As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

Florals arent usually what come to mind when I think of my ADV but Clouds of Buddha by Nordicflavours (lil kittybit) is fantastic. This was the first recipe using FLV Rose Essence that I had tried. Its a little out of the ordinary but feels so familiar which is probably why I mix a little bottle of this every few months.
I had actually changed purses and left a 10ml bottle (no nic) in my old purse. About 6 months later I found this bottle again and gave it a try. I'm not sure exactly how this happened but the rose blended down to a point where it no longer sat on top with the 2 rice flavors melded into something that tasted like Kiks cereal.
I'm not sure how this helps anyone but I hope it does.
This is a flavor that I should play around with more.
Y'all, I could use some help with something, please. I don’t have that many rose flavors, so I plan to try a handful of recipes that use them this week. But I only want to mix about 5 of them, and I’m struggling to narrow it down. Here are the contenders. Can you help me decide which ones I should try? Which ones would you be most interested in? Is there a recipe that should be on this list but isn’t?

Clouds of Buddha. Steamed rice with rose apples.

Clouds of Buddha
Rose Milk Tea
Layerz Pink Gin
Rose Lemonade
Delightfully Turkish
Too many rose-vanillas and it sounds like they arent very rose heavy
Might want to include one of the vanilla-rose recipes though
I would've suggested mine if you didn't have too many for the week, so I won't. I would be grateful for any feedback at any time in the future though =]
Rose Milk Tea
Layerz Pink Gin
Sounds like not trying Rose Milk Tea would be some kind of negligence.
I'm super interested in the first two but also (as I'm sure you noticed) they share a large part of the recipe that might be worth mixing up on its own and then mixing with any number of fruit flavors.

I'll bet that this would be fairly delicious on its own, but might need the flavor percentages bumped a little. Also I imagine it would make a good palate for many different fruit mixes.

Honestly imagine this is pretty tasty on its own too

I absolutely love rose. Just getting back into mixing but it’s really the only thing I’d consider my ADV.
MF rose is incredible, complex and I generally use just that at a fairly low percentage (about 1% iirc). Complex and natural tasting. I’ll sometimes round it out with a bit of TFA rose candy (can be taken to higher percentages and tastes much simpler) or a very low amount of FA Rose (although this one tends to be a bit harsh and more on the perfumey side of things).
MF rose is expensive, but for me it’s worth it as it’s really the only main flavor I work with. Mixes well with fruit (FA Fuji) and I have a commercial peach pear that it mixes shockingly well with. If you’re used to sweet it might do well with a little sweetener. It can be a touch on the harsh/throat hit side of things but honestly that’s part of why I love it.
I’d imagine it mixes well with teas, creams, vanilla and almonds or hazelnuts as well but I haven’t found too many of these that I like. Definitely mixes well with mint or menthol. It’s used extensively in Indian deserts so there’s probably room for inspiration there too. I’ve never had luck combining florals since they kinda instantly get muddy and potpourri like together but ymmv.
I tend to avoid PG and mix very high VG and find that the inherent sweetness of quality VG is just right to carry it. If you mix higher PG you may want to go lower quantity or add something that lends sweetness. Also obviously I go higher when I’m mixing for pods or mtl, but I usually vape mid 30W on NarDA and similar Rda’s, might want to go up in flavor if you’re using something airier or that is less sensitive to flavor.
Excellent accompaniment to a nice cocktail. Part of why I like it is it pairs well with lots of things but doesn’t taste like them. Something that I can pick up any time of day and have it accompany what I’m having without competing or being too similar or too contrast-y if that makes any sense.
I bought one bottle a while ago and I barely seem to be making a dent in it. If anyone really wants to try some but doesn’t want to risk it and is willing to pay shipping we might be able to work something out.
As a side note: If you like it and you enjoy violet candies I can’t recommend MF Violet highly enough either as it’s a floral violet (think Chowards or Parma Violet candies, but a little more complex and “natural” tasting) and not the vegetal violet tea that is the TFA violet.
The inw tobacco wild rose is spot on paan and indian tobacco mixture i just use it at 1% and give it a week or two
No experience whatsoever, just here for the enlightening. Makes an interesting read for the week and a great monday night watch, thanks.
Floral flavors are tough. The few I've used can be incredibly overbearing.
I've never been terribly fond of rose in food so I've stayed away from it in vape form. I do occasionally like other floral candies, and things like lychee that are inherently floral so maybe this is a good week for me to pay attention and prove my palate wrong.
Rose is such a beautiful, underutilized flavor...truly the king of florals. Unlike honeysuckle, it never wears out its welcome to my tastebuds, and unlike woodruff, it doesn't dominate other flavors it's mixed with.
FLV Rose is the only one I have...been meaning to try MF Rose, which I've heard good things about. TFA Rose Candy may have its uses, but it's not an authentic rose flavor at all.
I've got to try FLV rose essence and FA rose. FLV rose essence to me tasted like dried rose petals (the kind they cover fancy chocolates and Turkish Delights with) soaked in diluted rose water, I expected it to be a LOT more potent from my experience with FLV. I find it quite pleasant. FA rose however.. the thing is It has somewhere in the background, in the distance, the rose water flavour I am looking for but it's muddied with this unpleasant bitterness? that's difficult to overlook. There's much I cannot taste or recognize, so my experience is more often than not different than others'.
but there's this rose flavoured commercial e-liquid that I tried from a friend and I loved it, I'm hoping I'll be able to find the flavour they used in it. really looking forward to this one.
How in the ever-loving hell did you manage to fit "Betty White" in with your weekly puns?
On the surface level, rose doesn't sound like something I would go out of my way for, but I'm actually quite intrigued. Also yay, my citrus soda request is coming up soon! It feels like I asked about that just a few weeks ago...
Isn't it obvious? When I hear "Rose" I immediately think of Betty White's role as Rose Nylund in Golden Girls. Also "Betty White's" sounds an awful lot like "Bet He Writes." I didn't "manage to fit" anything, that title basically wrote itself.
Thank you for bein' a friend...
Hey, can I request mango to go on the list? I just checked and it looks like there’s only been one mango episode of Noted and that was two years ago. There must have been tons of mango flavours that have come out since then?
Vendor | Flavor | % :--|:--:|--: FA | Rose | 1 FLV | Black Tea | 1.5 FLV | Red Tea | 0.5 CAP | Super Sweet | 0.5
I'm going straight and simple Middle Eastern Rose Tea. The Recipe is still under testing, I don't recommend it until I fully refine it to a classical rose tea one. I chose FA Rose because it's the closest flavor among others to Damask Rose. FLV Black Tea gives a floral note which I believe will embrace FA Rose, Added FLV Red Tea to amend black tea and CAP sweet. Your feedback are highly appreciated.
I never tried a rose flavour. Do they taste like rose water? With rose water I have a love/hate relationship. It's so easy to be overpowering, but then there are the odd occasions when I encounter it and suddenly I love rose water again. I think a dessert at an iranian(?) restaurant had rose water and was delicious.
The taste is floral, sweet and also akin to a citrus fruit to me. That's specifically with Medicine Flower Bulgarian Rose. I find it delightful with dark chocolate as well as alone and it can provide a nice pairing to a fruit. Any time I've had rose water in desserts, it has just tasted like sugar water to me.
No-one else use INW Wild Rose?, everyone's talking about FLV but I only have INW and FA Rose.
Both seem to be fairly generic rose-water style tastes.
http://tjek.nu/r/Apb9 was my experiment with it but its still pretty intense, not bad for an occasional puff of a different flavour but I couldnt ADV it.
I *love* turkish delight, but so far I havent managed to get a rose vape that I've been blown away by, but i've also struggled to find recipes to work from.
I've tried INW Wild Rose. There's a Rose in there, but it comes along with a very citrusy vibe. Slight harshness, but managable. Pretty potent, I'd start at 0.5% and work up. First thoughts on pairings would be cocktails and beverages, also in teas. Maybe at a very low percentage to give Red Berries a punch or an extra dimension. I can't see this working in bakery or heavy creams, but haven't gone down that realm. I wouldn't go out of my way to get this concentrate, unless your a fan of florals, in which case, it can have a place in your stash.
Pippa has a recipe with a good review on ATF. Haven't tried it, missing ingredients.

hmm I thought the recipe being private would still allow the direct link to work but not make it searchable, I guess not.
I decided to work with the citrus and try to build on it

0.5% seems a huge amount to me, 0.2% was massively overpowering within the first month, my 30ml test was made on 2nd of August and its only now faded into something that i'd consider actually vapeable. The rose is still pretty dominant though.
Your probably right about those percentages. I've only had it for 2 weeks, and haven't really played with it that much. Single flavored at 1%. You can imagine. The 0.5% start sugestion was kinda aproximating to what I imaguned a good starting point. Thanks for sharing the recipe and your thoughts and experience on percentages.
I'm missing the teas in your recipe, shame not to be able to give it a shot...
I picked up that HS watermelon hoping for that rose candy taste you described it as. I’m looking for that rose water add to middle eastern and south Asian desserts. And I know at least u/Vishousness is too. I have the Flv rose essence but none of the others. Anyway, if you had to suggest something to scratch that itch, where would you start looking? The idea of trying a gang of florals is definitely intimidating to me. At least, I’m putting off trying a ton of roses until after next Monday!
Edit: and yeah that hs did not scratch that itch
i just thought about if id wanna vape rose and floral stuff a week ago... couldnt decide for it...but seeing some recipies here, esp those without rose, i feel swayed to try some of them.always fun to broaden the scope a bit ;) thanks FOTW!
@ /u/ID10-T can i assume that teas are part of this FOTW? or was that another one already? if not, id like to request tea as FOTW topic pls.
Did you know apples, pears, and roses are all in the family Rosaceae? And well...hibiscus is not, but it is also known as "Rose Mallow".... so do these facts almost want to mix and vape florals? Maybe? ^^Crickets^^
