PART 2:

Noted Ep. 171: FRUITY CEREALS (ft. DuncanYoyo)

Tasty Puff Fruity Stones Cereal: Cheeba didn't get a lot of fruity flavour. Has a pretty good cereal texture. Could use some sweetener. Has a little bit of citrus, maybe some berry. but very hard to pick out the fruits as theyre so mellow. The actual concentrate is very dark. Tested at 4%

42.20

TFA Fruit Circles with Milk: Cheeba preferred this version to TFA Fruit Circles. The milk dampened the Pledge note. It's accurately Pledge-y, rather than overly Pledge-y. The cereal base is almost completely absent and lacks texture. The milk is very sweet. A bit more like vanilla whipped cream that has been left out a little too long. It's not too bad though.

44.09

FW Fruity Flakes: CONTAINS SUGAR SYRUP. Not safe to vape. ID10-T thinks it's very accurate to Fruity Pebbles. Maybe slightly too lemon-y. He probably wouldn't want to vape it as a SF Fruity Pebbles, but 1-2% to add a Fruity Pebbles note to a donut or milkshake etc. Emily thinks it is too harsh, too citrus forward and too Pledge-y.

45.35

FW Apple Jacks/ Apple Rings Cereal/ Apple Js Cereal: CONTAINS CINNAMON OIL. Will damage plastic and probably not the best thing to be vaping. ID10-T thought it was cardboard sprayed with a perfume that's loosely based on Apple Jacks. Emily got a generic store brand Apple Jacks thats gone stale. Very cardboard-y. The cinnamon on the finish is a little bit clove-y at 3% or higher. Cheeba got a fair bit of separation between all the elements.

46.42

DIYFS Interstellar: DYY would have ranked it higher, it's just not a fruity cereal. It is really good. Supposed to be Lucky Charms. At 0.5% DYY got a good marshmallow cereal note. At 1% was really authentic to Lucky Charms. The marshmallow was great. The cereal was really good, not at all cardboard-y. No off notes. Tested at 0.5% and 1%.

48.39

OOO Apple Hoops V1: Not very accurate. Has a citrus note. No cereal. But it is pretty tasty. The apple and cinnamon were pretty good. DYY and Cheeba got a hint of booziness. More like an apple cider than an apple cereal. Tastes like 3 cups of apple juice and 1 cup of lemonade, warmed up with a cinnamon stick. Tastes like something you'd add alcohol to. Or something you'd drink when you were sick.

50.02

PUR Strawberry Marshmallow Cereal: At 1% DYY got a frosted cereal. More like an oat cereal. A little bit of cardboard, but not enough to call it an off note. Artificial or freeze dried strawberry. Marshmallow was a cereal type marshmallow. At 3% It started to shine. Frosted cereal note started to become really present. Strawberry was more like a dehydrated strawberry, like you'd expect in a cereal. Reminiscent of Strawberry Cheerios, but like a Strawberry Frosted Cheerios. Could build a really good cereal recipe out of this flavour.

52.40

CAP Apple Snacks: ID10-T would have ranked it number one. Very accurate to Apple Jacks. The only issue is that it's slightly overcooked. Tastes a little toasted. Starts to almost taste burnt or overly toasted around 6%. At 5% it's just a little overcooked, but not burnt. The cereal flavour, the texture, the apple, the cinnamon, and the way it interacts with the apple is very authentic. Might want a little more apple. A brighter apple would make it pop and make it more interesting. But would make it less authentic. Could do with being a little sweeter. Maybe add a little meringue? If you wanted it with milk could use FA Milk or OOO Cream Milky Undertone with some FA or TFA Meringue to sweeten. Could also add another fruit to make a fruity Apple Jacks. Could use at higher %, over 6%, and add to a muffin or a cake. Use the overly toasted note for the outer crust? DYY got a butter note, but nobody else did. For him at 5% it was more butter than it was cereal. Tasty Puff Apple Cracks might be a good addition to help CAP out? Starts to get a bit overly toasted at 6%. Get plenty of flavour at 4-5%.

55.18

DEL Fruity Flakes: Just the fruity flavour, without the cereal, milk or sugar notes. Tastes a bit like Pez. But the fruity flavour is pretty accurate to Fruity Pebbles.

1.00.46

DEL Fruity Flakes Complete: The original with cereal and milk. Nobody had tried it, but seems like it could be a goo option for a Fruity Pebbles recipe. Especially as it doesn't contain sugar, like FW. As a rule DEL has a bit of an issue with texture in their flavours, they're a little flat, thin, lack crunch. But they already got the fruity flavour accurate and their milks are usually pretty good. If they can do a decent cereal note it would probably be pretty good.

1.00.46

FW Fruity Rings: Really good. But you can't push it too high as it's so bold. An in your face Fruit Loops flavour. By far the best Fruit Loops flavour ID10-T has tried, pretty much accurate. Sweet, slightly grainy. The lemon is a bit Pledge-y, but accurately so. It has some cereal, but could do with some AP or CAP Cereal 27 too enhance the graininess. Iff you were making a donut or milkshake with Fruit Loops on it or in it this would probably be the best option. Above 2.5% it starts to get overly Pledge-y. 1.5-2% is a good spot. Even lower if your using it in a mix and don't want it to be the main note.

1.03.15

TFA Fruit Circles: Emily and ID10-T would have ranked it much lower. Thought it was too Pledge-y. The corn cereal base is accurate, but a bit understated. Needs some help. But DYY uses it at half the % you would the FW Fruity Rings as it''s really strong. Around 1% would be the max. Him and Cheeba prefer the frosting note combined with the lemon and the cereal to FW. Between 0.5% and 1% it's a pretty solid Fruit Loops, especially with a weeks steep.

1.05.29

TFA Berry Crunch Cereal: ID10-T would emphatically rank it much lower. He got mushrooms. Cheeba and DYY didn't get any off notes. The top note is very authentic to Crunch Berry and finishes with a perfect grainy, corny, dry cereal base. But right in the middle ID10-T and Emily tastes prominent mushroom. Although it's not as prominent as it is in FLV Tricks Cereal. Above 4% DYY gets a cardboard note. But below that got no off notes.

1.07.36

FW Crunch Fruit Cereal/Crunchy Berry Cereal/Crunchy Cereal with Berries: Very good. Very accurate. Smells just like the real thing. Mostly tastes like it smells. Really nails Capt. Crunch flavour, which is a really unique flavour profile. No mushroom, but there is something a little earthy in the middle. Like a tiny hint of soil. But not enough to be off putting. Won't pick up on it in a mix. Easily coverable with another cereal. CAP Cereal 27 would work great. Adding some milk or cream could also work to cover it up. Probably wouldn't recommend it as a SF, but could easily make a really good recipe from it. A bit dry, but just enough for a dry cereal and gives it a crunchy texture.

1.09.20

CAP (Silverline) Fruit Circles: DYY thought it was the only Fruit Loops flavour that, as a SF, nails the whole profile. It really reads as accurate because of the lemon note. It's the perfect amount of Pledge-iness. The amount of it overall is just right. He doesn't get any other fruit notes besides the lemon with the frosted cereal. To Emily the lemon isn't strong enough or Pledge-y enough to make it authentic. Pretty weak, % has to be cranked up. Emily would have ranked it just below FW Fruity Rings as it's a good flavour, just not the best. ID10-T didn't think it tastes bad. It tastes like a fruity cereal. Has an accurate, sugar glazed, grainy cereal base. Has that mix of artificial citrus and berry. Smooth. The graininess is there, but has a creaminess. Like it has some milk but doesn't make the cereal soggy. But he thinks it doesn't taste exactly like Fruit Loops. It tastes like a generic store brand, knock off version. Or like Trix, Fruit Loops and Fruity Pebbles all mixed together. It does taste great though. Might be a better option than CAP Cereal 27 to help out some other fruity cereal flavours? Could add another Fruit Loops flavour, like a little TFA Fruit Circles or FW Fruity Rings, and push it towards being more accurate. Or add DEL Fruity Flakes as that is just the fruity top note. Just use the CAP FC for the spot on fruity, sugar glazed grainy cereal note it has. It's about 90% of the way to being Fruit Loops, it just needs a little push further in that direction.

1.12.09

Summary of the Best Flavours:

FW Fruity Rings

TFA Fruit Circles

FW Crunch Fruit Cereal/Crunchy Berry Cereal/Crunchy Cereal with Berries

PUR Strawberry Marshmallow Cereal

CAP Apple Snacks

DEL Fruity Flakes and maybe DEL Fruity Flakes Complete (although nobody had tried that version)

PART 1:

Noted Ep. 171: FRUITY CEREAL (ft. DuncanYoyo)

(Episode aired 6th October 2020)

(Ranked from worst to first)

OOO Raisin Flakes V1: (Not part of the rankings) Cardboard topped with cooked plum. Not terrible, but not authentic to Raisin Bran. More like a cooked plum as fresher and brighter than a prune. But not as fresh and bright as an uncooked plum. The base is straight up cardboard. Which isn't that far off from Raisin Bran. A little light and dry. Not a bold flavour. The cardboard could be covered with pretty much anything base-y. It's not a strong cardboard. Could potentially use the cooked plum element for a plum tart and cover the cardboard with a tart crust. Has a little of the mustiness that raisins have.

5.26

OOO Raisin Flakes V2: (Not part of the rankings) More accurate than V1, but probably less useful. Unless you just wanted to vape Raisin Bran. Like sweetened, soggy Raisin Bran. The raisin is still a little too bright, but is darker and closer in accuracy than V1. The cereal base is also more accurate than V1. It's still kind of cardboard-y but also has a little nutty, malty bran flavour. The musty note from the raisin is less present than V1. It's missing milk and some more crispy texture. It's quite soggy and lacks crunch. Could maybe be helped with some CAP Cereal 27 or AP? But could turn it from a wheat bran into more of a corn or multi-grain cereal.

7.35

OOO Fruity Stones V2: Really bad! May not be safe to vape? Separates very quickly. After shaking it up it was completely separated after around 15 minutes. Cherry shower curtain plastic and lemon Pledge cleaner off notes. Has some popcorn in there. Really strong plastic off note. Also has strong a savoury old fryer grease off note and leaves a greasy film in the aftertaste. Doesn't taste like it is safe to vape, as well as the separation issue.

9.27

OOO Slix Balls Cereal: Supposed to be Trix cereal. DYY thought it had a fruitiness, but also a weird, rotten, putrid note. Like a fruity dumpster! Awful. Cheeba and ID10-T would have ranked it above some other OOO cereals. But still thought is was pretty bad. Has a maltiness that is like Trix cereal. Powdery texture. The lemon is too Pledge-y. Tested at 1%

12.00

River Supply Fruit Crunch: At 1% DYY got weird floral note. Had some light cereal flavour with a marshmallow or frosting-ish coating. At 2% it was over poweringly floral. Almost tasted like a cheap cherry chapstick. Waxy, suntan lotion-ish off note. 3% was the same as 2%, just a lot stronger. Tested at 1%, 2% and 3%

13.42

Tasty Puff Fruit Circles Cereal: Funky. The fruit note wasn't lemon as you'd expect from Fruit Loops. At 3% was more like candy than fruit. Still funky and not very good. Tested at 3%

14.53

Bickford Fruit Circles: DYY gets chemical-ish off note from all Bickford. At 1% got slight lemon, but that chemically off note is far more prominant. No cereal. At 3% lemon note was stronger, almost starting to go a bit Pledge-y. Still no cereal note. Chemically funky off note is over powering.

16.15

TFA Silly Rabbit Cereal: At 1% DYY got a rind note, but from a fruit he's not familiar with. Also a bit floral. Sharp, pungaent note, almost like a pickled or vinegar flavour. At 3% it was all off notes. He didn't get any cereal from it at all. ID10-T thought it was like slightly soapy Trix cereal. He could distinguish the cereal and the fruits. Got lemon, strawberry and cherry. The cereal base doesn't have any crunch. At 2% he found it pretty mellow, not very bold.

17.57

PUR Fruit Circles with Milk: DYY thought it was pretty similar to PUR Fruit Circles but with milk that is slightly expired.

20.43

PUR Fruit Circles: DYY got some floral off notes. Emily got a funky earthiness. She found the flavour to be very muddled with a harsh, grainy lemon. Both got a freezer burnt cardboard. The fruit part of the Fruit Circles isn't that strong. DYY didn't notice any fruit until 2% DYY tested from 0.5% to 2%. Emily tested at 5%

21.44

OOO Fruity Stones V4: Lemon citrus, no real cereal flavour.

23.37

OOO Fruity Stones V1: Citrus forward. Mostly lemon with maybe a touch of orange. Not a great citrus. No cereal or texture. There was some fruit other than citrus, but it wasn't prominent enough to specifically identify.

24.51

OOO Fruity Stones V3: DYY found it to be very citrus heavy. Not a good citrus, tasted cheap. No cereal. 0.5% was pretty strong to him. ID10-T got straight up lemon Pledge. Extremely Pledge-y. No cereal. Bitter and unpleasant aftertaste. DYY tested at 0.5%. ID10-T tested at 2.5%. Cheeba tested at 3.5%

26.34

OOO Fruity Hoops V2: ID10-T got lemon Medicine. DYY got a floral, medicinal cherry off note. At 1% he got a cherry note but he got no lemon or citrus. Cheeba got some lemon at 3%. But it was pretty tame DYY tested at 1%. Cheeba tested at 3%.

29.25

OOO Fruity Hoops V3: At 2.5% ID10-T thought it was like wiping down a new vinyl shower curtain with lemon Pledge while chewing on an asprin. No cereal or other fruits. No cherry flavour, just the plastic, vinyl off note from a cherry. Sweet, but extremely Pledge-y lemon. Horrible bitter finish that tasted like eating an asprin. DYY got more of an orange/lemon citrus. Very similar to the V1. No cereal. No texture. Just citrus. The lemon was a bit Pledge-y. ID10-T tested at 2.5%

26.34 and 30.36

OOO Fruity Hoops V1: May not be safe to vape? Even after a weeks steep was milky in colour. ID10-T thought it tasted like greasy lemon hairspray. Lemon Pledge followed by lingering old fryer grease on the finish. DYY got straight lemon Pledge.

32.43

OOO Frosted Froops: Supposed to be Fruit Hoops. At 3% DYY was just getting a funky fruit flavour with a cardboard cereal. Very bland. Seems like if it was pushed any higher to try to get more flavour out of it the funky off note would get worse.

34.17

OOO Fruity Hoops V4: Least offensive of all the OOO fruity cereals. Had a distinguishable cereal note or perhaps a light bakery base. Tastes baked. Lemon a bit Pledge-y, but not overly offensive. At higher %s DYY got a floral note, almost cherry-ish.

35.24

FLV Tricks Cereal: Like Trix cereal with mushrooms. The Trix flavour is pretty accurate, but underneath that is mushrooms. At 0.25-0.5% ID10-T didn't get any mushroom, but didn't get much flavour overall. Just a hint of Trix artificial fruit cereal flavour. At 0.75% tastes like mushrooms. At 0.5% DYY got a pretty dark cereal note. But no fruit or berry. So maybe if used really low it could be a base to help build a Trix cereal? Maybe it's possible to use somewhere between 0.5% and 0.75% to get enough of that Trix fruity top note but no mushroom? Add another cereal flavour like CAP Cereal 27 to fill in the base. ID10-T tested it at 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%

37.06

Tasty Puff Apple Cracks Cereal: Hint of apple and cinnamon up front. The apple seemed like an ambiguous red/green mix. Then got a doughy flavour, rather than cereal. When DYY increased the % that doughy note buried everything else. Like Apple Jacks before they're baked.

40.02

OOO Apple Hoops V2: ID10-T would have ranked it even lower. Tastes like eating Apple Jacks by a tyre fire. DYY didn't get any burnt notes until 1%. At 0.5% got a pretty decent cereal note. More of an oat cereal or oatmeal than a cereal. He found it pretty strong at 0.5%. Definitely a red apple.

Totally agree with Odie! Really appreciate the work you've put into this.

Just FYI all your show notes are a little easier to find here: https://link.diyejuice.org/fotw

But obviously Flavor Facts is way more useful overall ;)

I’ll start adding that link as well when I post notes in the future- thanks. There’s only the most recent of the longer form notes on there. There’s notes on more episodes available on Flavor Facts. But yeah, I’ll definitely add that one too. Thanks
