Can someone recommend a cooling Agent?
submitted almost 5 years ago by Mamba_Lev

I got some Puffallo WS-23 30% in PG and adding it at 1% provides just the right amount of cooling but for some reason makes me feel ill. So could someone recommend a different brand please?

Thanks in advance.

Koolada is more of a ice effect on your tongue. While menthol is more on the throat. Mixing both is perfect. My spot would be .5-.75% koolada then pair it with menthol @ 1%. menthol.. usually that will depend on what type of dilution you make. Capella menthol is weak plus it mutes flavor. Works well with citrus though. I usually mix 69g of menthol to 31g PG to make it a 100ml menthol mix. This is where i based my 1% menthol.

Just to be extra pedantic and share some information:

WS-23 is not koolada. WS-23 doesn't have a menthol taste to it and only provides the medium to strong cooling effect.

WS-3, which is also known as koolada, has a slight menthol taste to it and is less cool than WS-23.

WS-5 is stronger than WS-23 but can become bitter at higher percentages. It also doesn't have a menthol taste AFAIK.

More Info can be found in this article.

Yes i think most of us knows that WS-23 is not Koolada. :) in Asia they often call this cooling agent as Chiller. yes you are right it doesn't have the menthol after taste.

i have used all of these. Koolada, Menthol Cyrstals, WS-23, here is my take from experience.

Koolada - more of an Ice effect on the tongue none on the throat.

  1. Menthol Crystals - more on the throat less on the tongue.
  2. WS-23 (Chiller) - this is like koolada with a bit of menthol cooling effect without the mint.

in my experience if you want a full satisfaction of that cool drag from the tongue all the way to the throat you go with koolada + menthol. Yes it will leave that mint aftertaste but that will disappear after 5 days of steeping.

I wasn't trying to say you specifically didn't know the difference. It's a pet peeve of mine and lots of people lump everything that cools under "koolada". And I think taking the time and clarifying it helps people make a better decision on what to use. I also took the sheer amount of people suggesting straight menthol when he was using ws-23 as a sign that this needed clarification. They are very different, and koolada is different to WS-23, which should be mentioned when reccomending it.

I personally like WS-23 the most as it doesn't change the flavor profile like menthol and, to a lesser extent, koolada does. If a recipe calls for menthol I'll use it but I don't just use them interchangeably. Everyone can of course do what they want, that's the beauty of DIY. But I think being exact is a good thing when it comes to mixing. That's why most of us use a scale for measuring instead of counting drops.

The minty taste of menthol doesn't just fade away. If you use it low enough maybe you don't notice or you get used to it and it can be a good combination. It does depend on the recipe though.

Menthol isn't a solo cooling agent. It has mint in it.

mint will disappear after a week of steep on a 1% percent mix. leaving you just the cooling effect.

Don't buy flavors or additives from Amazon. Try WS-23 from a reputable vendor.

WS-23 doesn't really have a brand per se. It should in theory be the same across the board. Where did you get it at?

From Amazon, but i have had Vampire Vape's flavours which contain it and never had an issue, so i thought it might be the brand.

Buy it from a reputable flavor vendor instead if you can. I recommend Bull City Flavors if you are in their shipping range.

Is this legit? I feel like that's how you fuck your lungs up. maybe it's a totally.legot way to.mske coolant but whenever people day shit like "ho just dilute some stuff in PG, add some extract or oil etc" I'm like lol gtfo. Rather not experiment with my lungs.

Like there was this idiotic YouTube video showing people how to make liquids. And they straight up used regular ass coffee to make a coffee flavor

It's not legit in the fact that menthol isn't a coolant. I'm not sure why people are recommending it to OP.

It is legit in that is how menthol is made. And other cooling agents, sucralose, etc

Whatever makes you happy. Totally up to you if you don’t trust the advise but this is how those coolants are made. It’s either trusting yourself or the company you buy it from. Like i said.. totally up to you.

That's how menthol flavoring is made usually.

Like others said, don't go for flavors on amazon, also a lot of people like mixing a 1:1 ratio of WS-23 and FA Polar Blast, I'm a big fan of that but I like a little more WS23 than polar blast in mine

Try TFA Koolada 1.5% is a nice cool. CAP Cool Mint is less cool but cool around the whole mouth more equally IMO.

Koolada is fine, but 1.5% puts my dick in the dirt. Try it under 0.75%

Ws-23 30% is a great cooling agent works well with anything and doesnt dilute the flavor I use it for desserts and fruits just adds that coolness so if you smoked menthol before vaping it will make it suitable for you because menthol dilutes flavor and changes the flavor. Cant just use Menthol and s'mores and get a good flavor but koolada s'mores and vanilla with some sweet cream and you got s'mores icecream.Hope this helps!

Koolada ws-23 I assume is the same thing I search koolada and that's what comes up but I've tried the 10% just wastes money. 3% with one and 1% with the other. Get the 30% and use less save money

And I get a great throat hit with the ws-23 30% at 1.5 in recipies and I used to smoke Newport's! Menthol kills any flavor you add. But high percentages of fruits like 8 to 10% with 3% menthol will make for an ok vape but a complex flavoring with Menthol probably wont happen.you use a few flavors together and add ws-23 the flavor will still be there. Menthol is like adding spearmint it just overruns the recipie.
