Take a copy of your Lease to the Post Office that delivers your mail and put in a service request to have the box re-keyed. The PO should send out maintenance within 24 hours to re-key the lock and deliver new keys to your office. Sometimes the person you get at the PO will be less than cooperative. Be polite but determined. If they "own" the clusterbox they can re-key it for you. Should be like $20. I go through this all the time with commercial tenets in units I manage.
Just to add, if the Post Office doesn't own the clusterbox, a locksmith can change out the lock for you.
Hi. Mail carrier here.
If you catch the mail carrier they're usually chill about opening the stuff. Usually you can ask them or leave a note on the cluster box (CBU). If you have signed up for mail service, we are bound by contract to deliver the goods to the customer. If its your first time getting a lock changed (signing up for service) its a free key change.
If you've signed up for service and they refuse to retrieve your goods, call the district and file a complaint. The post office does not own the CBU, the neighborhood does but the post office is legally bound to deliver all mail and packages accurately by any means necessary
could he also just order more things until they take it all and put it in a plastic box at the post office before taping a strongly worded letter on his door to come pick up all your shit? solve things with more consumerism, like spending money to get dangly food stuck in a vending machine.
Time to crowbar open the illegal container someone placed your property in. If landlord has no access it must not be his.
I'd get my fucking mail if it meant a sawzaw. /s
I came to say this, but you beat me to it.
How do you not have access to your own mailbox?
Doesn’t that mean mail addressed to you is being prevented from being delivered to you?
yes it does
That sounds illegal on your landlord's behalf
Was thinking the same. Renter's rights issue if the usps doesn't take care of it for op. Sounds like they've gone above and beyond what you would expect a tenant to do with the repeated requests to the Post office.
Not american or anything but as a tenant shouldn't you have access to your mailbox ? Sounds illegal to me chief
yes. I should. but everybody I ask says to ask somebody else lol. dont even know how their still shoving mail in there there has to be no room left
Before you take any power tools or a crowbar to your mailbox, try and check and see who the mailbox is owned by. Sounds weird but a lot of the time, mailbox banks at apartments and things of the sort are actually owned by the post office and not the landlord, and tampering or destroying them can possibly get you a Hefty fine.
Or, depending on how far it goes, it could be a felony
Thats why you wait til 2am to drill out the lock, make sure there's no cameras and wear all black, with a hat/hood😊
I've never broken the law...
I’m a super at a condo building and the mailboxes in the bank are each owned by the unit they belong to as far as I know apartments are building owned.
Either way I would call a locksmith to pop the lock and replace it with your own then someone can chase you down next time.
stop calling about a lost key and start calling about a broken lock. at least that way you get your flavors.
use a drill to remove the tumbler. open the lock and while your at it remove the whole old lock assembly. when they ask about it you don't have any idea and just let them replace it.
right but they have to have tons of call logs back and forth so I'm pretty sure I'd be suspect
Order another one and wait for the guy to open the box?
