As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week, this is also where you can comment to win the Bakery #1 Pack ($70 value!) from Flavorah.

Last time Cereal was the FOTW, I had a fairly limited collection:
FLV Crunch Cereal - INTENSE MUSHROOM FLAVOR. Sweet fried mushrooms, left out overnight to get extra gross. There is no loving god or other benevolent force overseeing the universe. If there was, this flavor would never have been created.
TFA Crunchy Cereal - Bizarre. Not really sure what that is, but it’s not captn crunch or any kind of cereal I’ve ever had. It’s not horribly unpleasant, it’s just like... some extra dry dry vanilla? Snorting dried vanilla bean flakes? It almost tastes like a vanilla-flavored cereal marshmallow.
FW Crunch Cereal - It’s just... wrong. Sweet, toasty, vanilla. I guess there’s some cereal flavor or bready flavor in there but it mostly tastes like a very bad attempt to copy TFA Toasted Marshmallow. No real grain to it, doesn’t taste corny. It’s weird. Could find a way into a recipe because it’s not gross and has elements that could complement other flavors well, but it isn’t Capt’n Crunch. Odd, because Berry version is pretty solid.
TFA Rice Crunchies - It tastes like light cardboard with a rice finish. It’s not dark enough for regular corrugated cardboard box. Like cardboard with most of the flavor bleached out. That kind of light cardboard base can be covered up with other flavors easy enough, what rice is there is actually pretty authentic unsweetened dry rice krispies, that makes this terrible single flavor actually a pretty awesome ingredient. For just a touch of rice-y flavor to something like other cereals or rice pudding maybe in conjunction with FE/SC Sweet Rice for layering various rice things, or mix with fruits and other bakery or grain type flavors for a build your own fruit pebbles or chocolates for build you own cocoa pebbles. Because it’s mostly cardboard I don’t know about making a rice krispy treat out of it as the lone rice flavor with your marshmallow and butter, however.
FA Breakfast Cereals - Not everyone agrees, but I get mostly coconut cereal. Dry toasted honey oat cereal with bunch of coconut flakes? It doesn’t taste like cardboard, so that’s good, but I get coconut off note instead. It’s not unpleasant at all but not something I generally look for in a cereal. However, I think if you’re mixing a cereal with milk, that coconut might disappear into the milk or cream flavor. There might be a bit of corn in there as well but I get more coconut than corn. There’s a bit of malt and some sweetness that tastes kinda like honey, but more like baked in honey rather than an added-on honey. FA Description is very weird. Flavourart calls this "the flavour of chocolate milk combined with red fruits and hazelnuts." I am getting literally none of that at 2 to 3%. I had to push it to 5% to get anything like chocolate or nuts out of it at all, at that point it starts to taste like a little bit of Nutella mixed with toasted coconut honey oat cereal. Maybe I’m broken, but the “red fruits” thing never made any kind of appearance at all.
TFA Lucky Leprechaun - Mostly just dehydrated cereal marshmallow. The marshmallow tastes a little odd, cleary a marshmallow, but odd. I supposed a case for authenticity could be made, that that oddness is the food coloring? Does have some body to the marshmallow, it’s a thick flavor, but dry. Not at all harsh, especially considering the accurate dryness. Out of balance, with very little cereal, but just a light hint of lightly toasted oaty cereal.
TFA Sweet Cereal Flakes - Supposed to be frosted flakes but it’s way, way off. Not really getting any sweet. Tastes like raisin bran sans raisins, just bran flakes. It’s dense but not really crunchy, and a bit cardboardy. I would maybe add it to a muffin recipe to get that bran flavor, or build raisin bran out of it.
TFA Honey Circles - Doesn’t really taste like honey nut cheerios. At 1 to 2% I’m not getting much of anything honey or nutty; just a dry unsweetened oat or multigrain cereal that come on a little too strong in a sharp way. Actually sweeter with a little baked honey coming in, also smoother, at half a percent than at 2%, where it’s a bit too dry and sharp, and a little weird. And without a great reduction in the overall amount of flavor at 0.5%. So I’m thinking half a percent for this one and probably sweetening it up and filling it out more with some Meringue would be the way to go for this one. And some milk because it’s super dry.
CAP Cereal 27 By itself it just tastes like toasted cornflakes, and although there’s definitely quite a bit of other stuff in there, it mostly tastes like acetyl pyrazine but much more diluted than TFA 5% AP. IMO it’s probably one of the most most useful ingredients ever. BUY THIS NOW. It can go in just about anything. Very obviously cereals, but any kind of bakery, chocolate, creams, anything really except maybe beverages, non-chocolate candy, and fresh, bright fruits without heavy creams. It is kinda sweet, but not very, it emulates the natural corny and a slightly malty sweetness of cereal.
FLV Cinnamon Crunch - Fuck yeah, delicious. It really tastes like cinnamon toast crunch cereal, with just a hint of a maple off-note when pushed up too high. Toasty wheat cereal with cinnamon and sugar in and on it. It’s not as crunchy, it’s not as cinnamony, it’s sweet but not quite as sweet as CTC, but it’s a solid cinnamon toast crunch that can easily be improved and it can be quite useful in all kinds of bakeries, bread pudding, cobbler, you name it. Anywhere where cinnamon and toasty bready flavor might be desirable.
Since then, I’ve only added a few more to my repertoire:
MB Classic Cornflakes - This is a garbage flavor. Clearly a corn-based cereal flavor but that corny cereal is partially hidden behind a strange, strong, and very floral honey flavor, like honey infused with rose petals. Just get CAP Cereal 27 if you want corn flakes. Seriously. It even gave my room some of that cat-pee honey room note. Terrible.
Nic Vape Oat Circles - Unbalanced with too much honey, but this honey is more of a floral clover honey that’s sticky and sweet but floral yet also slightly smokey, with some cereal behind it, and a weird powdery candy finish like sweet-tarts. It mostly tastes like Nic Vapes Real Honey, which is great for a honey flavor because it’s a clover honey but not overly floral. It’s smoky but doesn’t have a perfumey floral off note or those weird gross cat pee flavors that other honey flavors have. It's like smoked butterscotch but smoked honey instead. Limited utility for sure but seems like it would be great in certain profiles, especially tobacco. However, in the Oat Circles, the grainy cereal behind it tastes like cheerios but is weak, and the Real Honey’s odd smokyiness doesn’t fit with it AT ALL, and that sweet candy finish that might be great in a powdery candy is even more strange and out of place. I can’t think of any use for such a weird flavor.
OoO Baked Honey Oats - Sweet sticky dark honey-ish caramel-ish sweetness more coated than baked in. Strong flavor, a little sharp, and that extra dark sweetness along with that sharp bitter edge makes it taste more like molasses than honey. This is followed by drier bakery that isn’t quite oats or cereal, more like an nondescript bakery, and a kind of buttery finish. OoO advertises a “a smooth milky finish” and I agree it finishes very smooth, but it tastes a little more like old butter than fresh milk. Hint of maple in the aftertaste, but only very lightly. Full mouthfeel, lots of body. It’s not terrible but it’s certainly not spot-on honey oat cereal.
Tasty Puff Oat & Honey Cereal - A little heavy handed on the honey, like putting extra honey on honey nut cheerios, smooth and a little soggy for cereal, but the closest of these types of flavors I’ve tried to actual honey nut cheerios. Add a little Cereal 27 for more texture and some FA Milk for a straight up honey nut cheerios vape. Mixing it with a cigar like tobacco because honey nut cheerio cigar sounds weirdly awesome to me. Maybe mixing it with pumpkin spice and marshmallow flavors for some kind of abstract fall thing.
But this week I get to try a bunch more: WF Cocoa Puff Cereal, WF Frosted Puff Cereal, HC Cereal, SSA Classic Oat Flakes, TFA Cocoa Rounds, OOO Captain Cereal, Ooo Cinnamon Crunch Cereal V2, Ooo Rice K’s Cereal, OoO Cookie C’s Cereal, OoO Peanut Butter Balls Cereal, OoO Cocoa Stones V1, OoO Cocoa Stones V2, OoO Marshmallow Cereal, and OoO Golden Greats Cereal. Should be interesting!
> FLV Cinnamon Crunch
What % are you using for this on its own. What do you recommend pairing it with?
4% by itself, if you’re looking for things to mix with it, CAP Cereal 27 or TFA Acetyl Pyrazine for more crunch (various biscuit and cookie flavors might also work), FLV Rich Cinnamon for more cinnamon, your favorite milk or sweet cream flavors. Sweetener. But that’s all pretty obvious, if you want to get more creative I’ve found it also goes well with nuts (especially almond), apple, pear, peach, pudding, and tobacco.
Yum! You know you’ve had enough when your pee smells like golden crisp lol.
You won!
I use the hell out of CAP cereal 27!
Mixed with FLV marshmallow and CAP golden butter it makes a super tasty rice krispy treat base.
Added to FA zeppola it makes a dense cake like texture that rides the exhale wonderfully.
Used with CAP sugar cookie and OOO sugar butter cookie it makes a delicious pie crust.
:) I am happy.
Honestly, I didn’t even realize there were so many cereal flavors. I’ve got fingers crossed something hits the mark and is an all inclusive flavor. I’m not feeling trying to build stuff from scratch these days.
Also, so agreed about cap cereal 27. Very useful flavor and I really need to try a bit of it more in mixes when a bit of ap is called for.
I dont understand the mushroom thing in FLV, why is that a thing? I honestly didnt believe anyone about the off note, and I was sooooo wrong. I bought it just to see and thats a mistake for anyone dumb enough to buy this. They did get the cinnamon cereal right though, really like using it with TFA banana cream and banana bread for the cinnamon note. I still need cereal 27 though, haven't gotten around to that one unfortunately.
So far I've only tried Cap Cereal 27, which is great, and FA Breakfast Cereal which I like a lot, only problem I have with it other than harshness is that as good as it is it gets really boring really quickly, anyone else feels the same? just me?
maybe I just don't know how to use it yet.
Back in the day, it was a cereal (A spot-on, non-berry'd, Cap'n Crunch) that got me to start replacing analogs with the vaporz. I've been meaning to revisit the profile, now that I am mixing more. Will be paying attention this week!
Besides, one never knows when a good, non-fruity mushroom flavor may come in handy! 😂
CAP Cereal 27 has never disappointed me. I've mentioned in the previous FOTW Sadlad Toast Crunch I do highly recommend this recipe to everyone.
Well here we go now. I might actually be able to make a Popeye Sweet Crunch recipe out of these ones. If I'm going to have a cereal flavor, it's going to be grain-heavy with some nice brown sugar, cinnamon, or maple notes. This should be good.
Also I've been majorly slacking lately. I keep buying all these flavors to try out new recipes, and then I just end up making the same 2 recipes over and over and over. "Ooooh that sounds good, let's get that", then it just sits on my shelf unused. It's like a physical manifestation of my damn Steam backlog...
Just got TFA Lucky Leprechaun from a friend. I hope that it is useful in some way. Haven't opened it yet or SFT. ID10-T's note: Odd dry marshmallow toasted oaty cereal.... Not promissing ;-)
My white whale, what started me on the diy journey is a simple Frosted Flakes. Sweet crunchy Frosted Flakes, no caramel or honey undertones. Simple cornflakes sweetened. There is a commercial juice, frosty science, that is my all time favorite commercial juice. (Along with the strawberry and banana version of the same) Acetyl Pyrazine gives the right note, but is missing something. TFA sweet flakes is ok, but again not what I’m searching for. Delosi cereal base is good but also missing something, cereal 27 has a honey flavor, one on one had a corn flakes, but they discontinued it. They have a speckled flakes that while it’s good, is also missing something. TP, for all the cereals they make don’t have one. HC, cereal, is the strongest corn flavor I’ve tried, even at 1% of a 10% dilution it Hijacks a recipe, I find it’s better for a corn bread. MB, oh for the love of god I feel bad for anyone who tries that. Even smelling it is nauseating. CNV has a good one, but still, I think it has honey or something that keeps it from being light. So, while a few are dreadful, some are good, most are just passable, none are just right and the white whale for me remains illusive.
