Hey guys, does anyone know where I can find a kind of recipe all-time hall of fame? I see the weekly/monthly/yearly stuff but there are hundreds of recipes, I'm just looking for like a handful of all-time favourites because I'm not that adventurous..

I see the 'first order flavours' section with suggested recipes, are these what I'm looking for? Or are these chosen mostly because they're simple? Because I'm fine with more complex I just want the choice simple if that makes sense. I've spent like five hours studying recipes and I've entered a state of bewilderment.

I kinda feel like there's a trap in there if you look at "all time greatest"

You've gotta remember that the older stuff is, the more limitations were in place on what could be done with a recipe. You go back to 2016 and the most popular atomizers were what? the Kangertech Subtank mini and the Smok TFV4. Go back a year further and you're looking at CE4s and the Kanger Protank 3.

Beyond that, the marketplace for flavors has expanded a ton in the last couple years.

I'm not suggesting you should be constantly chasing innovation and new flavors if that's not your prerogative, but you may wish to keep a narrower focus than best of all time. I'd maybe keep my search limited to some arbitrary cut off like 2017 and newer. You might also want to be cognizant of landmines insofar as flavors that have been reformulated or discontinued, doesn't much matter how great a recipe was that uses INW Lime or Holy Vanilla if you can't get the version of the flavor that they used in the original recipe.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind

also keep in mind that older recipes tend to have a higher overall percentage of flavor, which may not translate as well to newer devices.

Is there a vanilla that's close to holy vanilla for a substitution

to the best of my knowledge, no. The biggest issue is that whatever was giving it the characteristic darker/deeper less floral vanilla notes has been discontinued.

this might be helpful

I've read in the notes on ELR that Wonder Flavors Vanilla Cream Extra is a comparable sub for DIYFS Holy Vanilla... I luckily have some of the old HV (ordered 2 by accident 😊) and I also have VCE so I'm gonna have to do some SFT to see for myself...

And links to the contest threads at the bottom of that page.

Thanks, the best of year and competition links are very helpful, I am loving this drama over u/ID10-T winning the 2019 competition. Haha, he seems pleased..

If only he would release a good recipe so I can do it again ;)

Haha, sounds like it's debatable whether he even released the one he was entered for!

Foment's right. Plus - it's all totally subjective. I don't like the 4 biggest recipes on ATF, but they've been mixed and liked by many. You just need to find your niche.
