The Reference RDA (for me)
submitted almost 5 years ago by martedd

Hey all! My first shipment of flavorings is coming in very soon and I was wondering, what RDA would give me the best reference for flavor? I have heard of the Hadaly, but it’s a single coil. I vape on dual coils usually 70-80W anywhere from .18-.4 so I’m worried the experience will not being as satisfying and too airy. Anyone got a good recommendation?

I went the cheap route and picked up an ULTON citadel clone from fasttech to dip my toes into the water and see how I enjoyed it. Single coil, compact, FLAVOUR BANGER. I immediately grabbed the authentic from psyclone mods which was about 9x the price. But like I said, if you’re unsure about getting a pricey RDA, I’d go with a clone first and if you like it then buy the authentic so you can support the company who actually designed it. And I’d recommend the citadel as well.

Thank you for that. I just bought one at your suggestion. FYI I guess I should try the rebirth in single coil mode cause I rigged it to run dual fused Clapton's in stainless 316l and T C and it's forever spilling Juice out the air channels... which I will admit it is my fault. LOL

Glad I could help. I used to strictly run dual coils at like 130w, can’t even imagine going back now. Single coil gang till I die. You’ll enjoy the citadel not only for the flavor, but also the simplicity, ease of use, etc. Also, make sure you use that little yellow chamber reducer piece, flavor for days

Hard to imagine from the poor pictures how that yellow chamber reducer works with a coil on and wicking material in place. You don't happen to have a camera handy to upload a screenshot, do you?

If it’s just for testing there’s no reason to use a dual coil RDA. If you test like me an extra coil to wick is just too much of a waste of time and labor. I’d expect if you get a satisfying vape from a single coil RDA you would get the same flavor from a dual coil

The point of single coil RDA's in my opinion is a reduced chamber and usually less airflow, so at least in my experience single coil is more flavorful and much less airy.

Wasp Nano would like a word with you

by XleaDrofalmost 5 years ago

I used Wasp Nano as my daily banger for like 2 years lol, it is the airiest of the single coils. Currently using a Basic 2.0 by 5 A's, great little atty

by Alb3rtixalmost 5 years ago

The Basic V2 was a great surprice. Perfect airflow for me in the standard configuration and great flavour. Perfect for squonking. I bought a second one.

It demands a lot of metal because it's so airy even at a quarter closed . Triple fused clapton 26/38 spaced is a nice build because the posts are ridiculously wide and the space in the deck is so intrusive, I don't know how to words, I mean there's small space. Flavor just goes straight to the top, atty is 22mm, and if it's too hot you can put a tiny drip tip on it

Here's a 3.5mm build

And a pretty drip tip

I stole this tip from my GR1 and further reduces air from the wasp. You can also counter it with an entheon/hadeon top cap

It's also a single coil rda, but the asmodus c4 produces fairly decent taste with a pretty dense pull for what it is.

Yes I like mine it's a small rda almost can't help but get good flavor

Been using the asgard mini and the RDA4Vaping. Both give me really full punchy flavor just different airflow 👍

Beat me to it, I second both of these dual coilers

Ohh i was gonna get coilturd rda but someone told me get asgard instead. I have my asgard but i still keep using my wasp

Asgard is life. But SFT I’m still on the citadel.

Both r amazing a must get for anyone that doesnt have one plus pick up the series deck for the Asgard, i have 4 mini's and 3 of the 30mm.

If you want the overall 'best' flavor, look into a Hadaly or Citadel. Sure, it's single coil but throw in a fused clapton and the flavor just explodes. I typically run a 28x4/38 ni80 coil, ~.2 ohms and 60w.

For dual coils, the original Recoil (I own 4 of them) You should be able to still pick one up at recoilrda (dot) com. The chamber is super condensed yet smooth airflow for good clouds and pretty decent flavor (not as good as the two atties mentioned before though)
Really, it's good to test your mixes in different atomizers to see what changes

I like it. Stole it from my Mission XV Daywon clone which I like a lot but with only one airflow slot it’s a bit restricted. Drip tip is from Gas Mods GR1

I have the drop , the bonza , the rebirth and the capstone. The rebirth has the best flavor in my opinion. From what I've used the rebirth is best on flavor, so much so that I was dissatisfied when I bought the bonza and used it.

1 points

by Drocaanalmost 5 years ago

Single or dual coil, kinda tough to build on for me. But once I got it it was really good.

2 points

by Jd_ironlifealmost 5 years ago

I seem to get better flavor with a single 4mm ID coil in the Rebirth. For me, flavor was always kinda muted with dual coils. Probably just didn't position them right.

1 points

by Drocaanalmost 5 years ago

I use a fused Clapton at like .15 ohms That's my spot. At like 70-85 watts

1 points

by Terrorfarkeralmost 5 years ago

Where do you rate the Drop amongst those?

2 points

by ADeepCeruleanBluealmost 5 years ago

FWIW the Drop is my number one RDA out of about a dozen that I own or have owned. At about 70% open its the perfect draw between flavor and MTL feel and nothing else seems to be as good. I might buy like 3 more just so I have spares.

1 points

by Terrorfarkeralmost 5 years ago

I've only got the recurve and the drop as far as RDAs go, Drop was my second RDA, I have only tried a few builds on the Drop, currently running dual tricore fused ni80 claptons, I position the coils so they are pretty much in the middle of the chamber and then just have the bottom 4 airflow holes open.

Have you tried single coil? I wouldn't mind a build where I can use a bit less power .

2 points

by Drocaanalmost 5 years ago

Second behind the rebirth. It was my first rda I picked up. Has good flavor and airflow. Lots of space for coils. Super easy to build on.

I’d say the Oumier wasp nano, pretty cheap well reviewed flavor rda. If you wanted to puff on the flavor for a little while maybe a serpent mini, assuming you can find one.

I absolutely LOVE my dotmod single coil RDA, so much so that i bought my second one (which i use on my flav testing vape, Alien 220w TC @420F) and it just is awesome. One of my favorite features is it has a coil “mold” where you can press the tails in the perfect shape, so you just insert and secure. Also amazing flavor imo. highly recommend!

Can you think off the top of your head what coil setup you use? And do you keep the coil low to the deck or higher? It has such a sharpness to it I have a hard time getting past that to the flavor. I used to do well with them, I don’t know what happened. I loved them so much, I bought a few of them.

1 points

yah im running SS316 Vandy Vapes superfine MTL wire 6 wraps ~0.65 ohm. I use the deck guide to set the height. There are slots im the deck for the coil bar to fit onto to perfectly install your coil every time.

I guess that’s where I went wrong, I stopped using the coil guide, thank you for responding. I remember how much I loved them. ✌️

I am a dual coil RDA guy too but for flavor testing it is a pain. I have found that an RDA that will accommodate a 3 or 4 core fused clapton at 3.5 to 4mm will give a close enough experience.

The Drop RDA works well with 3.5 to 4mm single coils, you will get the hot vape you are use to and good flavor. Really easy to rewick as well, that will be important over time.

I do have other RDA'S I will use to SFT my flavors but for getting close to a dual coil with the ease of single coil the Drop works best for me.

If you don't have an Asgard I would highly recommend it, just not as convenient but what a great RDA in both the 30mm and 25mm.

30mm is a huge topper. Happy you like it

Nudge 24 is probably the best cheap dual coil rda I've used. Its a little bit of a pain to put the coils in, but the flavor is great

1 points

by kuri_sanToualmost 5 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

I believe there's a Nudge 22 and a guy I know acquired one used

1 points

by 3chidnaalmost 5 years ago

Yeah. Theres a 22 as well. Its not too bad. I thought op was asking for dual coil recommendations

2 points

by kuri_sanToualmost 5 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

Yeah, he is. I was just piggybacking on the Nudge since I don't have either. I'm particularly like the size and the build deck. Apparently the 22 is out of production and noboby is making clones u/foment_life

My best, cheap dual coil RDA would be the Geekvape Loop 1.5. Insanely good for the price.

Ofrf gear rta

1 points

by kontraventionalmost 5 years ago

For single coilers I use an Elder Dragon rda primarily, Wasp Nano rta if I want a tank, Blotto rta is kind of a hybrid that I can use as a single or dual coil effectively. I bought an og Recurve (single coil) but it doesn't really do much for me, not for lack of trying.

Dual coil is either the original Drop or Variant. They are very similar in terms of airflow (both worked on by TVC) but the Variant has a tad smaller inner chamber and running stock has a tapered driptip so its better for slightly restricted dtl, also can be run as a single if you build big. Drop for anything from restricted dtl to wide open dtl. Every once in a while I'll break out the dead rabbit, but tbh its not the best for flavor.

If I had to live with one it would be the Variant or Drop, both are 1/1a depending on the day and you can't go wrong with either IMO.

1 points

by shakesandgainsbrahalmost 5 years ago

What build are you running in the variant? I got a couple of 3.5mm clappies in there with the bottom 2 rows of airflow closed as my sft kit

1 points

by kontraventionalmost 5 years ago

Pretty much exactly the same lol. Single core 36/26 kanthal 7 wrap 3.5mm id, running dual around .43Ω, bottom 2 rows cut off @75w.

I get the best flavor reproduction from my Stribog, Sichro and a close third would be the Venna. Both Basics as well as the KRMA and citadel are close behind

An RDA for vaping is my favorite dual coil. The air flow control rings make it so you can run any set up on it. The Asgard mini is great too and I love it. But the flexibility of the air on the RDA4V makes it just a notch better

1 points

by St1llFrankalmost 5 years agoThis flavor... This is not my kind of flavor

Hellvape Passage is a good cheap dual coil RDA. I like them. The airflow isn't as wide open as a lot of them. I get pretty good flavor out of them too.
