Capella dry/no flavor
submitted almost 5 years ago by jonastielemans

Hi,

I'm pretty new to making recipes myself, I have mostly made liquid with premade concentrates (Heisenberg, Red Astaire etc) in the past. Recently I've been trying out recipes with Capella concentrates (Pink Lemonade, Chai Tea,...) as well as TFP Raspberry Sweet. For example:

  • CAP Chai Tea - 4%
  • TPA Raspberry Sweet - 5%
  • CAP Pink Lemonade - 2%

However, when I try it, I get a dry vape with practically no taste. I have tried adding drops of concentrate to a small amount of the liquid, which added a tiny little bit of flavor but not a nice one at all. Still very very dry and rather chemical taste.

You would maybe think bad coil or wick, but I wicked it again with a fresh coil and still the same bad/no taste. On the other hand, other liquids for example with Heisenberg concentrate taste pretty full and good.

Tank: Wotofo Unity Mesh RTA

Any advice for a discouraged vaper?

Thanks!

Premade can have quite a lot of sweetener. No sweetener juice can seem dead boring in comparison, but after you adjust it's hard to go back.

First, most CAP and TFA percentages start at 5%. CAP Chai Tea - haven't heard good things about it. I have both TFA Rasp Sweet and CAP Pink Lemonade. PL needs to be up near 4-5% as a single flavor, and really needs something boosting it. It's weak on its own. RS... I honestly don't use it since I have better berries. Can't remember, but I can say it's not good on its own.

I think you have three flavors that need more support, and you're used to sweeteners to boost them.

Bull City has community recipe flavor packs, makes a decent starter pack if you pick a few recipes and mix them.

The Bull City Community Recipes are an excellent way to build out your flavor collection with flavors from various companies that you might not think to buy or try on their own.

Mixing the various recipes let's you experience first hand how these flavors are utilized and the roles they play in the overall mix.

There are several good sites for recipes as well as an Android app or two that can help you make your start on good solid ground.

Good luck.

Add Cap super sweet. 0.25 or 0.5% start there, go up of you need to.

Every recipe I tried without adding a touch of sweetener tasted dry. A little goes a long way.

Thanks for the reply! I think I bought TPA sweetener some while ago but haven't tried it yet. Is the CAP version better?

I prefer super sweet out of the two.

Tpa sweetener isn't just sweetener. It has other stuff that I have found mutes flavors. I usually use River Supply's stevia, Pur Super Sweet, or Super Sweet (I have found that when I use this 1 drop to 10 or 15 ml is fine for me)

Cap flavors are kind of hit or miss IMO but they're so cheap it's usually worth the risk. I actually have some CAP Pink Lemonade but I haven't mixed anything with it yet. I think their blueberry is good although not as good as FW blueberry, together they are very good. They're raspberry and strawberry are pretty good too. I think Cap flavors in general are better for mixing with other vendors. I've made a few CAP only mixes and I wasn't crazy about any of them.

TPA is far more consistent and better for mixing in my opinion. All of their flavors mix so well and they're just fine by themselves too. They're more expensive though so I still use mostly CAP juices but I always mix them with a TPA or FW juice to balance it out.

Cap flavors also can benefit alot from super sweet if you don't have anything else. Just don't overdo it, a little goes a long way.

TPA is not necessarily better for mixing. Every vendor has hits and misses. There are a few factors that go into making a vapable mix. I wouldn't recommend sticking to a single brand for any reason, regardless. There's no reason to do so

capella is less expensive?? average price for a gallon of capella is around $250 whereas tfa is around $130

oh damn I must be mistaken then. I only buy the small bottles and I have just noticed that most CAP flavors are dirt cheap. I think I payed $1.50 per bottle during a sale. I remember the TFA bottles costing more like $3 or $4 but I may have been mixing them up with Flavorah.

That was a single recipe you tried?

No, I also tried:

  • Pink Lemonade on it's own at 9%

  • 5% Pink Lemonade, 4% Raspberry Sweet

All turned out dry and pretty tasteless.

Will try only Raspberry Sweet too soon.

Some flavors are just not good. And some issues can also be attributed to overflavoring.

4% Raspberry Sweet is a bit high.

Have you tried adding 0.5% CAP super sweet?

I agree with everyone you have to reboot your taste buds most commercial juices have 2% sweetener

In my limited experience with Cap pink lemonade it seems like a pretty weak flavor. I tried it once in a mix with strawberry and raspberry at about 8% and it came through very light.

Also TFA sweet raspberry is king, but I don’t recommend going above 2%, or using it stand-alone. It goes great as a backup to other berries tho. Cap sweet strawberry (if you have it) at 4-6% plus TFA sweet raspberry at 1-2% should yield a nice strong flavor. Add some cheesecake or cookie + a cream and you’ve got a party.
