spice (FLV) and marshmallow for an autumnal cereal dessert bar.

1.09.28

OOO Marshmallow Cereal: A really good Lucky Charms cereal. Really does taste authentic. Has the right bland, lightly sweetened, oaty cereal note with dehydrated marshmallow. It's dry so needs some milk. Tastes like the cereal would get bullied by the milk and so would need another cereal flavour to back it up. Have to use at around 8% to get full flavour. Weak in concentration.

1.11.23

CNV (Chemnovatic) Corn Flake: A really good plain Corn Flake. No off notes from 2-4%. No milk, no sweetness. Tested at 2% and 4% (available at Chefs)

1.13.36

FLV Cinnamon Crunch: Excellent flavour, although not perfect. Close to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but just slightly misses the mark. It's not nearly as sugary sweet as the real stuff. When pushed up too high , around 3%, ID10-T gets a bit of a maple off note. Below 3% get a toasty wheat cereal with cinnamon and sugar. Just not enough sugar. Same cinnamon as FLV Rich Cinnamon (but nowhere near as potent) or FLV Apple Filling *...(audio cut out)...*Tastes great. It's imperfections only increase its versatility. Can be used in all kinds of bakeries like bread pudding, cobbler, pie crust. Anywhere some cinnamon and some toasty, bready flavour would be desirable.

1.14.40

CAP Cereal 27: Pretty boring as a SF but is the most useful flavour of the week that everyone should own. Even if you don't want to vape cereal. Can use in cookies etc to add crunchy texture. Mostly tastes like AP, but more diluted than TFA AP. ID10-T doesn't know why anyone would use AP when you could use CAP Cereal 27. It's sweeter, so may want to use AP in tobacco where you don't want any sweetness. CAP is more forgiving. AP becomes sharp and Frito-like very easily. It's too aggressive and very easy to over drip into a mix. ....audio cut out.... Can add to chocolate to give it a bit of snap. Can make creams more interesting. Very versatile. Delicious.

1.17.37

Summary of Best Flavours:

CAP Cereal 27 - essential

FLV Cinnamon Crunch

CNV Corn Flake

OOO Marshmallow Cereal

DEL Cereal Base - could be useful

OOO Honey Puffs

SSA Classic Oat Flakes - for anything oaty

PART 1:

Noted Ep. 172: NON-FRUITY CEREALS (ft. Skittersmurf)

(Episode Aired 13th October 2020)

(Ranked from worst to first)

HC Cereal: Not really cereal. A bready, crisp, toast flavour up front. May be a hint of corn? Sugar and butter underneath that. But very butiric. Prominent vomit off note.

5.50

OOO Cookie Cs Cereal: Butiric. Doesn't taste anything like Cookie Crisp cereal, or a cookie at all. Tastes like a little bit of cocoa in some spoiled milk.

7.26

OOO Golden Greats Cereal: Sickeningly sweet. Honey and brown sugar notes, like Golden Grahams has. A little bakery beneath that. But ruined by butiric. Maybe after a lengthy steep it may be alright? Has a touch of spice, which is not present in the actual Golden Graham cereal. But probably better off building your own Golden Graham recipe from scratch.

8.38

OOO Cinnamon Crunch V2: A nightmare! Tastes mostly like plastic. Like the new vinyl shower curtain off note from cherries, but no cherry flavour. A lot of a powdered sugar type sweetness. A hint of a vague nuttiness and a little touch of spice that might be cinnamon. No cereal, just plastic.

10.32

OOO Captain Cereal: Does really taste like Capt. Crunch, but only around the edges. The main body of the flavour is like putting brown sugar in a plastic container and baking it in the oven. Then breathing in the resulting mix of fumes. Plastic and brown sugar cooked and melted together. Really bad! Tested at 3%, steeped for 6 days.

11.40

MB Classic Cornflakes: At 2% Skittersmurf (SS) didn't find it that horrible. A fairly weak corn-ish flavour. But at 4% was funky. Had something on the back end that tasted like rotten fruit. Kind of like Fruit Loops mixed with rotten fruit. ID10-T got a cat pee off note that was more prominent than the cereal. So would be very difficult to cover in a mix. Tastes how cat pee smells. Clearly supposed to be a corn cereal flavour. But has a very floral honey. He also tested it at 2% and 4%. 2% was less offensive than 4%. But still like a cat peed in your cornflakes. Maybe at 0.5-1% could be an OK background note? SS and ID10-T tested it at 2% and 4%.

13.10

FLV Crunch Cereal: ID10-T got sweet fried mushrooms. At 2% mushroom flavour was overwhelming. At one drop in 10ml it still tastes like mushrooms. But there's more nuance like maple, maybe some corn based cereal, maybe some butter, maybe some brown sugar. SS got yeast and dish soap. He got a hint of fruitiness. But mostly yeast. Cheeba also got yeast.

14.57

OOO Cocoa Stones V1: Slightly burnt chocolate. Like when you're trying to melt chocolate but you let it get too hot and it gets a bit burnt and is ultimately ruined. Odd fruity sweetness. Thick creamy base. No cereal at all. Pretty moist.

16.47

OOO Cocoa Stones V2: Not chocolatey or cocoa-y. Something vaguely chocolatey about it. But mostly tastes like dirt with a non specific fruity sweetness.

18.24

OOO Rice Ks Cereal: NOT SAFE TO VAPE? Tastes smokey. Mostly caramel with a little dry bakery underneath. OOO is like a terrible version of WF Caramel Rice Crispy Treats. But the caramel tastes smokey. Like TFA Caramel tastes smokey. Not a pleasant type of smokiness. May have guaiacol in it? It is a component in TFA Caramel as well as TFA Hickory Smoke and TFA RY4 Asian. TFA describe guaiacol as woody, bacon, savoury, smokey and medicinal. It is also used to flavour things like whiskey and roasted coffee. So don't know why it would be in a rice cereal flavour? Guaiacol is apparently an extremely toxic product. So if OOO RKC does contain it it is likely not safe to vape.

19.54

Nic Vape Oat Circles: Smokey. Like a smoked honeycomb cereal. Does taste like a honey flavoured cereal. But there's too much honey. Like a real clover honey. Sticky and sweet. A little bit floral, but not perfumey or cat pee-ish. But also a little smokey. A little bit of grainy cereal. Powdery and sweet finish, like powdery candy. The only differences noted between 1.5% and 3% were the smokiness was a little less prominent at 1.5% and the finish wasn't quite so weird and powdery. There was also a touch of cinnamon that wasn't present at 3%. The smokey honey buried everything else more at 3%. Tested at 1.5% and 3%

23.37

FW Crunch Cereal: At 2% SS found it to be more of a butter cookie with coconut. At 4% again had heavy coconut and butter notes with heavy cream. No bad, but not a crunchy cereal. Could be used as a support flavour in a coconut cookie recipe. Both ID10-T and SS got a vanilla note. ID10-T didn't get any coconut (SS may be more sensitive to gamma octalactone?). Instead he thought it was like a vanilla marshmallow covered in toasted breadcrumbs. SS concurred with ID10-T's assessment. At 3% he didn't get any off notes, besides it being nothing like Capt. Crunch. When pushed to 4% started to taste a little earthy. Strange that they didn't do a good job with this flavour when FW Crunch Berry Cereal is so good. SS tested at 2% and 4%. ID10-T tested at 3% and 4%.

26.05

TFA Crunchy Cereal: Doesn't taste anything like cereal. ID10-T thought it was like a bad vanilla marshmallow flavour and gets a little sour and cheesy when % pushed up. Thick and has a lot of body. At 4% SS thought it tasted like Juicy Fruit gum.

28.27

TFA Cocoa Rounds: Emily and ID10-T would rank this low. But SS had it ranked as his number 1. At 4% he thought it tasted just like Cocoa Puffs without any milk. No off notes. He also tried it at 2%, was slightly mellow. Emily thought it was dry and powdery. ID10-T definitely got a dry cereal but him, Emily and Cheeba thought the chocolate was a bit weird and could use some help. Pretty Tootsie Roll-ish. Doesn't have the same chocolate Cocoa Puffs have. Has apparently been used successfully in recipes.

29.29

OOO Baked Honey Oats Cereal: ID10-T ranked it so low because of the lack of cereal. Emily really likes this flavour. While it's not as crispy as a cereal has a really nice darkness and sweetness. Thought it is what FA Breakfast Cereal should have been. Both agreed it's not Honey Nut Cheerios. More wholesome, like a hippy cereal. There is a little bit of a bakery/cereal-ish note, but it's barely there. Has some AP-ness. Mostly it's a sweet, sticky, dark, honey-ish, caramel-ish sweetness. Could use it as the sticky sweetness in a granola bar? Would need other flavours to provide the oats and nuts etc. At 3% ID10-T got a hint of maple in the aftertaste that wasn't there at 1.5%. Emily didn't get maple, but she's not as sensitive to that off note. People who are sensitive to maple and cyclatine should be aware of pushing it to high as may get maple. Emily tested it at 3%. ID10-T tested it at 1.5% and 3%

31.26

WF Puff Cereal (Cocoa): A pleasant flavour, no gross off notes. Has a nice texture. But needs more chocolate. Overall it's very soft. At 4% has the rice, a little sweetness, but not a lot of cocoa.

33.54

OOO Peanut Butter Balls Cereal: Absolutely no cereal or peanut butter. But it is a pretty good red skin roasted peanut flavour. Would probably work better for that than anything else ID10-T has tried previously. But may need cranking up. Very weak at 4%. At 8% was a full, deep peanut flavour with a little touch of skin. Theres a little touch of sweetness and maltiness. It's also not at all salty. But besides that it's pretty close to a roasted peanut with the skin.

35.56

FA Breakfast Cereals: Even at 4% was very weak and can't really figure out what it wants to be. ID10-T and Emily got coconut. It's going to be hard to find a use for it and there are better options. It's very wholesome, natural, hippy-ish. It's not very sweet. ID10-T got mostly a coconut cereal. A dry, toasted honey oat cereal with a lot of coconut flakes or maybe in coconut milk. Does have good texture. Could use it to back up another flavour and give it texture. Bizarrely FA describe it as chocolate milk with red fruits and hazelnut. At 2% and 3% ID10-T didn't get any of that. At 6% he did get some chocolate and nut. But not chocolate milk. More like a little Nutella mixed with toasted coconut and honey oat cereal. Absolutely no red fruit.

38.27

DEL Cereal Base: In between corn and bran flakes. A little bit sweet. Has some texture, but missing some crunch. Could use something like AP. Overall it's a pretty solid corn/bran flakes. Might want to use something to push it one direction or the other? A little dry, but very smooth. Could add some milk. Maybe some fruits or cinnamon or something? Pretty versatile, but lacking direction as it's both bran and corn flakes. Tested at 5%
