Did I think this one through correctly?
submitted about 5 years ago by [deleted]

I just switched to vaping and I now want to make my first batch of DIY. I tried to fully grasp DIY but just want to keep it simple for now, is there anything off with this recipe?

Goal: 100ml of 50/50 eliquid, 10mg nicsalt strength with a minty flavor.

  1. 50ml Nicotine salts shots (20mg, 50/50)

  2. Capella Cool Mint - 6ml (this is within recommendations for this concentrate)

  3. 19ml PG

  4. 25ml VG

Also, just how strong is the CAP Cool Mint? I'm not looking for a brain freeze, just a cool breeze. Any input highly appreciated.

Hi. Your nicotine, VG and PG math is correct. However, flavor % recommendations from flavor companies are usually too high. There are recipe sites, such as alltheflavors.com or e-Liquid-recipes.com that offer calculators as well as the possibility to look up flavors for average percentage.

https://alltheflavors.com/flavors/capella-cool-mint Here you‘ll see that CAP Cool Mint is used at an average of about 2%. I would add 2-3% to the mix. Shake and test vape it. If it needs more, add another %. You can always add more. We also recommended to make a 10ml test batch.

If you need more help or want to hangout with fellow mixers, join our Discord. Good luck!

Thank you for the links, surely they will come in handy to get a general idea of the different flavors. I might grab some cool mint and maybe melon and experiment a bit with ratios. Many thanks!

That seems like a lot of mint...maybe start with a smaller test batch and without nicotine as to not waste the good stuff ;)

Edit to add I am not familiar with this specific flavor, so that may very well be within the needed amount. Just sounds like a lot!

Yes I might try to create a nicotine free version of this beforehand! The only trouble is to measure the flavoring accurately in such small quantities.

As somebody who did some DIY like 6 years ago and then again 4 years ago and just picked back up into it again now due to PMTA and sliding back into mods that just drink juice if you decide you are going to stick with DIY please just get yourself a scale. I have mixed up a fair number of recipes I found and wanted to try over the last few days and now the hardest part is finding the flavorings in my drawer. It is so much easier than having to prep a space, keep clean pipettes or needles around, etc.

Use a diy juice calculator. It does ALL of the hard work for you!

I use a 1 ml syringe when I'm mixing 10-30ml test batches. Most people prefer a scale, but I have had good luck mixing by volume :)

I do this or count drops. One day, I'll join the 21 century and buy a scale. :)

Math looks good. You should be at 10mg/ml with that.

No idea on the cool mint though. Good luck!

I use cool mint quite a lot. 1.5 percent to 2 is good. I like it with melon and cucumber.

I’m about to make some honeydew minty vape, looking to try CAP Cool Mint at 1% to get a slight cooling effect. Will get back within today or tmr ;-)

Okay ! I’ve tried it, let me see how I can describe it best

But first my test recipe Cactus INAWERA 0.5% Cool Mint CAP 2% Cucumber TFA 1.5% Honeydew Melon CAP 4.5% Super Sweet CAP 0.5%

The Cool Mint only at 2% gives quite a cooling sensation especially on the exhale. You do taste the mint and the mint is really clean and refreshing, no bitter in anyway. More like a tiny-bit-sweet mint. At 2% the flavor is not overpowering at all, but also not too subtle as it let the Cucumber TFA and Cactus INAWERA shines through; at the same time, something muted my Honeydew Melon CAP. My advice, if you are looking to use as a single flavor, start with 3.5% or 4%.

Thank you very much! I might grab some additional flavors to experiment a bit with. I'm thinking about grabbing some aniseed concentrate too, and perhaps cinnamon. Anything "punchy" for me!

Yes by all means if you are really wanting to diy invest in a scale Bullcity and River supply or look on Amazon

I like FA peppermint (Mild Winter). I use this at 5% with about 1.5% WS23 for my mint salt juice, and definitely would recommend!
