Ive been using a placid clone juice for over a year on my trusty zenith pro tank with 1.2ohm coils at 8-9w on a vaporesso swag2. I just ordered a bunch of new diy flavorings and need a good flavor testing rda that I can test new profiles with. Ive never built coils but it looks easy enough. Id like to find a setup similar to the zenith and 1.2ohm coils.
What RDA would you recommend?
What coil build will get me close to the zenith and 1.2ohm pre built coils.
INB4, Wasp
MTL RDAs are a bit weird. Can be amazing, but they tend to have large juice wells that can hold onto juice if you don't rinse them out. You can use just a touch of cotton in the coil to test. One of the Berserker RDAs would do, or Cthulhu 1928 RDA, or Vapefly Galaxies. You can snag these cheap or cloned "styled" on Fasttech.
Honestly with MTL, I keep the juices simple so I just run them in my RTA. You can get a Berserker RTA and just deal with a little fuss testing flavors and maybe switch over to it.
I second the bezerker. Although like he/she said, the juice well is (well relatively) large. Personally what I do, is only put cotton in the part which actually holds the coil and not in the well and drip directly on the coil to test. YMMV because I’m using a wasp which is really easy to put the top cap back on. MTL is a different beast. That said, the bezerker will get you in the right direction without having to spend a ton out of pocket
What is MTL? I see it referenced a lot and can't find an answer online.
Sounds like there are quite a few RDAs that would work. I still dont know where to start with coils to get close to what I experience on the zenith 1.2s. Can anyone suggest a place to start on wire/diameter and number of wraps? From the innokin coils I know i dont like much lower than the 1.2s (they give off too hot of a vapor) and the 1.8s were just meh.
I like Vandy Vape's Superfine MTL A1 Kanthal Clapton wire. The "8.53ohm" line is the higher ohm wire.
If the vapor is too hot, turn the wattage down. Wraps, start at 6 and see how that reads. Maybe 8 if it's not high enough. I think I run 6 wraps for 1.4ohms.
It's also good to get some 26gauge and 28gauge kanthal wire for cheap to play around with.
Ohms matter more for how much wattage you have to push for proper vapor to be created. Lower the ohms with proper high wattage, more vapor. So high ohms, less wattage, less vapor.
On the lower ohm z coils I get muted flavors when I drop the wattage much. Maybe I'll have different luck with making my own on the RDA. I appreciate the suggestions on wire type and number of wraps. I'll look into getting a few different types, a jig and some cotton in addition to the RTA.
